    Um, never said that they should have gone to jail or that it was the pilots that should have done this. Also not talking about double checking the fuel level after each flight. It was a new gauge and there were no steps taken to verify that it was working correctly. A dipstick or just checking the volume of gas loaded vs. what the gauge showed would have tipped them off.     I read on a pilot's forum a bit about this. The opinion there was that there should have been some additional fuel level checks (dipstick being one of them) that would have shown that something was amiss. Still the focus of the Italian prosecution was that it would have been better to try to glide the plane over 4 miles of densly populated Palermo after their original location was 20 nm away at 4k ASL.     I don't think the Utah analogy is very good. They have some pretty stupid liquor laws in the Carolinas for about the same reason. It wouldn't keep me from wanting to move there and I reserve the right to bitch about it and to actively try to get the law changed for the betterment of mankind. Regardless of where I moved to I wounldn't sit down if I felt something about a culture wasn't right. How about the caste system in India? It's STILL part of the culture in many places.     Similar story here except it was broken ribs and my back. Was doing a little back country and needed to land a jump and turn down a trail. Was too far back on the skis and went over the side of the train. Started wearing a helmet, wrist guards, and various pads when I switched to snowboarding.
