Hi 377 You mentioned: Sailshaw is certain that Peterson is DBC. The FBI is just as certain that he isn't. -------------------------------------------------------------- My answer is: The FBI has fell for the "perfect alibi" that Sheridan came up with and Blevins believes too. The FBI also has what they think is DB Cooper DNA from the "tie" but they are not sure it really is BD Cooper DNA. I believe Sheridan was planning the NORJACK ten years before the actual caper when living at my house for a month. Part of his plan would certainly be the "perfect alibi" and as far away from the scene of the crime as possible (Nepal). That way the FBI would have to go to great effort to come and see him and check out his story. Sheridan is a very smart guy and planned his caper so well as to fool the FBI for all these years. His mantra when at my place was "there is got to be a way to beat the system". That is also in one of the four letters "The system that beats the system". The DNA under the stamps/envelope flaps of the four letters to the newspapers will give the FBI the big break in the case they need to finally solve the case. Truly the Smoking Gun that will blow the case wide open after all these years. What is taking them so long to get the DNA from the letters? Could it be the FBI thinks they will look bad for not have looked at this evidence sooner? I think the FBI would be so interested in solving the only hijacking case they haven't solved that any reasonable evidence would be looked into. Bob Sailshaw sailshaw@aol.com

Hi 377 You mention Sheridan was a smoke jumper (I think it has been mentioned he worked for the USFS as a jumper for three years). Sheridan told me a lot about his USFS work and how he was not afraid to jump into the forests except for jumping onto a clif. He did not worry about water or tree landings. He could walk out of any place he jumped and was really good at pathfinding and surviving. Some where in the past posts it was mentioned Sheridan did a demonstration jump in a suit (much the same as DB Cooper) and it was before Norjack when he was possibly in the Boeing Skydiving Club. Does anyone remember the suit description (and shoes) he used in the demonstration jump? Also, Has anyone heard if the FBI has made any progress on getting the DNA from the four letters (stamps/envelope flaps) sent to the papers just after Norjack? When compared with Sheridan, I believe they will find a match and will be well on their way to solving the crime. This is truly the "smoking gun" in the case and will blow it wide open. Thanks, sailshaw@aol.com

Blevins: You may be too busy in He said she said to answer my posted question or You really did not read Sheridan's Book!!! ----------------------------------------------------------------- The question again to you is: When you say the book has 826 pages: My question is "What was in the pages beyond the 339 pages of Part I that I read? Also, where did you find the long version (826 pages) of Sheridan's Book? Was the second part called Part II? What was part II about? Bob Sailshaw sailshaw@aol.com
-
Blevens You say: "Also found the book. It's a novel, and its premise is a protest of the Vietnam War. All 826 pages of it." ------------------------------------------------------------------ My question is "What was in the 487 pages beyond the 339 pages of Part I that I read"? Also, where did you find the long version (826 pages) of Sheridan's book? Was the second part called Part II? Bob Sailshaw sailshaw@aol.com

Blevins You say: "If you believe the bio, I think you can toss him out as a suspect." --------------------------------------------------------------- That is his perfect alibi that he was in Nepal and could not have done the DB Caper. That is why getting the DNA from the stamps/envelope flaps of the four letters to the newspapers and comparing with what the FBI has on file for Sheridan and if it is a match, that shows he was at the scene of the crime at the time of the caper and not in Nepal. He could have taken a flight to Portland and back to Nepal using a passport replacement (copy) so the trip would not show on his normal passport. We need the FBI to compare the DNA from the four letters with Sheridan's. Bob Sailshaw sailshaw@aol.com

To MeyerLouie and Robert Blevins The title to Sheridan's Book is: "The Idiot's Frightful Laughter" Snowmman knows how to get a copy and has researched Sheridan in the past. Bob Sailshaw sailshaw@aol.com
-
Jo: You say " Bob do you ACTUALLY believe what you just wrote above? Have you read Sheridan's Book?" ----------------------------------------------------------------- Yes, I know that it came to me as I was sleeping and is a possible answer as to what the title of Sheridan's book really ment. Snowmman has a different idea about the title, that it was contained in a book written in French. Could this be the connection to the Dan Cooper funny book also in French and that Sheridan could understand French? On reading Sheridan's book, the answer is yes and many times as it has information about Sheridan and what he did. I have only read Part I (339 pages) and I don't think Part II is done or out yet but suspect it will describe how the DB Caper was done. Bob Sailshaw sailshaw@aol.com

Robert99 You say "As I understand it, Galen Cook supports Sailshaw's renter (Peterson?) as being the hijacker. If I have translated correctly, this means that Cook believes the hijacker survived the jump and disagrees with Tosaw." Yes, Sheridan is alive and well in California and survived the jump. I have been giving some thought (in my sleep and that is dangerous) about why Sheridan titled his book "The Idiot's Frightfull Laughter" My conclusion is that Sheridan even thought of himself as an Idiot for doing the Caper and during the jump he remembers laughing all the way to the ground but it was Frightfull due to the danger of a night jump into bad weather and not too certain about the landing spot. Galen has been talking with the Seattle FBI and he thinks they believe that the four letters to the newspapers were written by DB Cooper due to the clues in decoded letters that no one but BD would have known. If the FBI obtains the DNA from the letters/stamps (especially letter #3) and it matches what they have on file for Sheridan. I believe the case will finally be solved and the FBI will get their man. I believe this is a hot topic within the Seattle FBI and would not be surprised that letter #3 is presently in the Quantico, VA DNA lab. This will blow Farflung's mind as he did not think of it himself. 73's and have another banana OM! Bob Sailshaw sailshaw@aol.com
-
Farflung: You are wrong again when you say: "A rational thinker would compare the DNA from the envelope or stamps to the DNA on the tie first, but you wisely want to compare it to Sheridan…..weird." I say: The DNA on the tie and tie clasp are not know to be from DB Cooper and could have been from his girl friend that dressed him the morning of the caper. To compare the DNA from the stamps/envelope flaps with Sheridan Peterson would show that Sheridan was not in Nepal as his perfect alibi indicated. Caught in this lie to the FBI he could be sent to jail for the rest of his life or bargain with to get him to confess to the DB Cooper crime and solve this old puzzler. So, have some more bananas and climb back into your tree. Here I go trying to talk to a dumb monkey again Bob Sailshaw sailshaw@aol.com
-
Farflung: You have really missed your pills and have gone off on a toot like KOSS. You say: "Yet sailshaw remains baffled, in spite of my best effort, which hails far beyond anything sailshaw has ever contributed or offered to this thread (I’ll assume all others as well)." OK Farflung, I have offered a quick solution to the DB Cooper Case (Compare the DNA under the Stamps/Envelope with that of Sheridan). That would blow the case wide open after 40 years of nothing but stumbling over the trivia that led nowhere. So, I have offered a quick solution. Have you offered a solution? No, but some good laughs and now at yourself. Bob Sailshaw sailshaw@aol.com
-
Farflung: Tell them to bring you your pills as your thinking is not as good as it used to be. You say: "I have attached a graphic, which holds an eerie similarity to the previous one which illustrates just what was being communicated AND BY WHOM". Look at your information it says clip on bow tie in the DB Decoded. You some how add the clip on to the regular black tie that DB left on the plane. You are a little mixed-up but that is OK as we are all getting a little older. All I said was add the black tie to the list of things mentioned in the DB Decoded (not a clip on or clip on bow tie). However, read what I say as I try to say it very clearly and it needs to be read clearly. Thanks again, Bob Sailshaw
-
Far flung: I am sure you can prove beyond a doubt that Black is White. Sorry, I can only offer what I know and think. By the way, I mentioned adding the black tie to the list but, you added the clip-on to the black tie and started a violation of your own thinking rules. So, leave off the clip-on but add just the black tie. Next, what caught my eye when the four letters were first made public was letter three where DB addled just before his signature "system to beat the system". That was the mantra that I heard over and over during the month that Sheridan lived at my home. He even said that the two of us have enough University degrees to be able to figure out a system to beat the system. That was when I realized that the letters were valid and from Sheridan and he was DB Cooper. Also, he did not pay his rent and that is why I asked him to leave. In an email from Sheridan, he now claims that he never stayed at my home, never knew me, or ever never paid his rent. Why would he lie about it. Possibly to distance himself from me as I know too much about him. Just keep the pressure on the FBI to compare the DNA under the stamps/envelope flaps with Sheridan Peterson's DNA. Bob Sailshaw sailshaw@aol.com

This is a reply to smoking99, farflung, mrshutter45, guru312, and georger. Thanks guys for piling on and trying to discredit an honest attempt to solve the DB Cooper case. This shows that you have nothing to do and nothing to contribute to solving the case. What a waist of time but worth a few laughs. Why, well it was not invented here! is about all that can be said. At times all of you have contributed smart thinking to solving the case. What has happened, run out of gas or you didn't think of my solution so it must be laughed at. Well, with some luck the FBI will get moving and look at the DNA from the envelopes/stamps and solve the case. If that happens, I will get the last laugh. Bos Sailshaw sailshaw@aol.com
-
Robbert99 You say "Why don't you provide the $1,000 for the DNA testing" Robert that is a good question and I would gladly give the money to get the DNA and solve the case. I don't think that would move the FBI as they are stuck on STOP due to what ever their reason. However, with everyone pushing for the FBI to move forward we might get them off of the stop position. Galen Cook is going to speak with the Settle FBI Office shortly and possibly he can get them moving. Thanks for the suggestion, Bob Sailshaw sailshaw@aol.com

Mrshutter45 you say: "the letter in question right now is the one where the guy linked the clippings used in the letter to things that happened with the hijacking, Bourbon ad, Raleigh Cigarettes , Playboy magazine cover and so on." I would add the black tie to the list as found in DB Cooper Decoded. All of these things were not known to the public until after the four letters were sent to the newspapers. This hints at the letters being valid DB Cooper letters and not just something from a crank. This really makes it important that the FBI get the DNA from under the envelope flaps/stamps as this is the last remaining evidence the FBI has and not looked into. If there is a match with the DNA on file for Sheridan Peterson, that places him at the scene of the crime and not in Nepal as his perfect alibi indicated. Caught in a lie to the FBI could put him in jail for the rest of his life as he is 86 at this time. The jail time could be used to get a confession in the DB Cooper case. This DNA is the "Smoking Gun" to solving the case and we hope the FBI gets going on obtaining the DNA as it will blow the case wide open. The cost of obtaining the DNA would be less than $1,000 and would solve this perfect crime finally after 40 years. Bob Sailshaw sailshaw@aol.com

BruceSmith: Great to have you back and know all is well with you. We were thinking that you may have been in the hospital or worse!!! Things are starting to move to get the FBI to obtain DNA from the four envelopes/stamps of the letters sent after the Norjack to the news papers. Galen Cook has mentioned that he will be talking with the Seattle office of the FBI to get it moving. As we have discussed, that DNA when matched with Sheridan Peterson will be the "Smoking Gun" that blows this case wide open and destroys Sheridan's perfect alibi that he was in Nepal at the time of Norjack. The DNA off the envelopes/stamps is the only remaining evidence that the FBI has yet to investigate. So, we are hoping to get the FBI moving on it. Welcome back Bruce, Bob Sailshaw sailshaw@aol.com

To add to sailshaw post, the following is from Galen Cook: ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Bob: I chatted with Bruce Smith a while back and he reminded me to get ahold of you. This will be fairly short, but I wanted to tell you that your request to get DNA from the envelope seals on the Cooper letters is something I've been pushing for years. The FBI showed me the letter that Cooper sent to Portland. It has a seal on the back with two postage stamps on the front. A good bet that some DNA could be acquired. Also, I'm working with the police chief in British Columbia to try and obtain the Cooper letter that was sent to the Vancouver, BC newspaper. The other two letters were sent to the Reno newspaper, and I believe they were picked-up by the FBI and sent to Virginia back in 1971. No fingerprints on any of them, but probably plenty of DNA. You are on the right track, Sailshaw. The FBI has been helpful in some ways, but they need prodding. Galen Cook ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- So, I will try to keep the pressure on the FBI to test the DNA under the four stamps/envelope flaps for comparison with Sheridan's DNA. The cost can't be very much as the add on TV shows a van that will test for your DNA for less than $ 400.00. The van says "Who's your Daddy" so you can compare your DNA with who ever. So, who is your DB Cooper? Bob Sailshaw sailshaw@aol.com

Reply to "Skyjack 71" Jo: I have tried e-mail and leaving phone message for Bruce Smith. No results so far an that worries me as Bruce and I were to meet with my expert DNA worker in the Univ. of Wash. DNA research lab. that I just met during my Russian Alum. trip from Moscow to Saint Petersburg. I had plenty of time to talk with her (the expert) about the possibility of how easy would it be to get the DNA from under the stamps/envelope flaps of the four letters sent to the new papers following the DB Caper. Bruce was to cover the same information and ask anything further when we were to meet with her. My attempts to contact Bruce have had no success. This worries me greatly as Bruce is very active in responding to my e-mails and phone calls normally. I fear he has had some kind of heart attack and is in the Hospital or even worse. Mark (377) have you heard anything? The DNA expert was willing to go on the record to explain why the DNA covered by stamps or envelope flaps would still be good and easy to investigate. We discussed how this is possibly the only real evidence that the FBI has that they have yet to look into. I talked with the Lawyer (Galen Cook) looking into the DB Cooper case and he says I am on the right track and to keep after the FBI and he will be talking with Agent Eng in Seattle to help push forward the investigation of the DNA under the stamps/envelope flaps. He mentioned the FBI is starting to give some credence to the four letters following the DB Cooper Decoded U-Tube article that found where the words were sniped from the two Playboy magazines to make up the four letters. There was information in the decoding that showed that the writer of the letters knew things about the case that were not known to the public at the time the letters were written. Such as the existence of the clip on black tie etc... My belief is that Sheridan Peterson is DB and wrote the four letters to show he made the jump and survived. His "perfect alibi" was that he was in Nepal at the time of the caper, so he could not have done it and the FBI bought Sheridan's story. However, the "smoking gun" is the DNA still on the envelopes. When the FBI compares the envelope DNA with that they already have of Sheridan's, the case is blown wide open and solved after all these years. Agent Eng will become a real hero in the FBI for solving the case? Have the FBI moved to examine the envelopes yet? Will Cook be able to talk Agent Eng into getting the DNA evidence and comparing it with Sheridan? Meanwhile, where are you Bruce Smith? We hope you are getting well and can let us know soon. You should be really happy when this case is finally solved. Go Go Go FBI and get that DNA Bob Sailshaw sailshaw@aol.com

Blevins: Says": "First, if Cooper was a regular jumper at Issaquah, it's very possible someone from that place would have recognized him from the sketch. And didn't the FBI question people from there? Second, if he had tossed out the X reserve, where is it now? Absolutely nothing has been found except the placard, the Tena Bar money, and the Amboy chute. (Two of three linked to hijacker) Sure it's possible it hung in a tree, or just hasn't been found. But since neither has a body, the remainder of the money, or the other chute been found....as time goes by the odds lean toward a safe landing and maybe a burial of the chute(s)." Blevins you are right and why does Cossey claim he never saw or knew Sheridan in my phone call with Cossey? Cossey also claims ownership of the two "Back Chutes" when we know Hayden was the owner. I think Cossey is trying to cover for Sheridan who he must have known. Just a little more of the strangeness in the DB Cooper case. Your second thought is where is it (the chute with the X) now? It would have fallen fast and possibly buried in leaves or forest cover and possibly is still in some trees. It would be hard to spot due to its small size and color. J. T. may find it in one of his searches or has possibly stepped on it and did not notice it. However, it is believed DB took it from the plane but he would not have been able to use it. I like the thought that he laughed and threw it from the plane. The body has not been found. Because Sheridan is still alive and living in California. The jump was easy for a guy with his skills and daring. Bob Sailshaw sailshaw@aol.com

377 Says: "Peterson rented a room from Sailshaw in the 60s during which time he allegedly pumped Sailshaw (a Boeing engineer working in 737 door stairs) asking him for info on the 727 stairs. Sailshaw was working on a different plane and diodnt have the answers. Later Peterson gets a job at Boeing in tech documents section." My comment is first 377 thanks for correcting my Paracommander error. I was in a hurry and did not check my notes. Next, I would like the record to show that Sheridan when at my house for one month, and ten years before the DB Caper, discussed the new 727 Boeing plane that we had seen in Avation Week. Later in my Boeing career I did test the 737 Aft Airstairs but at the time Sheridan was at my place he was very interested in what I knew about the 727 that was about ready for first flight. When he found out that I knew nothing (other than the Avation Week article), Sheridan was not interested in any of my other Boeing work. I believe he was focused on the possibility of jumping from the 727 Aft Airstairs and was interested in if it was possible. Now that was ten years in advance of the DB Cooper Caper which would indicate how far in advance his planning was and probably why he was so successful. Bob Sailshaw sailshaw@aol.com
-
MrShutter45 Says: "what still bothers me with the chutes is why did he take the reserve with the X on it? how did he fail to notice or did he toss it?" My take is that Sheridan had seen the reserve with the X on it many times at Issaquah Sky Sports where he obtained his Instructor Certification and did the Boeing Skydiving Club activity. He probably laughed and tossed it as it was totally un-usefull. Bob Sailshaw sailshaw@aol.com

Mr Shuter45 says: "the bad things about KC is the color of his eyes, his dome shaped head that would be easily noticed with a hair piece and his size." There are several things that rule out KC including his eyes. 1) He is to short at 5ft 8in - DB was 6ft 1in 2) Wrong color (white) of skin - DB had olive complexion 3) KC had blue eyes - DB had brown Something else needs to be discussed is the choice of parachute. The two back parachutes were both rounds and just alike according to Haden the actual owner of the two chutes. One chute was packed in a NB-8 carrier and the other in a Paracomander carrier. DB looked the chutes over very completely even to look for the packing card and chuckled when he saw Cossey was the packer per Tina. So, the only difference between the two was the carrier. With the NB-8, DB could open and look for an electronic locator and repack it. However, with the Paracomander, the fit would have been too tight to search it and repack on the plane. Therefore, DB knew the NB-8 well (as he put it on like he did it every day) and was sure it had no locator. That is why he picked that chute. DB was a very experienced skydiver and knew what he was doing. The hints given in the Playboy mag. as explained by Di Ji in the four Cooper Letters "DB Cooper Decoded" point to who DB was and had things reveled that the public did not know at the time the letters were sent. Such as the clip-on black tie, cocktail glass, and etc... This makes the DNA under the Stamps/envelope flaps the "Smoking Gun" and when compared with the DNA on file from Sheridan Peterson, the case will be blown open and finally solved. Why are the FBI so slow to obtain the only remaining evidence just under the stamps/envelope flaps? They must not believe the four letters were from DB, or they can't get around to doing it, Can't be cost as the costs would be less than $1,000 according to my UofW DNA expert. So, FBI we challenge you to go for it and finally solve the case. Bob Sailshaw sailshaw@aol.com
-
MARK 377 You say "The FBI seems VERY confident that they have Cooper's partial DNA. Sheridan Peterson was a viable suspect until they ruled him out with a DNA swab. I wonder if the FBI does have the cig butts and got their DNA from the butts not the tie. That would make them justifiably confident that it was Cooper's DNA. The "missing" cig butt story always sounded a little suspicious to me." The DNA that the FBI thinks is DB's from the tie is probably from the person that helped him put on his tie the morning of the caper. They (or she) would have placed the tie bar in their mouth while putting the tie on and then finally placing the tie bar with the non DB Cooper DNA on the tie. So, the FBI could have been looking for the wrong DNA and not actually have Cooper's. By testing the four letters for DNS under the stamps/envelopes the FBI would have the DNA of the person sending the letters and if it is a match with Sheridan Peterson, then the FBI knows that Sheridan was in Portland (scene of the crime) and not in Nepal where he told them he was for his perfect alibi. There were hints in the four letters that only DB Cooper would have known so I think the FBI can really give more belief in the four letters and that they are not just crank letters. Bob Sailshaw sailshaw@aol.com
-
Mrshutter45: The costs are less than $1000 according to my expert on DNA at the UofW that I talked to on my Russian trip. That would also complete the FBI's investigation of the four letters and I believe expose Sheridan as being DB Cooper. His perfect alibi would be blown and the FBI could solve their only unsolved crime very quickly. Sheridan was very smart but could not have known in advance that DNA would be used to solve the crime. The envelopes/stamps on the four letters may be the last evidence that the FBI has to look at. Bob Sailshaw Sailshaw@aol.com
-
GEORGER: You say: "The FBI is more than capable to conduct these tests and I would tend to trust their results should they do the required tests/analysis." My question to you and the Citizen Sleuth Team is" why haven't the FBI done the obvious and obtained the DNA from the envelopes/stamps of the four letters?" I just returned from a Russian UofW cruise and on the cruise I was able to talk with an expert in DNA who says that the envelopes/stamps would provide a very good source for DNA of the person mailing the four letters. I am going to have the expert and Bruce Smith get together for lunch with me shortly. Bruce can then report what the expert says. DB could have wiped the fingerprints away but would not have thought about DNA as it was not used in those days to solve cases. This opertunity to get the old but undisturbed DNA from the four letters should not be overlooked and I hope the Citizen Sleuth Team can get the FBI to take advantage of this last piece of evidence available in the DB Cooper case. Bob Sailshaw sailshaw@aol.com
