Emergency exit for first hop and pop
loch1957 replied to scottd818's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I saw the altitude and said shoot thats no biggie. Static Line training has a few advantages. Now jumping from 13,500 seems a lot spookier. Avoiding danger is no safer in the long run than outright exposure. Life is either a daring adventure, or nothing.” -

Do Good Skydiving Schools Have Fatalities

I paraphrased that, wasn't quite way he said it. He was trying to tell me to be positive. He knew about my crash and he knew I was nervous as hell. I was almost to point that I thought ok somethings bad is going to happen, but of course it didn't. But it might next time,, but I will be ready,,,,,,,,,,,scared as hell but ill do what i was trained to do. thanks popsjumper Avoiding danger is no safer in the long run than outright exposure. Do Good Skydiving Schools Have Fatalities

You got a bunch of answers from highly experienced jumpers, now you can have mine,,,5 jumps. I had a very unsettling landing on my first jump. I honestly considered once was enough, damn instructor should told me this or that. After couple weeks of being a wimp i figured out he told me everything, it was I who didn't implement what I was told. When I found my new DZ home I asked to retake the ground class, not because first instructor was bad but I wanted it. Simple fact is, if you get hurt its likely your fault not the instructor. If you don't understand something then ask, no ones going to laugh. I would bet instructor have a lot more respect if you said i need bit more explanation than just faking it. Matt Searby is my instructor, one most important things he said was if you expect bad stuff to happen, it likely will. This is supposed to be fun, go learn jump smile then jump again. Wow, we had a really safe year

I only have a handful of jumps so pardon my stupidity. Is there any correlation to accidents between experienced jumpers and newbies like me? I mean it seems almost all the accidents that ended in death were very experienced jumpers, or am I missing something. Avoiding danger is no safer in the long run than outright exposure. My insurance will pay if I die in skydiving. I just thought was funny, if both my chutes fail a job wont be helpfull. Avoiding danger is no safer in the long run than outright exposure. Life is either a daring adventure, or nothing.”

My boss found out today I have been in his words"flinging myself from planes". Spent ten minutes telling me how dangerous it is. I told him I have a splint on my finger from tearing a tendon, but was from a safe sport, horse back riding. Sometimes girls don't want to be ridden and no amount of cookies or oats will help. Any way he told me and he was sincere, that if something happened and my parachute didn't open, he wasn't holding my job open. I told jim that was ok, I understood. I kinda doubt that a job will be needed if my chute doesn't open. Avoiding danger is no safer in the long run than outright exposure. Life is either a daring adventure, or nothing.”

You guys and gals are a trip. Thanks for being friendly and open. Makes me feel not quite as stupid as my friends and family seem to think. My only regret is I waited till I was 50 to try it. Pilfy its kinda odd, the jump doesn't scare me at all. But I'm nervous as heck on ride up. But I'm not quitting. Two more jumps and no more static line, Pulling my own chute with no instructor with me is a tad spooky. But Matt wont let me jump if I'm not ready. So I'm ready. You all know the feeling, I tried explain it to people. I just gave up, not sure a jump can be described. I was scared to death on way up, honestly thought about backing out. But second the door opened I was hooked. Avoiding danger is no safer in the long run than outright exposure. Life is either a daring adventure, or nothing.”

Well I glad I'm not only one got sucked in so easy. I just intended to make one jump to prove I could. Avoiding danger is no safer in the long run than outright exposure. Life is either a daring adventure, or nothing.”

I was curious. At what jump did you decide to keep this hobby of jumping? And after how many did you start looking for a rig? Avoiding danger is no safer in the long run than outright exposure. Life is either a daring adventure, or nothing.”

I made my second jump here on Saturday the 5th. The people are great. My instructor Matt was patient and competent. They make you feel at home even though I'm only a student.I haven't been to but two drop zones, but the rest have a high mark to meet.

OK I got through jump 3, even had a nice soft landing. Guys at sky dive experience are great, its close to me. My instructor Matt was great, he helped lot with me being nervous after my last landing. Two more jumps in two weeks weather permitting. Thanks to folks here too, your advice and criticism are always welcome. Avoiding danger is no safer in the long run than outright exposure. Ok today is a great day. Got up this morning and Weighed and I'm 249, hah!!!! Took me a year but its hard to lose 103 lbs. And I been smoke free two months. My book is also finished. Nothing is going to go bad today, i can feel it. Avoiding danger is no safer in the long run than outright exposure. Life is either a daring adventure, or nothing.”

LOL not creepy. I just stop on side of road on my way if I see a canopy. I don't sit in parking lot in a black SUV with tinted windows all day. Avoiding danger is no safer in the long run than outright exposure. Life is either a daring adventure, or nothing.”

OK its a lie but I chose to wait till I'm under 250 to jump anymore. I really suck at waiting too !!!! I bet people at sky dive Dallas think I'm a nut, i just park and watch others jump on my way home. Avoiding danger is no safer in the long run than outright exposure. OK I'm glad you cleared that up because I was confused. Avoiding danger is no safer in the long run than outright exposure. Life is either a daring adventure, or nothing.”

I'm off Wednesday I'll call around. I honestly don't mind buying a rig, but I don't know what to buy. I need an instructor willing to help me, at least one willing to sit and help me figure out what I need. And be willing to teach me once I buy it. My weekends are my biggest problem. I don't get a two day weekend, they are split, i get Sundays and Wednesdays off.. thats reason for a close drop zone. Even the one in Lexington is hard. I get off at 8 on Saturday and have to be back to work at 6 on Monday, kinda a PITA. As for losing weight I am still going down, it was 340 lbs I'm a tad over 260 now, I lost for one reason, to jump. Problem with those is they have 230 weight limit. I know theres jumpers heavier than me, they learned somewhere. Avoiding danger is no safer in the long run than outright exposure. Life is either a daring adventure, or nothing.”

OK I have a question. I just did my first jump at Texas Skydive Center in Lexington. I like the people and my instructors, however. Thats a 5 hour trip one way. I've looked on the web but most have weight restrictions. I'm 6'5 and 260, I'm a big boy. Do any of you know a place close to Dallas where I can complete my AFF ? I'm more than willing to buy a rig, wasn't sure if thats reason for refusing is they don't have one big enough. Any ideas? I'll drive if I have too but it be lot nicer find one close. Avoiding danger is no safer in the long run than outright exposure. Life is either a daring adventure, or nothing.”

DAMMIT that was fun !!!!!!!!!! uhm ok I'll drop it now, I guess I'm not the first noob that was hooked, Thanks for the support and criticisms, it takes both to keep this safe and fun. Avoiding danger is no safer in the long run than outright exposure. Life is either a daring adventure, or nothing.”

I never realized there was such a separation between ppl that try extreme stuff and the ones that wont try. I have learned my lesson about telling friends or family about my jump, unless they show an interest. . I'v gotten every response from "your stupid" , "grow up and act your age", Was even told "you deserved to get your knees scuffed up". Well for the record I'm not going to grow up!!!!!!
