Re: [Liemberg] Gus Wing Hit By Otter At Deland
arlo replied to -Barry-'s topic in Safety and Training
i personally don't care what you think and for the life of me can't figure out why you won't go away. just go away. your presence is as bad as someone knocking on my door at 9am on a saturday morning trying to sell me religion. better yet...contact a guy named "rhino" on these forums. i tell ya what, this dude knows everything that happened here in deland this weekend and has the answers to all the questions. he did a complete root cause analysis from his armchair in michigan. you guys hook up over coffee and get back to us on how to make our lives safer. look forward to the report. -
hey...just let it go. these guys are like trolls - stirring the pot just to get something controversial started. if people call and start arguing, they get more people listening and it's more money in their pockets. these guys probably just sit in the booth and touch themselves anyway, so don't waste your time worrying about the mentality it takes for them to do what they do. god bless 'em. they obviously aren't rocket scientists. if you really wanna get back at them, call the advertisers for their show and tell them you will not support their products/services. will it do any good? i doubt it ...unless it's in large numbers. but it can't hurt. let 'em have a good laugh. it must be a sad existence to not have anything else in their lives to laugh at...

the second pic HAS to be a little Korean baby.

www.reflexology.org looks like an informative website to start out with. i saw a couple other websites as well when i searched on "reflexology." here's one with good hand/foot chart: http://mypage.direct.ca/h/horstman/footchart.html oh yeah, some massage therapy schools offer short courses in reflexology so that might be something worth looking into locally. good luck with your project.... p.s. kimgriffin and skyminxx are two good ones to ask about it. they're both massage therapists and are super in touch with that stuff (pun intended).

awesome song, IMO, so i guess that makes both of us, uh, "wrong."

the wildfire is a 170 (168) sq foot 9 cell F-111 canopy. i wouldn't recommend anyone load it more than 1:1, which this person would be doing. i had one of the "newer" ones (flight concepts from 1998) for about 100 jumps and decided that i should go with a softer opening canopy instead. arlo

ding ding. travis, you hit it right on the head. bottom line is there is usually alot more air traffic than normal due to sun-n-fun and paying especially close attention to it is just the smart thing to do. you guys be safe and have fun out there this weekend. p.s. someone smack hans upside the head for me for not bringing miss kris with him this go-round. hans, if you read this, bring your better half to zhills sometime, would ya?
-
you're right. they "shouldn't" but it never hurts to say it. just like people should know to fasten their chest straps and other things taken for granted. truth is, some people forget. i'd rather offer a reminder or be offered a reminder than read about it. yeah, if they're into that sorta thing. i would guess some prefer neatly trimmed...
-
glad to hear it. i hope it stays that way so you guys can get some jumps in this weekend. i've been there when they shut it down due to traffic....
-
the air traffic sucks ass in a most horrendous way...seriously. i won't do it again. alot of them fly directly over zhills airport paying no heed to anything going on. keep in mind it's one of THE biggest aircraft shows in the country and alot of these private aircraft don't have radios. so "jumpers out" means squat to them. i love zhills, but sun-n- fun air traffic sucks big hairy donkey balls. if you jump, make sure to look around REALLY REALLY good for aircraft.

you could've at least brought them over to pd... what the hell were you thinking??

yep, that's why i mentioned ingestion of alphas and betas. gamma harm comes from the ionization that occurs as it's passing thru that nice, soft tissue. i believe that gamma radiation IS harmful and does injure cells and tissue because of its high energy ionization... but hey, that's just me. arlo edited to add: if you really wanted to find out how much radiation dose you recieved, you could always buy a TLD (thermoluminescent device) which has 3 little "windows" to record the 3 types you may or may not have been exposed to. that way you could find out how much dose is received while skydiving.
-
gamma radiation penetrates the skin regardless. skin stops alpha particles, but betas might slide thru (plastic can stop beta from entering the eyes - hence the plastic googles). the problem with alphas and betas came if you ingested them somehow. when i worked as an operator at a nuke plant, we would use lead shielding (to shield the sources) in radiation areas to minimize our exposure to the gamma radiation. the other two methods used were time (minimizing your stay time) and distance (radiation levels decrease the further away from the source you are). so i guess what i'm saying is that the skin detox sounds great, but it won't do anything to stop the gamma radiation from penetrating your skin. arlo p.s. to throw things into perspective: a person would receive more radiation exposure from a single panoramic x-ray than i would get in a year at the plant. thought nugget. go easy on the x-rays if you can.

thanks kelli. :)

dude, if your profile is correct, then that puts you 280 pounds out the door. if that's the case, then it's no wonder you didn't get off the net in orlando. how tall are you? if you're super tall, then it'd be easier to fly. if you're like 5'5", then it wasn't gonna happen anyway. #1) middle of july the tunnel can fly slow and "mushy" due to the ambient air temp...which in the summer is usually a million degrees with a millon percent humidity. being in perris in november would normally give you cooler, drier air to fly in. 2) your experience level hopefully changed for the better between july and november and you'd have a better feel of how to fly your body. 3) did you lose weight between july and nov? in all seriousness, if you weighed 280 in july in orlando, IMO you shouldn't have been backflying anyway. don't take that personally (which alot of folks tend to do sometimes) but max weight is max weight and the fans can only do so much. PM me the instructor's name if you'd like. i'm curious to see why you were freeflying in there anyway. my brother weighs in at almost 250 and he was in the biggest(yellow) suit that skyventure had and he was flying dead spider, but still managed to get up a bit - and that was pre-retrofitted motors. btw, motors were upgraded 2003. hope this helps. if i'm way off base, PM me. enjoy your next trip to orlando!!! most of the instructors there rock. :) arlo
