Which makes you more safe: A restraining order, or a gun?
devildog replied to JohnRich's topic in Speakers Corner
If you're at home, it wouldn't matter if that corpse was a stranger or an ex. Still in a place that he doesn't belong. Well, I'm glad that is so black and white for you - now prove it in court! You can't shoot just anyone in your home. A restraining order will go a long way in showing that the corpse on the floor shouldn't have been caught dead there! Generally speaking, in Florida you pretty much can. If the person has forcibly enters or intrudes your home, the law automatically assumes the perp will kill / cause bodily harm and you're allowed to shoot. Furthermore, in FL, you aren't required to retreat first. You stop breathing for a few minutes and everyone jumps to conclusions. -
A Refreshing new Billboard seen in Obama country
devildog replied to JohnRich's topic in Speakers Corner
At least they haven't cried that it's "racism". Yet. That will come when their search for a bureaucratic excuse to remove it fails. I saw a tv report on it where the racism card was played by a number of the people interviewed. I'll see if I can dig it up You stop breathing for a few minutes and everyone jumps to conclusions. -
My guess would be that even if they are legitimately not interested / jealous in your jumping activities, talking about it makes them feel like they are the odd one(s) out. No one likes that, no matter what the topic, because they can't relate to it. On one hand you don't want to badger them over the head, but on the other, they need not to be hypersensitive about it all as well. Ignoring never works. If they're being blatantly resentful, I'd just call them out (nicely). Real friends will work to resolve differences. Fake ones won't, and in the end, you're better off. /my .02 You stop breathing for a few minutes and everyone jumps to conclusions.

Just wow. Some crazy ideas in that holy book. I met an atheist once that was convinced owls were not birds because, "they look nothing like them" (I kid you not.) I suppose I should extrapolate from that encounter all atheists are morons, no? I mean, that's a pretty stupid belief to cling to. As for your quote and comment, are you suggesting it is not admirable to die in order to save a friend? Because the way I read your last bit, you think that's a pretty crazy idea. Maybe you could explain that notion to one person I know who would not be here today if his friend hadn't died for him (by jumping on a grenade). I'm sure he'd like to know what a moron you think his buddy was. You stop breathing for a few minutes and everyone jumps to conclusions.

Millions of people have been killed by Atheists. Stalin rounded up and slaughtered people based on the answer of "Do you believe in God?" (going door to door) and those that answered "Yes" were either shot or sent to Siberia (naked). While some may attempt to spin it as "Not in the name of Atheism" the wholesale slaughter to these people was entirely done because certain people held religious beliefs and those doing the killing did not like those beliefs. With such examples (not even getting into Mao, Polpot and friends), it's hard to take seriously the "We have the moral high ground" argument. Obama: Americans must pay fair share to cut deficit
devildog replied to Belgian_Draft's topic in Speakers Corner
http://www.commondreams.org/view/2011/09/18-4 That's nothing I'd be proud of (even if true) and it's scary that people both believe it and get that hyped about it. You stop breathing for a few minutes and everyone jumps to conclusions. -
So what? Christian apologists for immoral acts abound. There were Christians running the Inquisition. There were Christians helping Nazis escape to S. America following WWII. I don't see Christians supporting the death penalty as any better. The question isn't what people (right or wrong) have done with scripture. The question is, what does the Bible say concerning a subject? What is the principal (if any) that can be derived? Does it apply to us or not? That is done through a systematic approach. Pull from "all" of scripture concerning something to derive meaning (e.g. what the Bible says concerning capital punishment)....along with historical/grammatical interpretation. Its hard to say the Bible is 100% against capital punishment. Overall, it certainly seems to okay it in various circumstances, even in the NT (Romans 13:4 For he is God's servant to do you good. But if you do wrong, be afraid, for he does not bear the sword for nothing. He is God's servant, an agent of wrath to bring punishment on the wrongdoer. ) You stop breathing for a few minutes and everyone jumps to conclusions.

Walgreens Employee Fired for Use of Concealed Weapon
devildog replied to nbblood's topic in Speakers Corner
5-10 ft....yes, quite a long-range shot, no? Even I could hit that and I'm very near-sighted. How about you? If you can't hit a target, moving or not, from 5-10 ft away, you have no business being within 5-10 ft of a weapon. What he did was no different than firing randomly for all the good it did. Even random shots would have scared the perps away. I don't think supporters of the right to bear arms should look to this incident as being favorable to their cause. Average gunfight is less than 10 feet and most rounds miss. Moving target + lots of adrenaline + lack of real combat training makes for lots of stray bullets. Oldest Fossils on Earth Claim to be Discovered

Only because it would challenge something he's emotionally involved in. Anything - as far as science is concerned - that can't be tested at all, has no weight. It may or may not be true, but it holds no more (or less) water than anything I could dream up, no matter how outlandish. There is such a thing as plausability, as well as mathematical integrity. Much that has turned out to be valid is counterintuitive, but mathematically sound. Gas Dynamics is a case in point. If someone is given to accepting fundamentals on the basis of emotional appeal their stance may be routinely dismissed, since there is no correlation between their model and reality. The accuracy, or lack thereof, of their claims is a matter of happenstance. BSBD, Winsor I can create all sorts of fantasy that is mathematically sound. If we can't test it, observe it, get results to repeat, it's useless to science. Gas Dynamics doesn't help your point. It's something we can study and poke around in. Multi-Universe theory is 100% wish & speculation at this point. Maybe there are more out there. Maybe not. But the idea has as much credibility as me saying 5000 years ago, an army of giant, invisible grilled cheese sandwiches instantly appeared on the moon, danced the hula, and left without a trace. The Middle Class Should Be Furious, Another Millionaire Says

I see your point. We should all be doing as the left wing does and demonize them as they deserve. They are all evil and wicked, and don't deserve anything. And speaking of rose colored glasses, it must be nice to live in a world where you think taxing (even at 100%) would solve anything. no kidding - so what the hell was that hour of the bull yesterday? Maybe the bears were taking a brief nap after feasting for a few days. They still seem hungry and mad. It was a reaction to the announcement that interest rates being kept the same for 2 years. Then today, people sold their brief winnings, and everyone else realized the economy is still going to be slow, and spending is still out of control, and there was no reason to be excited about the near future. When the wife is buying filet mignon on a hamburger salary, he's absolutely right to say it. What kind of a husband begrudges his family good food? A responsible one - and hamburger is good food, if not as tasty as filet (or White House wagyu beef). Ground beef can have up to 30% saturated fat. Husband should work harder instead of trying to kill his family. Plenty of carbs and chicken are both healthier and cheaper. You stop breathing for a few minutes and everyone jumps to conclusions.

Such things usually end down, not up. We're not that far from being under 10k, which will make people in general panicky, I wager, as that's one of those magic numbers. OMG! We dipped under 10k! Sell! You stop breathing for a few minutes and everyone jumps to conclusions.

Which apparently, according to you, is to waste money. Says the man who has only voted and been fooled by the party of fiscal conservatism and family values for....how long is it now???? I want them to stop wasting money.. I also want people who do business in this country to PAY for that priveledge. But those of you who vote for such brilliant businessmen as George Bush.. seem to not be doing so good on that front. If you know who I vote for, you should know for how long as well. Or does your omniscience have limits? You stop breathing for a few minutes and everyone jumps to conclusions.

This is the equivalent of the rapist saying, "Go along with it or I'll turn this rape into a murder." no it is not the same. The Jobs were sent overseas for one reason and one resaon alone.. PROFIT at any cost.. the more profit the better. The people you worship can couch it in any terms they wish but the bottom line id greed over patriotism... whats good for Americans... or good for the country. If you keep handing EVERYTHING to these anti-American asswhipes you may as well burn all the American flags.. and start flying the company colors of your favorite corporation. Arent you guys the ones who are so against globilization and the UN??? I thought the right wing was supposed to be about patriotism, mom and apple pie... OOOPS another phalacy. So it's patriotic now to waste money. Well, that clears a few things up were you are coming from. You stop breathing for a few minutes and everyone jumps to conclusions.
