Not much you can do in my situation unfortunately. At least not as far as changing policy is concerned. You just have to pray the flat fliers give you good separation. Sadly I have seen a lot of them come too close to me for comfort. I make sure to do a complete 360 barrel roll before dumping - even on solos. dove

Thanks Phree! Then Lake Wales it is....next time I get some time off during a full moon. Yippee! Night jumps are super fun - very surreal like Marshall said. And cause they are new and different there is a little bit of fear tossed into the recipe which I SO feed on! I didn't have any trouble with depth perception since the landing area was so lit up by cars. Nice sweet tiptoe landing. That's why I prefer a place that does do the carlight thing. One tip if you do go - pay attention to the landscape the whole way up and choose new landmarks as your normal landmarks may not be visible at night! This was especially important to me as I was jumping at a dz with a grass runway so not as easy to spot to begin with! Have fun! Wheeeeeeeeeeeee!!!! dove

I finally got some freefly pictures of me by the AMAZING Bobby P! I absolutely am NOT having fun in this picture! (hehe!!!) dove

The dz I used to call home (Delmarva) ALWAYS put flat fliers out first citing that they will blow much further back and away from the freefliers coming straight down. My new home dz (ZHills) puts freefliers out first because they get down much quicker so will always be out of the way of the flat fliers. I can see arguments for both sides and this topic always confuses the crap out of me. The main downside of putting freefliers out first though is what if I am freeflying and have a premature opening at, say, 7,000. Then I am right in the path of the flat fliers! At least I think I am. I just wish there was one standard rule (yeah, right!) so I wouldn't have to think so much about it with every new dz! It gets very confusing! Not to mention inconvenient when you think you're out last but you're out first and you have to crawl over the flat fliers to get to the door! Still baffled and shaking head... dove

SO not fair! I hate working weekends!!!! dove
-
I won't know all the particulars til I get there but I am assuming it will be super hard to get anyone into anything considering all the info and security stuff I have to go through. But we'll definitely have to meet! dove

Lisa, I think the fact that it disturbs you so much is testament to how much you care about your kid. And I have to say I don't know a single kid of skydiving parents that isn't wonderful, dynamic, standup and loving toward their parents. And that is entirely because skydivers know life is about being happy and spreading it around. Not about expensive flight school lessons or a new car on your 16th birthday. Congrats to you on an awesome job of parenting! Maybe through Darwinian elimination we will someday be a society of happy skydivers. yeehaw! dove

I was thinking Lake Wales... cause Zhills doesn't light up the landing area the way I like. You rely on moonlight whereas I prefer a bunch of headlights for added safety. Haven't asked Lake Wales what they do about that. However, it just occurred to me I'll be doing the AFC Championship game that weekend so I'll have to wait a while. :( Stupid, stupid job!

We had snow at altitude on New Years Eve day at Zhills. Looks wild from the plane and then when it was collecting on my buddy's shoulders in head down (he had a black jumpsuit on!) Didn't hurt at all! A bit distracting though - in a good way! dove It just occurred to me how that statement might strike a whuffo - being distracted while hurling toward the earth at 180 mph in the snow! Hehehe!

Thank Frank! I'm really excited about it too! And boy is that first jump back gonna feel good! Airgasm! dove
-
Of course it hurts! When coming down you are hitting the pointy end of the rain drops!!!! So - what does it feel like to fly wet canopy? I always wondered about that. dove
-
Gary, Don't think I'll have much down time. But if I get internet access and you are here maybe we could hook up for drinks or something! Keep in touch. When ya comin? dove
-
And if anyone needs another reason to come to Zhills this weekend.... Partly Cloudy Fri-Mon, highs around 70. You know you wanna come! dove
-
Work it, brother man! Not only are you a good son but next time you wanna go spend several days and way too much money at the dz how can they say no?! BTW - a good way to look at life. Down the road you won't even remember that you missed a few jumps or had to shell out some cash for a recurrency jump. But you'll never forget all the special moments you got with just you and Grandpa. Irreplaceable memories. The thread of life! Your grandpa sounds like a trooper. How lucky he is to have you! dove

QUIT SKYDIVING?!?!?!?!?!?!? Who said anything about quitting skydiving? (except my ex and notice I said ex!) But damn this is an expensive sport! And I am already hurtin' from the whole separation/divorce thing. Little rich boy wanted everything and I wanted out so here I am.... gotta get some furniture but hark! do I hear the prop turning..... OK - so I guess i need to contact you about a necklace.... Oops! I'm drooling! I'll go clean up and catch up with ya later! dove P.S. I had NO idea they were gonna put that pic in there and when I heard i was in the ad I thought part of a collage type thing... not I AM the ad! That was a kickass fun jump too! My pre-second in an inflatable raft/chair! And my pre-first Thanksgiving jump too! I love this stuff!

If you don't get an answer here you might ask your question on diverdriver.com. :) dove

THAT is hilarious! HAHAHAHA! I love it! Great for a tandem especially! I Just Wanna Fly - Sugar Rae Battleflag - Low Fidelity Allstars (not flying related - but kick ass song!) dove
-
Pammi, Yeah - I am in there. I think on page 71 or 61... in the lake wales ad. That's my chiclet grin on the inflatable guiness chair. Hey - why's your mag so late! And by the way, since I seem to be rambling... I had just decided to get a necklace, though I can't afford it and you are quitting. I am SO jealous of snowflake's necklace! I love blue... Guess I'll have to learn to weave em myself... yeah, like that'll ever happen! But good for you keeping your priorities. Happiness is key and family time too. Cheers! dove

Yeah - I thought of finding a dz but I will have not one single day off from January 29 to February 26. Good thing - I didn't even think about the ban. A day off would be brutal on the ground!
-
Haha! So true! By the time you get to jump run you are like screw the green light I need to get out of here! I have heard that quote one other time before and I think it is hilarious... when the stink is so thick you can see the fumes... "I smell fear!" But seriously folks.... things like sauerkraut, bratwurst, any mexican food, cruciferous vegetables and the like should be banned from drop zone culture. I can take your standard household fart but the industrial strength ones can be hard to stomach in a small enclosed area! holding it til exit.... dove

Wow ! I was just whining on Cyberskydive's post about also looking for work and all of a sudden..... I got an offer to go work at the Olympics in Salt Lake for a month! Holy #%@@! How lucky is that?!?!?! For someone in my profession (TV graphics for live sporting events) that is the stuff! Wow! Unfortunately it means I won't be able to jump at all in February (Wahhhhhhhhh!!!) and then there is March Madness so hardly any jumps there.... but April here I come! Yippee!!!!! And this coming weekend is the first one I've had off in 4 months (since the beginning of the NFL season - well except the weekend after Sept. 11th, but that didn't feel like a vacation). I'll have to jump my tiny hiney off to make up for lost jumps ahead of time. I hope I'll be able to play on dz.com from Salt Lake or I'll really suffer hard from the altitude withdrawal! dove
-
Yup! I saw you at lake wales on registration day. Then caught up with you at Zhills after the weekend. That was me!! Yup yup! dove
-
I believe he is gonna show that video too! Damn - I sure wish I had the balls and the skills to even do the junior meet. I know it says all skill levels but I never even had a desire to swoop before last week and the weather has been crap since then. Though starting on Wednesday it looks sweet! I will be lurking and learning though.... and cheering!
-
I have only done one but it was AWESOME! I still need to do my 2-way for my D. I was gonna do it over labor day weekend but that whole accident thing kinda got in the way. You will really enjoy it if you try it. Just do the whole safety/training thing and no worries! Yippee! Fun. Next full moon I am there!
