GI Bill/College Fund to get a rigger's ticket??
cameramonkey replied to ACMESkydiver's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
You could always re-up for 4 years with a MOS of 92R... (Parachute Rigger) I am sure you could test out for your FAA ticket pretty easily after that... if they dont give you one as part of the training... Two wrongs don't make a right, however three lefts DO! -
Traveling American Airlines with rig
cameramonkey replied to freefalljason's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Even better... A forum all to itself, plus... -Stickied -link to uspa letter -Facts like saber entries for each airline (as they are collected with help of airline freinds) -link to TSA letters, rules, etc -any other general info Hell, now that i think of it, USPA really should have a page with all that... after all, what the hell did I just shell out almost $70 bucks for... just a pretty card and a magazine subscription???? (rhetorical question from someone who just signed this years check, no flame wars plz) anyway, it would be nice for travellers to have one place to go to get all the printouts they need to help grease the wheels of the ride thru TSA checkpoints. REMEMBER... the government LOVES paperwork. The more paperwork you can hand a career TSA guy (to a point), chances are the happier he will be because that is what he has grown accustomed to. Should I ask for a rebate?
cameramonkey replied to napaguy99's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I'd say call them or email them with the jpg. see what they offer. If they are like Jump shack, they'll have no problems shipping out a new set of leg pads or fixing it for you. I bought my rig several years ago, and when it arrived, the combo of a narrow rig with wide straps caused severe pinching in the netherest of my nether region. when I called, I pretty much got a response of " of course it pinches, it always does when you use that combo of features. I am surprised nobody called to tell you before they built it." a week later, I had a new set of pads, and my rigger put them on for me. So you never know what they will do... ask, it wont hurt. I say we tell the UN to go f- themselves in respect to helping with the rebuilding. I think If they want in on this one, they need to pick up the tab, and thats just to get us to even CONSIDER it. More payments would be required depending on several factors, including how hard it was for us, number of casualties, etc. If they wanted in, they should have cooperated when we originally asked. it kinda reminds me of some skydivers... when you ask them if they want to kick in some cash for a cookout, beer, or whatever and they say no... but then are the first ones there to mooch off the paying members of the group for a burger, beer, etc. Two wrongs don't make a right, however three lefts DO!

Anyone see the Pretender episode where he assumes the ID of a skydiving instructor. It was fun to watch the beginning. They show him with a tandem rig on, sitting on the edge of the door of a C206. He has a small conversation with the passenger (how many times have you done this? Including this one? yes. Once!) Then they roll out the door. There were two big problems I saw. first, they were on the wrong side of the airplane. Plus, the tandem harness wasnt hooked up. You could see as they rolled out together they werent attached (massive amounts of daylight between them). Cheesy and fake, but still entertaining. DUHHHH!!!! When was the last time YOU flew somewhere commercial and didnt need to check a bag? Seems to me the ones without baggage should be the most suspicious. But then again, what do I know. I was told by the govt I wasnt qualified to work for them. Apparently I have been known to think for myself (logically at that) too many times. Not very likely... at least not if you have ever tried to get thru the masses at the baggage carousel... seems then like not only everyone on your flight checked bags, but half the city had freinds send bags for them via the airlines to them. I wanna know when you have him finished. can you imagine us forming a clan and wandering around servers looking like that? would be cool to see the looks on peoples faces. could be good for at least one kill/person as they sit there dumbfounded trying to figure out what we are. nah... that cant really be a skydiver could it? I skydive, she doesnt. Even thinking of marrying this one. She is hard core wuffo, but doesnt mind I jump, provided I balance my two lives. I am glad I am not jumping as much as I could be. I am experiencing more in life than I would had I just been hanging out at the DZ every single weekend. Yeah, some of my hard core juming buddies have given me a hard time, but I think i am a better person for settling down with a wuffo. Now if things start slacking back with her demanding more and more time... thats another story. I have already made it PERFECTLY clear that the only one telling me to stop (or jump less) is me. If she wants me to stop, good luck. She might was well find another wuffo and leave. We'll see how it goes. Two wrongs don't make a right, however three lefts DO!

I feel your pain. I started Wellbutrin for ADHD a month ago. When he prescribed it, they said there was a potential for seizures, but only if I was predisposed to them, had a family history, yadda yadda. In looking around, I found that the problem isnt so much the being on it that is the problem... it can cause seizures. but not as bad as dropping the drug cold turkey. Might have to wean myself off to be safe. Greeeat. just what I wanted to hear... kinda like taking a racecar out, and when you are in the middle of the track, the guys come over the radio and say" oh, by the way, be careful of the breaks, you could spin out of control, but dont worry-it isnt as bad as when you actually need to use them to come to a complete stop." god I hate docs. (and the meds at least take the edge off. I go back monday for a follow up. No cure, but I do feel a little better) Two wrongs don't make a right, however three lefts DO!

if you use outlook express, you can get that semi-automatically. they are called read receipts. when the user opens the message, they are prompted to acknowlege the receipt (if thier mail program supports the standard). then you get a message back saying it was read. not perfect, but works sometimes. That seems fair. In much the same way that everyone blames Bush for our current economic slowdown. I have wondered how it is that Bush could have been responsible for a the overvaluation of the stock markets in the mid-90s. Guess he's a super evil jeen-yus. FallRate Exactly.... I too grew up watching him. I couldnt help but well up a bit when I heard the news this am on CNN. I havent seen the show in years, but everything about it is permanently etched into my memory. The fish, the stoplight, the waist level sand table in the back yard, and who could forget the neighborhood of makebeleive. *sigh* I too hope that it is on reruns forever. I want my kids to be able to grow up with such an entertaining and educational show. I also liked the videos he would show. I think he helped create a market for a few foodtv, discovery, and TLC programs today. I still cant pass a show about how stuff is made to this day. And as for him not being a phony, I have heard that. I knew a guy that met him in person about 10 years ago. He said that he is exactly like he is on TV. So sweet and gentle it was a little scary. Thank you so much Fred for all you have done for us and our kids. God Speed, and I hope to really have you as a neighbor one day. Two wrongs don't make a right, however three lefts DO!

Ok, here's the deal. I am just wondering how many mindless sheep we have in here. After reading the post, you probably wont answer honestly, but you'll know who you are. I am getting sick and tired of having to "reply all" to a forward, telling the group the truth because people are mindlessly forwarding an email along because it LOOKS legit. This mindless use of email of course causes false info to be circulated, and people to believe things that arent true. Literally 90% (and thats a low estimate) of the emails I get as forwards(chain letters) are outright false. These may seem legit, but can be researched in a matter of seconds thanks to the power of the web. Come on kids, how in the world is Bill Gates going to send you a check for forwarding a message to 25 of your freinds or more? Does he have your snail mail address? (NO) Does he even know who you are based on an email address? (NO) Can email even be tracked that way? (generally a BIIG NO)(http://www.tafkac.org/ulz/emailtracking.html if you havent seen it) So before you hit that forward button, double check the validity of what you are sending. The unpolularity you are contributing to is most likely your own. http://www.snopes.com (the site was unavailable when I wrote this, but is the best out there) http://www.urbanlegends.com Sorry if I sound worked up over seemingly nothing, but its honestly VERY irritating to me. I can quickly and painlessly double check a fact before telling the world, why cant anyone else? And why do people insist on beleiving everything that comes in via email, no matter how absurd it really seems when they actually THINK about it for 30 seconds? /rant Two wrongs don't make a right, however three lefts DO!

I agree on the sensationalism. We have a station here in Indy that does similar things. For instance, at 5pm the day after the RI nightclub fire where Great White set the place ablaze, they had this teaser... "Fire in RI nightclub kills 60, Act of terrorism, or accident?" My jaw literally hit the freakin floor. It wouldnt have been so utterly offensive had the press not been circulating the video from inside the club of the fire ACTUALLY STARTING!(I saw it no less than 3 times that afternoon) There was no doubt it had absof*ckinglutely no shred of truth, there wasnt even a doubt. Hell, at the 8am news that day they were already saying what caused it (on other stations). Yellow journalism at its best. Two wrongs don't make a right, however three lefts DO!

State's deadliest skydiving operation
cameramonkey replied to brettpobastad's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Not to discount it, but remember, wuffos tend to overexaggerate things in our sport. As an example, what can look like inches on tape far away can be tens of feet in reality. Its amazing what a camera's lack of depth perception can do to ya. I'd wait for the official FAA report before passing too much judgement. (although I DO have to admit the high accident rate is unsettling) *note for the curious: I have NOTHING to do with KAS, and have never been farther west than texas* Two wrongs don't make a right, however three lefts DO! -
Good luck with that... there are pitfalls with that one too... http://www.paypalwarning.com I dont deal in anything more than $200 at a time with paypal. and refuse to get "verified" by giving them access to my bank accounts. Too many horror stories for my blood. IF (big IF) I do ever go with paypal and get registered, I'll have a specific bank account for them to use, so they cant reverse/hold/etc on me. once the money is in my acct, it will immediately be transferred out of reach of them. Why the govt hasnt stepped in and demanded they be regulated like a bank is beyond me. It sure seems to work like one. If it walks like a duck, quacks like a duck... Man... I am not afraid to say this, but its hard to type with the tears in my eyes. The first post literally brought tears to my eyes, and an utterly sick feeling. So bad I had to go over and hug my cat. Of course he didnt appreciate it very much since he was asleep, but I felt a little better. Glad to hear he is going to be ok. It may seem like alot of $$, but a small price to pay for such a dear freind. Blue ones!

Try this one... I was shooting 4 way 2 years ago for my team(first year). We were at a new (to us) DZ, with a King air with no step. I climbed out first, and still had my left foot firmly planted at the back of the door, with the door frame corner right in the arch of my foot. Before I could slide it out to put my toe on the edge, our tail climbed out and planted his weight on his right foot, SNUGLY against the left side of my shoe. About that time, I was trying to pull my foot back to do my toe plant, but no way... I was wedged in TIGHT. So instead of a graceful, slightly early launch, I did a simultaneous launch, hands only... my foot stayed put for a brief second. That caused a less than graceful "turtle" launch (aka nestea plunge). next thing I know, I am on my back under the formation. Geez. The team saw me, and held the formation for a sec for me to roll back over and get in position. Never will do THAT again. Luckilly my team was pretty cool about the whole thing, and we still laugh about it. Two wrongs don't make a right, however three lefts DO!
