  1. +1 Although it may be best to check with an instructor before 'pulling on anything and everything'.
  2. Is that why you're posting with an anonymous profile?
  3. Do you own your own tandem rig? Do you piss on it?
  4. While it may have been safe for experienced jumpers, it would have had real consequences if something went wrong regardless of who was involved. Tandems are one of a few touch points were our sport meets Joe Public. Had something gone wrong on this, Joe Public may not have differentiated between who was on the jump. They may simply conclude that tandems are too dangerous and therefore should be avoided. I compare this to inexperienced or unrated persons doing higher profile demos. There are certain parts of this sport that demand the highest amount of respect from us above and beyond that which we demand for our own safety.
  5. One such person will soon be a first-time parent. For the sake of the child, I sincerely hope their parent(s) can stay clean and sober. Perhaps making babies is the new distraction...
  6. Glad to hear that you're stepping away from the path of destruction this guy is creating. Just a word of caution about 'half-measures'... there are people out there who struggle with the disease of addiction and find some way(s) to cope while avoiding the chemical or other triggers that lead to damaging behaviors. They may find a geographical solution, change their name, get a new job, get married, etc. and appear to have 'gotten it together'. That is dangerous territory for the addict and those around him/her. Be wary. I know a couple of people who have employed such measures as a temporary fix, but their delusion came crashing down later and they hit a new and even lower 'bottom', often causing even more pain and grief. If this guy does get into a program, there may be a time when he wants to reach out to you to say he is sorry (make amends). You probably know this, but I'll say it anyway ... your participation should not be necessary for his recovery to work. If he does find it necessary to reach out to you, you are not obligated in any way. And some food for thought to those who think conquering addiction requires avoiding the triggers 'at all costs' ... That may be true for some addicts and it can be fairly easy to change the people and places in their life to minimize temptation while they are (hopefully) actively engaged in an ongoing recovery program. But eating disorders can't be treated in the same way. My sister has been battling anorexia for 35+ years. Food is not the enemy, and yet it can be a trigger for people with eating disorders. We all have to eat, so the struggle takes on a completely new dimension.
  7. The OP may not want a lecture on the use of Skyhooks. BTW ... Is 'Skaydiving' the way it's pronounced over there?

    I got a job!

Congrats. Please don't push the wrong button.
  9. You can stop now and you'll always have those 3 jumps. Nothing wrong with that. You made the jumps and you landed safely. But please don't let time distort the reality of what you have done. http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?post=4576363 We already have enough people telling stories that can be summed up with... "The older I get, the better I was".
  10. Also agreed. You are right about advocacy. The ongoing efforts of yourself and others is very important. Sorry, I was referring to any action at the airport or LZ. FastRon: http://www.uspa.org/AboutUSPA/Donations/tabid/316/Default.aspx
  11. Seriously? I know that was not directed at me, but as someone else already pointed out, any action should start with the DZO. It's their business. Respect that and reach out to them first if you want to help.
  12. That's it, right there. Whatever the problem may be, it comes down to the addict making the 'program' work. Others can jump in and help guide the addict to rehab or other forms of help, but the addict MUST take ownership of their recovery. Friends and family are not counselors or therapists and their love and support should not be required or expected for an addict to recover. Best of luck to you and the OP. I hope you have been able to get help for yourself if needed.
  13. Which proves once again that she is just reaching out in any way she can. She has been following what she believes to be the appropriate processes and simply pushing very hard to get her way. She also seems to have the luxury of time and money to fight the battle. She may continue to use any legal means necessary to fight and she may continue to have the financial resources to do so. 16. And now, a low-tech musical instrument... http://www.latimes.com/local/la-na-ff-c1-border-music-20140130-dto,0,3650473.htmlstory#axzz2sqz2DA00 Snaps to those who can find something beautiful in -- or create something beautiful from -- the mundane.
  17. Yes. And the people in the OP's picture are retarded.
