Beer has already been drank, he will get the bottle when I get my rig back. Life is short, eat more bacon, have more sex and jump anytime you can!!

Ok, so a couple of weeks ago I had my first cut-away. Nothing too scary, but it was the first jump on that rig, it's a used rig, but my first jump on it. Anyhow, seeing as it was my first jump I decided to do a solo and pull high. I pulled while stable at 6K and had a rather hard opening, nothing that left me with a headache but it was a shock. When I looked up to grab my toggles, i noticed that the right toggle wasn't there. Looking further up, the brake line had snapped just below the cascade. I though about attempting a rear-riser landing, but having never done one before, decided against it. I cut away at 4.5K and deployed reserve, landed uneventfully in exactly the spot that i originally intended to. Kept both handles though. As I said, this was my first jump and the DZ rigger had just inspected the whole thing and packed both main and reserve. Reason for this post... What could have caused that line to break? -I've heard body position, line wear and freak accident. Anybody else got any other ideas? Also, would any of you have done anything different? Anybody think that this might not be the greatest of ideas?

Toxic smoke and ground water contaimation is my major concern, I'm not all that worried about a huge explosion, it's just the HUGE possibily of the unkown and then once the house is burning they won't exactly be able to halt the process in a heartbeat. True, but rule number one with explosives is "PLANS CHANGE" and there doesn't seem to be a whole lot of room for error here. Life is short, eat more bacon, have more sex and jump anytime you can!! -

Authorities have discovered a house filled with explosive material and their solution to the disposal is.... BURN IT DOWN!!! Anybody think that this might not be the best idea in the world? Life is short, eat more bacon, have more sex and jump anytime you can!! -
Several rows of military medals, but the one that I'm most proud of is from high school, took silver in the state cross-country meet, ran 3.1 miles in 15:02 Life is short, eat more bacon, have more sex and jump anytime you can!!

I went down to Skydive Orange for a weekend and these guys treated me great. Granted the winds were so high that we only got one load up for the day and then on that one load I had a mal and had to cut away. As soon as I got down, there were people handing out radios and jumping into cars going to find my parachute. These were people that I'd never met before and had no expectation of their help. It was just freely offered. It got dark and we called off the search, but I spend the night there and had a few beers with them around the fire. First thing in the morning we found my chute. These guys are awesome and I'd recommend SkyDive Orange to anyone that is going to be in the area. YOU GUYS ROCK!!!

OK ya'll. Headed down to Orange tomorrow. What the outlook? It's getting chilly up here in Bethesda, cold weather gear needed? Gonna rent a car to get down there, anyone need a ride? Navy has got me put up in a hotel in Gaithersburg. Thanks to everybody for the advice...Next weekend headed to Delmarva. Life is short, eat more bacon, have more sex and jump anytime you can!!

Hey ya'll, Gonna be in the Bethesda, MD area for the next three weeks and would like to get some jumps in while there. I looked on the DZ locator and there are a few around but they claim to be a "Tamden Only" DZ. Any locals in the area know where the good ones are? Looks like I might have to drive a little distance but that's ok. Thanks ya'll Life is short, eat more bacon, have more sex and jump anytime you can!!

so the question remains.... "What missions would you have us pull units from?" Remember that one of the missions of the US Navy is to maintain the safety of the ocean trade routes. Then you have the dozen or so ships that are in the Carribean or Pacific off of Columbia, running down drug runners. Then you have the dozen or so that are guarding the oil platforms and the Straights of Hormuz, making sure that the oil still gets through. There there are another dozen or so down around the Horn of Africa chasing down pirates and maintaining that" freedom of navigation and trade." That's just three of the missions that the US Navy is engaged in on a daily basis, there are MANY others. SO, which one would you pull our forces away from? I'm all for helping out with the border security, but exactly what Navy elements would you have assist? Most ships are already spending 8-9 months out of the year at sea. You've got to allow some time to repair/upkeep the ships. What mission should we pull units away from in order to patrol costal waters? While I do not feel that actual military service should be required, I do feel that some sort of civil service should be required for everyone. Now, be that Peace Corps, national park service, military, fire/police service. I also feel that the time frame should be from high school graduation to the age of 22. College should come after service has been completed. To Lurch: The term "Freedom isn't free" is now and has always been true. Your specific example of the Native Americans is flawed in one aspect. Each and every male (and in many tribes, the females as well) stood ready and able to defend their people at a moment’s notice. Whether you reference the Blackfeet, the Comanche, Iroquois or any other tribe, their "freedom" was guaranteed by their force of arms. Our freedom is not given simply by the fact that we live on this piece of land, it is offered by the Constitution and that Constitution is enforced by our strength of arms to defend our land, people and beliefs from others. Without the military to enforce it, the Constitution isn't worth the paper that it is written on. Freedom is paid for in blood and has been since the beginning of time. In an ideal world, where everyone is able to "live and let live" your viewpoint would be completely valid. But the fact of the matter is that we don't live a utopian world and there are groups that are working to seek power for themselves and don't worry about who they have to kill/enslave/use to get it. If ignored long enough, those influences will eventually grow to affect us. Better to kill the tiger in the forest than to have to kill it in your yard. I thought this was going to be a "What's your best "Hold my beer and watch this" thread? I had a cup of coffee ready and was going to enjoy some laughs. Cool contraption though. Life is short, eat more bacon, have more sex and jump anytime you can!!

Yesterday I was one part of the base in a four way formation. My partner and I, both about 6' 200lbs, exited and the other two jumpers were supposed to dive down and make a BFR to begin the series. The base was stable and the small woman, approx 5'3", 110lbs came in and tried to dock, but seemed to be pushed away every time that she would approach. Anyhow, the formation never came to life and we broke away and all landed safe. After we got down, on of the other guys on the load, an experienced instructor, told us that the larger guys needed to de-arch when a smaller person is trying to dock. It was busy and I wasn't able to ask any further questions, so anyone got any comments on why? Life is short, eat more bacon, have more sex and jump anytime you can!!

Quote Ridiculous post! When was the last time you felt as compelled towards a human being? When was the last time that you had a human give the kind of love and devotion that a dog gives? Have you ever had a dog? The loss of a dog can't be explained, only experienced. Don't judge another's feelings, that is their experience. Not your's.
