I've a suggestion that might help you. What you're talking about is poor proprioception. You don't have a good sense of where your body parts are. Do you have a large mirror somewhere @home? Ideally, one you can view while lying on your bed ( = easier on the back). If not, you can buy a cheap one that will work. Lay on the floor, & assume the (arched) position. W/a large mirror, you'll be able to see what is normally happening behind you. W/a little practice this way. You should be able to better train this sense. Doing this on the floor will strain your lower back after a while, though. You could still practice on a floor w/o arching completely. Hope this helps.

He wants to ride in NYC, why would you need a 600CC bike in NYC? As far as I'm concerned. Anything less than a 600 is a moped. I've always owned big bore bikes. Why have at least a 600 in a city? To get out of the way, of course. A moving target is much harder to hit... ...and the well educated world traveler long legged flat bellied, perky boobied hotties dig the Vespa! No, Shah. They dig the gay hairstylists who ride them. They want to look in their wardrobe closets.
-
OMFG, Shah... I'm going to forget that I saw this, & we can just move on. What ever happened to Don't Ask_Don't Tell? But all things considered, please put aside cash for proper gloves, jackets and do not forget the matching pink pumps!! There, FIFY, Nancy...

They sure did a nice job w/the new Commandos. I forgot the guy's name in Oregon. He used to do some beautiful restorations/customizations of vintage Commandos.
-
I agree w/others who suggest an SV650. They're wonderful little bikes that are cheap to buy/maintain/hop up. BUT... do you mean starter bike as in you want to learn how to ride in NEW YORK CITY?!?! Tell me I'm misunderstanding you. Otherwise, you're right. You ARE nuts. A city is no place to learn how to survive on two wheels. They're hostile environments.

"A cartoon of some of 'Twardo's old stories would be fabulous! There are some really good ones in the "Scary Stories From the Old Days" thread in the History and Trivia forum." Dunno. Some of 'Twardos stories are kinda raunchy. I'm picturing a certain Cessna doing parabolas during his college days ...

"Flare This" w/a Birdie?!?! You were considerably more reserved in the earlier cartoons, Jennifer. I think someone has been hanging around 'Snore after the beer light comes on ... Nice cartoons! Keep 'em coming.

Is that snake crap in your mouth, or are you just happy to see me?

Taking the piss - One of the things Americans find hardest about the Brits is our sense of humour. It is obviously different and is mainly based on irony, sarcasm and an in-built desire to "take the piss". This has nothing to do with urine, but simply means making fun of someone. http://www.effingpot.com/slang.shtml I know. It would be easier if Brits spoke English... -
Thanks, Joe. I can't keep up w/all the slang you kids use...

No need to get huffy, Canookie. Apples & Oranges, the street isn't the track. I'm glad you got to kick a little Ferrari tail. I haven't been on a track all season. I miss it.

You mean like this: http://www.pap-parts.com/products.asp?dept=4150 $7.50 a quart, retail. Come on, Shah(?). It took me far longer to type this, than to find that...
-
Here Shah: http://www.autozone.com/autozone/accessories/Fluids-and-Chemicals/Engine-Oil/_/N-26qq I believe this is the viscosity your car takes. I googled that just for kicks. I'm not saying to buy it in single quarts as it's more expensive that way. Even so, you can see a price range of $6-$8... If you're paying more? You're getting hosed.
-
I do not know what viscosity the Boxster should use, but my 911 uses 0W-50 and I pay at least double the price you are quoting for synthetic 0W-50. My Toyota uses 0-20W synthetic @around $6-$8 (depending on where & when you buy). Zero to fifty is a big spread. Maybe that's why it costs more? Or, is there a cute lil Porsche on the label ?

I have yet to see I tighter fit for an oil filter than on my current motorcycle. I put an aftermarket exhaust on it. The header is really tight to the engine w/it. I simply bought an oil filter wrench designed to fit that size filter. It male_female slides over the finger grooves on the back of the filter. The attachment was only something like $11, & works like a charm. Maybe you can find one in your size? It sure beats losing an engine due to a crummy filter, IMHO. Cut apart a Fram, & compare it's insides w/a quality filter's. What you see will scare you.
-
You've got a garage w/that condo, right Shah? You should see some of the places I've had to change my oil over the years. Synthetic oil is $6-$7 per quart. Good oil filters are around $10. What little things, pray_tell, are worth the extra $90???
-
OK, I'll ask. What does FIFY mean?
-
I was thinking the same thing, but... Let me get this straight. You use FRAM oil filters ?!?! I used to use them years ago. Then, I cut one open out of curiosity. It was nothing but a circle of cheap cardboard glued to the base.
-
Wow. Glad you're OK. I'd have had to check my underwear for sure after that. This is another example of why us Newbies should be allowed to jump w/a camera. We get into some of the best sh*t ...

Bry, Aren't you the guy who told me you had flail chest? You had said you had other issues as well a few months ago. If I've confused you w/someone else? My apologies. Whether or not chest pain is cardiogenic only takes a competent MD a few minutes to ascertain. I figured you were joking about getting medical advice from the peanut gallery. If you're getting new aches/pains in your chest? A quick office visit w/your MD will (hopefully) allay your fears. Tell you what. I feel bad if my earlier post came across wrong. Here's a vid I stumbled upon as I've been sick @home for a couple of days: http://www.liveleak.com/view?i=3a0_1317736386 It's of a 29yoa girl who is about to hear for the first time in her life

Ten seconds for the first thousand feet. Then, five seconds per thousand. It's more like 22+ seconds from door to floor. Stop scaring the kids .

W/his physical history??? He's joking, Lisa.

Which makes you more safe: A restraining order, or a gun?

I remember this case. He got the mother in law, the wife's dog, & the nasty SOB who lived across the street, too. Damnedest thing... OK, I just stumbled across this, & thought of this thread: http://www.reuters.com/article/2011/10/03/us-battered-wife-idUSTRE79275Y20111003 A quick scan of the article revealed no prior police documentation of the alleged abuse. She emptied a .38 into him. Then, grabbed a nine, & put six more rounds into his prostrate & helpless body. -

Sorry Dave, I didn't think my reply was unfriendly(?). No offense intended. I usually never even peruse the topics in SC. I've noticed the regulars just love to argue (& argue...& argue...). I don't. I only looked in here because I'm sick @home, & bored. People get really touchy about certain topics. Sometimes, I'm one of them. I make a rule of avoiding those topics unless I know someone very well. I guess I broke my rule. FWIW, I agree w/everything you typed in your last reply. -

PiLFy replied to JohnRich's topic in Speakers Corner
It's your choice, of course. Were I in an abusive relationship. I'd end it. Were I in fear for my life. Bet your ass I'm ready to defend it. That's not bravado. It's common sense, IMHO. My reply to you wasn't an invite to a back & forth. It was merely an observation. I'm dead set in my SA beliefs. I've no need or desire to join the fray, here.
