  1. SR is a well-connected and well-informed voice, but it is only one of many within the sport. Listen and learn, but don't get offended by someone's casual language. It does not diminish their knowledge or the value of the information they are sharing. There are so many similar forms of media outreach for other sports, do you really think that there are a lot of non-jumpers listening in to SR? It is educational, fun and interesting to us, but non-jumpers might find it hard to understand or follow. There are so many more non-jumpers who will find back issues of Parachutist, Blue Skies and even old copies of Skydiving magazine, you should probably be more concerned about how they react to seeing a naked woman in a bathtub full of hotdogs. And don't forget about all the pictures of drunken tom-foolery from boogies or other 'skydiving activities' that show up on FB. People have been doing far more damage to the sport pounding in during demos or causing property damage during drunken, drug-fueled parties, I wouldn't get too bent out of shape over a few bad words. RIP George Carlin
  2. The screenshot of your current profile is for if or when you decide to update it, someone can see that you were jumping a KA120 @ 1.9 with only 300 jumps. And they can see it in the thread in which you admitted to jumping a Velo with less than 400 jumps. Neither one of which is a good idea. All fun and dirty jokes aside ... don't become another statistic. There are enough examples just like you already. This is becoming a tired cliche. Someone comes on DZ.com and talks it up about their sweet skills and how they're unique ... blah, blah, blah. And then they pound in and either disappear or have this wonderful epiphany that everyone else is supposed to admire and respect because the jumper has reformed their ways and is now a model for the youngsters. If this is meant as a fun troll, cool. We can talk trash and ask to have the thread moved into Bonfire. There are plenty of people there with chaffed palms who can add some more humor to the discussion.
  3. Is it really 'harder to turn vertical speed into forward speed' on the VE111 vs the KA120 at your loading? Or is the lack of experience and skill affecting your technique and therefore your understanding of how the canopies fly? You were already way beyond any reasonable loading for your experience level on the KA120. You probably assumed that since you survived the few jumps you've put on the Katana that you're ready to step up to a Velo. When the the pics or video of you pounding in are posted, don't be a pussy and try to remove them and scrub your profile. Just get off your mother, pull your pants up and be a man.
  4. A good pilot should get you to altitude and on jumprun for a HnP with minimal time lost for the rest of the load. That being said ... consider the type of DZ and aircraft in use. Frequent HnP's fit in at some DZ's better than others.
  5. You live in the US. There's no excuse for buying a PD product without knowing it's flight characteristics from first-hand experience. http://www.performancedesigns.com/demorequest.asp If that sounds harsh or patronizing, fine. Call me an iHole.
  6. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vmAJrbUN1T0&list=UUuDAL7vFqdXYc2I-dO7HiJA At 0:08, was someone telling you to "Have a nice skydive"?
  7. DocPop probably isn't wearing a tin foil hat and he posted information in this thread specifically regarding the Peregrine canopy. Do you have any fresh insights into the evolution and design of this canopy or how it flies? Considering how long the Velocity has been at the front of the PD product line for high performance canopies, this new wing is rather special. It appears to be a very different canopy and it has captured the interest of many pilots. We may not earn a chance to fly it, but we're still very curious.
  8. Having jumped a KA120 and a Sam120 with the longer lineset, I would only put them in the same class. The Sam is a good canopy, but the Katana still has better performance (harness response, dive, flare). Something that always makes me chuckle are the comments that the light front riser pressure of the Katana breeds bad habits. Possible. But one can also learn a lot about incorporating harness input into their turns on the Katana because it is so much more responsive. Thank you PD for continuing this evolutionary process.
  9. Rhys!? I wondered what happened to that guy! Good drama.
  10. Whoa ... you start doing that and soon the government will step in and monitor, regulate, control or restrict this private transaction. Best keep this strictly between buyer and seller. Oh, wrong forum?
  11. Your cat isn't evil. The poor thing is living with an idiot.
  12. Very cool. Thank you both. Looks like the result of some new advances in the design of the wing / trim / material to handle the additional loading, dive like a mofo, give the rears more power ... and still open like a PD product.
  13. Just curious if the skills and technique required to fly a comp Velo at its peak translate to the Peregrine? Can you reveal some of the primary differences in flight characteristics? Looks like a very different wing.
  14. Why downsize? Have you jumped a smaller canopy in the same conditions? Did it actually help? Sounds like you'll have plenty of time to demo. PD makes it very easy... http://www.performancedesigns.com/demo_sport.asp
  15. My partner and I are an easy drive from 2 great turbine DZ's (SDC and CSC). But we are even closer to a classic, small Cessna DZ on private property in a small Iowa farm field. Each of these DZ's has unique qualities that we like, but our 'perfect DZ' is wherever we end up on a particular weekend. Sometimes, Skydive Iowa is the 'perfect' DZ. Those hot summer days cranking out hop-n-pops and having the landing area to myself is a little bit of heaven.
  16. You would also need to be much farther ahead of the situation than the demo jumper referenced in the recent incidents thread. That jumper was merely reacting as the events unfolded and was probably not prepared to utilize any technique other than thump and slide. If someone has the foresight to see an object in their path and put down some extra drag in a controlled effort to stop early, they should have the wisdom to not get into such a situation in the first place... especially in a demo.
  17. The first person who responded to your OP described the technique of stretching lines back into trim as "kung-foo". That was an appropriate choice of words. Spend some more time with different experienced riggers and they might share with you some of the voodoo magic they have used on their own gear. These techniques may be tricks that such experienced riggers can employ on their own gear or the gear of others jumpers if they are fully aware of the nature of such modifications. So I guess it's good to see some technical discussion of what could happen when you stretch Spectra lines back into trim. I can't say whether stretching Spectra is good or bad. But I do know of a couple of other types of materials that work a lot better. This sport is not cheap. Don't try to make it so.
  18. Yeah, that kind of stuff can only happen to those tiny, experimental canopies under extreme circumstances. Equipment failures or malfunctions don't happen to 'normal gear'. Why are you pro-RSL? Why are you sometimes conflicted about MARD's? Maybe just me, but if I felt conflicted about any part of my kit, it would stay on the ground.

  20. http://www.ci.zephyrhills.fl.us/about1025.asp "Zephyrhills is a friendly community which respects and embraces its past and heritage, values the diversity of its residents, and encourages economic growth and development while retaining its small town, neighborly charm." If they put up the fence, they should probably remove the CRW pic from their website and the phrase 'encourages economic growth'.
  21. http://skydivedelmarva.com/staff.html Any DZ with a dachshund named Kaiser has GOT to be good!
  22. And N30EA continues flying. Of course, it doesn't have 'MONTEREY' painted above the door. http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=NznRe6w2YMs#t=145s
  23. Brian, thanks for sharing the links. Very fun to see some of the early freefly competitions again. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NznRe6w2YMs&feature=player_detailpage#t=140s Did you have a larger helmet back then?
  24. And he's going to beat you with his spoon.
