Both these names are very popular right now, but as someone who has a name that was #1 right about when I was born, having the same name as "half" the girls I knew was a problem. My last name was semi-common, but I now have a last name that is as common as lisa is for a first name, which is a never ending source of frustration. It does make it hard for someone to pinpoint me online, though. I vote for Abigail out of the two choices you gave us. lisa WSCR 594 FB 1023 CBDB 9

Which are more efficient - roundabouts or 4-way stops?
oldwomanc6 replied to kallend's topic in The Bonfire
1) Here in Turkey, they put in what can loosely be described as a "roundabout." Same general principle, but too small to be of any real value, except to keep the Turkish drivers from cutting the turn too tightly and going into oncoming traffic (this really happens, mostly by taxis and bus drivers) 2) As for the "horns honking" and "broken glass" -- unfortunately, no one teaches American drivers that the right-of-way belongs to the car already in the roundabout. If they explain that when a new one is put in, like put up a road sign about 100m before, I'm sure it will all get figured out much more quickly. (this applies also to someone's earlier post about those "hesitant" drivers already in the circle -- if they don't know who has the right-of-way, of course they're going to hesitate!). Someone also needs to teach some drivers that a yield sign is not a stop sign. lisa WSCR 594 FB 1023 CBDB 9 -

I'm so confused! I keep going back and forth on this issue, but It just keeps going round and round in my mind. Make it Stop! lisa WSCR 594 FB 1023 CBDB 9 -
x2 Who knew holding your hand while I peed would be such a turn on? There has GOT to be a good story behind this particular comment! It's way better if you leave it to your imagination I don't know. Mine has been known to run rampant! lisa WSCR 594 FB 1023 CBDB 9

Some roundabouts have controlled "must exit" lanes but most the ones I drive don't. At any exit point you're free to continue circling or exit. In that case you should use your turn signal, shouldn't you? That way the cars waiting to enter can see you're intending to exit. Save money, time and space. -

How familiar are you with Aesop's fables? In particular the one about the Farmer and the Snake? Essentially the last line goes something to the effect of, "You knew I was a snake when we met, why are you surprised I bit you?" There will ALWAYS be evil in the world. Assuming it will stop is naive. That is not an excuse for it, it's simply pragmatic. I am not assuming they will stop - quite the opposite. I am saying there is only so much the victim can do to stop the harasser, since the victim is not the one who is causing the problem in the first place. Could Promise5 just stop posting on the internet? Sure! Is that really a good way to get rid of bullies online?? No. Again, lots of focus on what to do to avoid the situation and not enough focus on discouraging/punishing those who are actually engaging in the inappropriate behaviour... Promise5 - use all the security measures at your disposal to block said user. Tell moderators - hopefully they can ban her or block her from contacting you. Tell her once and only once to leave you alone. Don't engage in any further conversations with her - act like she does not exist. She may get bored of egging you on if you stop responding. And what if it's me? You're a she? Learn something new, everyday! lisa WSCR 594 FB 1023 CBDB 9

Well water is "inert"? Most well water has plenty of minerals. I understand what you are saying about mineral-lacking water, but if you get enough minerals in your diet, I have yet to hear a plausible explanation of how that can leach minerals from your body. Taste is another thing. Pure water is boring, taste-wise. That's why the best tasting bottled purified water has added TRACE amount of minerals. lisa WSCR 594 FB 1023 CBDB 9
