  1. Ah school loans, they always get in the way!!! That and rent!!! I have about $28k left on my school loans, I had been over-paying since I graduated, then found out that I was paid ahead until next year-- so of course I took that as "do your aff and then go back to paying them in a few months"... haha so that's what I'm doing- and picked up some extra hours at my second job, along with eating canned green beans most nights for dinner, and taking cold showers and putting other hobbies on the back burner. So far my only gear investments have been goggles and i'm about to get a helmet and altimeter... Going to wait a year or so before I plunge for gear.
  2. Hi everyone!!! I completed my AFF today and then did my SOLO skydive. What an awesome day!!! It's been SUCH a crazy journey (well the Beginning of a journey!) can't wait to see what's to come... I have 18 jumps, just need 4 coach jumps, 2 hop and pops, and a check dive to get my A license.. so excited right now! Also, my father came and did his first tandem today and Loved it! Finally understands WHY i'm totally addicted.
  3. Pretty good! Level 7 and 8 left then I'll be cleared for solo :)
  4. Congrats!! Sounds like you're having a blast :)
  5. haven't got to jump since last saturday, but am ready for tomorrow!!! (level 7). On a side note, my Dad decided to do his first tandem jump tomorrow! It'll be kind of neat to be in the same plane
  6. I also have tried "desensitizing" my overloading myself with visuals and videos. It seemed to have helped me a little bit, also while home I lay there with my eyes closed visualizing Everything, even feeling how I feel when I walk up to the door, it really helps me mentally prepare. I have two aff jumps left, and each time I get a nervous a little bit later than the time before :)
  7. Hi everyone, newbie here. This past weekend while in the plane I saw someone with a small retractable inside their helmet, on the end of it was a cloth to clean goggles, he said it just retracts and stays in there when he's done. Anyone know what I'm talking about? I did a search but couldn't find anything.
  8. D2 and E1 (level 5 and 6) done today :-)
  9. I'm also a newbie! I was stuck on a category for awhile, and all I could think about was the negatives, I was beating myself up about it... It took me a few days to step back and just say to myself "Hey, I'm getting to jump out of a plane!!!! This is what I enjoy" and just start enjoying it, the good, the bad, and the ugly, it's all learning, enjoy :)
  10. Congratulations!!! That's awesome. Are you guys jumping this weekend? I'm a little freaked out about the next jump (d2)- only b/c of the solo exit.. I feel like it might take me So long to stabilize that i'll run out of time to do my turns then and have to repeat.
  11. I took the plunge and am now half way through my aff...well let me just say, I've NEVER been more broke, but I've also NEVER been this happy
  12. thanks for the motivation everyone! I went out this morning and passed my D1. NO spinning, and had controlled turns ... who knew that not trying so hard would help
  13. I did get to see this last jump on video, from what I saw, I LOOKED a lot stiffer than I felt (I felt calm and confused ha) that's for sure, a little ridgid looking. I'm definitely going to go home and try the floor/couch thing, I'll lay there all night until it feels natural! This will be my 3rd time on D1. (First time somehow had a bad exit w/ instructor and we both ended up a propeller on our backs--needless to say no time to work on what were supposed to), then this last time was when the spin happened... Maybe I was tense because of the previous jump?
  14. Ah yes I refer to it like that as well! I was so thrilled when I finally got through C, thought I had fixed all my spinning problems... then move on to D and they came back ugh. I'm so ready to get back up and conquer this. I'm going to really focus on making sure I'm not tensing up through my shoulder and arms, and to not Over-correct.
  15. Hey everyone, frustrated newbie here. I'm on level D1 of my AFF, which I'm stuck on now because the spin I thought I conquered in C is coming back. I've been listening to all my coaches and instructors (they are wonderful!) that have jumped with me (relax, arch, toe taps, deep breaths). And it seems just when I feel stable I start to spin, I correct it, start spinning the other way, correct, it, and by that time the freefall is over and I haven't gotten to work on the objectives. The closest wind tunnel is about 4 hours away, I will try and get there when the next group goes, but right now i'm just looking for some advice, sometimes if my brain hears the same thing maybe told a different way it'll just click.
  16. hey! yes, definitely had to arch more, and relax my upper back and arms. I passed C2 today! Then did D1, had an unstable exit the first time, instructor and I ended up a propeller on our backs for awhile. So tried D1 again, spent all of it trying to get stable... a little frustrating since earlier today I didn't really spin, but then I jump again and started to. Corrected it (a little over-corrected... spun the other way), got stable before pull time...SO frustrating. Had a nice stand up landing at least.
  17. just an update! I did cat C2 today (with one instructor), had a nice exit, and my first release.. and boy did I spin.. A few times I stopped it, a few times I stopped it then spun the other way, a few times my instructor stopped the spin for me, and for a brief period I was stable.. Needless to say, Repeat! I gained composure and pulled at proper altitude. Had a pretty good landing, a little more wind than I'm used to, and I jumped a 190 instead of a 200. Wind kept me grounded the rest of today, headed back in the morning to try again! I didn't "feel" tense, but I'm pretty sure that was the problem [I was told that everything appeared normal, arms, legs even] just have to control my heading and ARCH more. At one point I took a DEEP breath and felt myself sink right into stability. Now I'm determind to conquer this!!!
  18. Ugh, two days cloudy and rainy weather... waiting.. waiting.. waiting... Too much waiting is giving me that "I can't wait to get in the sky!! Wait... WTF am I doing"
  19. what do you mean you stopped turning by straightening your legs? Just curious, I thought they needed to be at about a 45 degree angle to complete the arch. ? I was turning because my knees weren't even (my legs were too bent, I had to continuously remember to keep them at the correct angle).
  20. Hey guys! Did category B and C today! B went great, had a PLF on the GRASS this time! Then went on to C, a slow right turn the whole time [it was because my legs kept creaping back then I'd have to remember to straighten them]. Had very Minor line twists and kicked right out of it. Everything else went really well. I had a SWEET stand up landing! Next jump: C2 with only One instructor.
  21. Yes, I had an instructor on the radio. It turned out I ended up in the wrong area because I wasn't letting "the canopy do it's thing", I had the toggles down a little [while in my head I swore they were all the way up ] No more butt slides for me!
  22. After waiting out the clouds ALL day, I got my jump in. Passed. LOVING life right now. Going tomorrow for the next two!!! My biggest fear ended up being my biggest problem - landing. I was a little lost up there, had a sliding butt landing in the wrong area of the dz, but no injuries. Everything else went well. Now thinking of everything I can sell so I can do the rest of them as soon as I can!!!
  23. Thanks guys! I'm excited. The weather looks a little iffy for Saturday, if ater ground school it's too rainy to jump do they jump the following day instead?
  24. Hey everyone! I signed up and am starting my AFF on Saturday! I've had 4 "working tandems"... I kept doing them until I got more comfortable being in the air, and I think I'm finally ready!!! Biggest fears: (1) knowing when to cut away and when to try and fix (2) landing (i'm much more a fan of freefall than the whole canopy thing). Hopefully I'll be able to get my first four jumps in within the month then save up a little and finish!
  25. I've been riding since I can remember.. it used to cost me a lot more than it does now (owning, showing, etc.etc), but currently I have a deal worked out where I help out around the farm and can ride for free, but I have to pay for one lesson a week. So in my case, horseback riding is nowhere near what it would cost to skydive.
