yes! very. I've decided to compromise, I'm not going to horseshow this year as I have been in the last, but still ride a few times after work during the week. My weekends are generally 'horse free' so that's when I'm planning on jumping (weather pending). In a perfect world I'd like to do all my jumps on a saturday or sunday, but i'll just have to wait and see how it goes :)

Actually, I just made a list of things I can sell. I ride horses and have a lot of duplicate items that I'm going to get rid of for some cash. A few months ago I inquired about packing classes at my DZ, they said that you have to complete AFF BEFORE you take them, so that kind of rules out packing to pay for AFF. I've been pinching Every penny. I have enough in my savings to pay for it but I'd rather not Drain my account to do so just yet. Also going to try and pick up a few extra hours at the farm I help out at on the weekends.

Thanks everyone! I refuse to have a credit card, so i'll definitely be paying cash. My DZ allows you to pay per jump so that it's not one lump some, but I'd like to have enough to be able to pay it all at once so I don't have to wait too long in between jumps, plus I get paid every 2 weeks so that makes it a little harder. I was doing tandems to get myself a more comfortable and just being able to enjoy the ride! Which was a blast, but now I need to be a little smarter financially if I want to continue this! Great stories :-)

Hi everyone! Newbie here. I just did my third tandem last week because I'm totally hooked (my instructor let me do some turns, pull the ripcord, attempt to land-all making me realize that I want to do this Myself!), but I now realize that I should just start my AFF by now instead of spending all my $$ on tandems. How did YOU afford it? I'm in the process of paying off my student loans, rent, my car, normal bills, other hobbies, etc. Last night I litterly ate a can of green beans for dinner because "that money should go into the skydiving fund" haha.

I'm not sure if I trust myself enough yet... still just enjoying the ride!

Thanks! A friend of mine is doing her first tandem at STL today... soo of course I used that as an excsue to sign myself up for another tandem too

I received the "Skydiver's handbook" today! Thanks, it's great material, I can't put it down...

Take it all in! Enjoy the moment! I did my first tandem a few weeks ago.... now i'm totally hooked! Saving every dime I have so I can continue in this sport...

I'm in PA.. there's not really any wind tunnels that I know of within a few states unfortunately... From what I was told at the dz, the only difference (if I took AFP) was that I would have a few tandem's before I started the rest of the aff levels.. it appealed to me knowing that I would have an instructor with me while learning canopy control. How does it promote bad body position? (not arguing, just trying to understand since I know Nothing practically!)

well, except for when I finally do my first solo. -
Thanks everyone, I contacted my DZ, they told me that I can't take any packing courses until after I complete the AFP... so for now I'll just be doing lots of reading!
-
Thank you! I've already stopped all my meaningless spending, and if that means pb&j for awhile it's totally worth it!
-
Thank you! That's exactly what I was looking for. I ordered the book yesterday, and have been reading the links! Wasn't sure if it was o.k. to just hang around the DZ if i'm not actually enrolled in anything yet. But can't wait to start learning

Hello everyone! I made my first tandem last week (totally hooked!), and plan on taking an AFF course and getting certified when I save up a bit more. I REALLY want to learn everything I can about gear, but am not sure where to turn for the information. I've searched through posts and posts on the forum but most are too technical for me to grasp. Where could I turn for this kind of information? I'd like to learn the different kinds, how the rigs work, what does what, what causes what, the in's and the outs. Any help would be appreciated! Thank you

thank you!!! i'm doing another tandem in July... then if I learn to trust myself I'll sign up for my AFF

Had my first jump yesterday!!! (a tandem while on vacation n ocmd), I was right, I am officially addicted. The worst part was being in the plane, I couldn't wait to just get out of it!!! Thank goodness I was doing a tandem, I was so overwhelmed I never even let go of the harness to put my hands out. Most of it is such a blur! I am glad that this first jump I could just enjoy it and let the technicals be taken care of by someone else...

sooo.... I wasn't nervous.. until TODAY... this normal? thursday at 11:00... -
Melissa can find the ISP and AFF jump objectives in the Skydiver's Info Manual - CHapter 4 Free download at USPA http://www.uspa.org/USPAMembers/Downloads/tabid/84/Default.aspx DZ's might vary a bit from the curriculum there, so still it's best to drive 15 minutes and hang out and ask questions My first log book came today ... the best was when mom looked over "WHAT do you think you're going to be doing???"

Hello! I'm pretty much in your same position, I have two tandems coming up and am looking into taking an AFF course. Welcome :-)

Thanks everyone for the information! I am planning on going to the DZ, but just wanted enough information so that I would have a clue as to what to even Ask!
