  1. I use the glue pad in a top-mount configuration. All of my other cameras have been side mount, so the first time I stood up in the plane I knocked the thing out of the industrial velcro. Good thing I had it tethered, as I was able to snap it back on before getting to the door. The nice thing about the Contour is that the camera itself slides off the mount, so I superglued the top and bottom velcro pieces together to make the helmet mount permanent, then I just slide the camera on and off. It's been rock solid ever since, though I still use the tether just in case. I never have used a GoPro personally, but I'm currently using the 720p@60fps setting and am VERY pleased with the video quality.
  2. I went off of the Data Sheet since the manual, as you note, wasn't very informative. In that document it gives the update rate at 1Hz. I'll need to buy to verify it it, but my understanding based on the Camden site and the RC discussion board is that there are two models... the GT-730FL and the GT-730FL-S. The non-S model is a dongle that requires USB power. The S model has the internal battery see also here. I'm willing to spend $50 in the name of science. :)
  3. Sorry in advance if I'm repeating stuff already discussed in other threads. But I've done a bit more researching and, as it turns out, the RC aircraft crowd is also wayyyyy into GPS logging their flights. This thread was chock full of interesting info: RC GPS Discussion Following some leads in that thread I came across some Canmore units which caught my eye. The GT-730FL-S isn't 5Hz, but it definitely hits the mark in terms of size.
  4. You're right, my bad, I could have swore I read that it had a logging functionality but I don't see anything on the product page either.
  5. Just bumped into a writeup on the QStarz BT-Q818X. Looks to have the features people are looking for, and at a very reasonable price.
