Which makes you more safe: A restraining order, or a gun?
PiLFy replied to JohnRich's topic in Speakers Corner
A restraining order won't stop a murderer. However, if the person's crime or intended crime is anything short of murder, a restraining order can be a very effective tool in ensuring that they will be arrested. Once a restraining order is in place, mere contact--as opposed to behavior that rises to the level of stalking or threats--is sufficient justification for the person to be arrested first and asked questions later. A lot of crimes in this kind of situation are of a "he says, she says" nature. A restraining order moves things out of the "he says, she says" arena and legally establishes that any contact, regardless of its nature, is a crime. Proving mere contact is generally much easier than proving intimate details of what that contact involved. A restraining order is a legal tool. Again, if someone is bent on murder and nothing else, they won't be stopped by a restraining order. But if you're dealing with someone who is likely to gradually escalate their abuse if they aren't dealt with in a firm way by authority, a restraining order is a tool that can help. Or, it can cause the escalation by pushing a controlling person's buttons. -
Shah, I'm a bit taken aback by this. You cite a number of life circumstances that require more cash. Now, you're considering an overpriced German sportscar that was designed to cost you more money. It doesn't make sense. If I may? You need to think w/your big head, not the little one. If you had a more reliable car than a V-dub? You could drive it another four years before having these thoughts. (VW lovers, spare me your protestations...) We are most likely headed into another recession... The smart thing would be to count your blessings, & be happy w/what you've got. If anything, buying a smaller $15K car NEW would be the far better choice. A new car should last you 160K-200K miles/10yrs, if need be. You even have a garage to do your own maintenance in. A used, exotic sportscar w/supposedly only 11K on the clock??? That's a horrible idea, Shah.

Which makes you more safe: A restraining order, or a gun?

Why, a restraining order, of course, John. Because EVERYONE respects & follows the law. Just ask the fruitcakes up in Berkeley... Hell, a R/O on a large enough piece of paper will even stop a charging lion in his tracks. -
A younger friend contacted me out of the blue. He said his B-Day was in two months, & he wanted to go skydiving. All of his friends were punking out, though. He asked me to go w/him. I thought "Skydiving....Yeah, I always wanted to do that." I'd totally forgotten about it over the years. I said "Yeah, what the H*ll. Schedule it." The rest is predictable. At first, there were ten of us. Five quickly found excuses. The other three kept wavering on when to go. W/winter quickly approaching, I set a date. "If you're here, great. If you're not? I'll let you know how much fun it was..." Five of us jumped that (really freakin cold ) day. I'm the only one who came back for more.

Thats was just a coincidence, the character was all that. but, it only drew my attention because it does look like Shah. The character description is just Jam It wasn't jam. It was your latest PA. At least have the chops to own it.

What's so different then, when someone has a little fun with HIM? Malice.

No Worries, John. I know you're friendly w/Shah. I remember you went to his DZ a while back, as well. I'm not mad at Squeak, either. I've come to expect nothing better from him. He's just come back from time off for PAs against Shah. Now, here he is again w/this. As you know, John. Shah is a good guy. He just likes to start sh*t now & then to have a little fun. Some people can't tell when he's only joking around.
-
I'm not mouthing off, Troll. I responded to your thinly veiled PA against Shah. "The character was an annoying little faerie, which kept popping up and antagonizing people."
-
Lessee, My name isn't Francis. I'm not angry. I do practice what I preach. I didn't open the attachments as they were from you.
-
Piss on all o' ya... I like Shah. He provides entertainment. If you can't tell when he's joking or serious? That's your problem.

Studying skydiving / Skydiving culture
PiLFy replied to saisid's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
"You'll be famous - like those people that went and lived with chimpanzees and gorillas." -
"Bombers are cool and all, but fighters will always win." OK, Göring didn't say that...

How not to? Warn your instructors you'll cartoon/caricature-slam them in your blog if they label you as such .

This. I rode on the street for 27 years. My bike is officially for sale. The economic pressure cooker of >2009 hasn't brought out the best in many drivers. There are now far more Idiots, & also more sick POSs who want to take you out. A little voice told me it was time to give it up, or else... Listen to the voices. I hope you boy heals quickly.

- sunroof Don't want one. - leather interiorDon't want one. - be Bluetooth enabledDon't need it. - built in navigation systemDon't need it. Unless you buy a stripped down base(ment) model. Cars today already come standard w/everything you need. Plus, assorted creature comforts as an added bonus. Manufacturers aren't making cars as good as they should the past few years. Quality has suffered along w/the economy. The more you spend on decking out your new ride? The more irritating the quality deficiencies will be to you. I vote that you spend the extra options' money on gear & jumps. You'll get far more enjoyment out of it.

My $0.02? When I started jumping. I wanted to share what I'd found w/others. I mentioned it to my racing friends. I've about thirty friends I kart race with. I heard a lot of the usual responses like you do (Wow! I've always wanted to! Let's do it sometime...). These guys are young, aggressive, & most of 'em have money. How many of my racing friends actually took me up on the offer when I posted the info on our board? ZERO... Not one of them stepped up. Always wanting to jump is one thing. Having to actually face your fears (& potential failure of mastering them) is quite another. Now, I make it known that I jump. If someone wants to know more? They'll find me. Pushing friends to jump will only cost you friends, IMHO.
