Would you jump (and land!) a round?
eddytheeagle replied to eddytheeagle's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Well, its very good for spotting skills -
I think this configuration exists, and it goes under the name of a pull-out with inverted pilot. I don't have experience with either type of pull-out, so this is all I can say. Don't underestimate your ability to screw up!

Would you jump (and land!) a round?
eddytheeagle replied to eddytheeagle's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Some time ago, I jumped a 'Para-Commander' (see attachments for pics). I wanted to do this for quite a while, but most people said I was crazy and risking my legs. Fewer said they might try after I did it. Luckily, I got the chance to jump a PC (they seem to become rare). Of course, jumping older gear needs some extra attention; we hooked it up to a student rig, so the emergency procedures would be the same. The jump was gorgeous with a smooth, soft opening. The decent really nice and silent, and landing on the DZ no problem at all in the light winds. Even the landing was good, a bit harder than normal, but a good PLF does the trick -
He, Cool man! Glad you enjoyed it (though nobody here had any doubts about that!). And guess what? It's only gonna be more fun in the future

I don't think SL is outdated. For some, AFF works better, for others SL. The point is that nearly all skydivers meet some problems along the way in either method, so don't get dissapointed to quickly! Having video really helps a lot in correcting the problem, as you see what went wrong. Of course, after a couple of seconds, it gets really hard to see what somebody does wrong, so video might not be that helpful in this particular case Now with aff, this problem doesn't occur, but having a video is much more expensive Succes (relax!), and don't forget to enjoy your jumps! Don't underestimate your ability to screw up!

This might be a stupid question, but I'm new to both these forums and the WFFC. What is the tent for? Load-organizing, or a good place to hang out for a while after some more fantastic jumps? This year will be my first WFFC, and I live only 10 miles from Rantoul, a bit closer than Europe

Most important things have been said already, but I would like to make two comments. If you're looking for a second hand container (like I did), make sure it fits really comfortable, you'll be wearing it every jump! When you try one, try it with the main and reserve, as these can change the fit quite a bit. With regard to the AAD, it might be required to have one in Germany, also if you're off student status. In the Netherlands, you need the equivalent of a D to be able to jump without one. A local instructor can tell you all about the rules. Good luck! Don't underestimate your ability to screw up!

I've been following this thread, and I want to throw my 2 pennies in. I completely agree with the statements that the cypres is a great device, and that most cypres fires are caused by stupid mistakes/people screwing up in a serious manner. Nowadays, there's a lot of people around in skydiving who never jumped without a cypres (at some DZs in Europe having an AAD is compulsory for everybody), and they might feel more comfortable having one in their rig. So I do understand if people say they don't want to jump without one. It doesn't imply that they think they won't be able to cope with the problems they could have during a jump. If they would feel that way, they definately shouldn't jump. But, as said before, people do screw up. EVERYBODY can screw up. Having a cypres for that reason makes sense. So, Ron, if you screw up (which I hope you'll never do) and your cypres saves your ass, do you quit jumping? I would. Don't underestimate your ability to screw up!

Hi Amir! The only picture I saw was of the cut in back pad of the new Talon FS, in 'Skydiving'. Maybe you can find some more info on http://www.rigginginnovations.com Enjoy your new rig! Don't underestimate your ability to screw up!

The key word in this tread has been: relax. This is true of course, but, having done a couple of jumps 'which went not according plan', this is also a very hard thing to do! I had problems going from static line w/ dummies to freefall. I was doing all kinds of freefly manouvers when I was supposed to do a C&P. Once under canopy, I enjoyed every moment, and that's why I kept going to the DZ: it's so much fun. So, if something doesn't work the first time, keep on trying, and don't forget to enjoy your jumps

The best jump plane? -the operators view
eddytheeagle replied to MikeeB's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I also love porters, great big sliding door, climbs fast. Expensive in maintenance though. In France, you see them on nearly ever DZ, and of course Switserland, where they're build. If you want to now more about this plane, you have to check out this great site: http://www.pc-6.com Don't underestimate your ability to screw up! -
I use the sky-system goggles (with the tube-stow material) over my glasses. This combination works fine for me (see picture to the left). I ordered a full-face helmet, and the only one which fitted over my glasses was the oxygen, the z1 really didn't work (for me!). So the best way to go is: try before you buy! Don't underestimate your ability to screw up!

I had the same experiance, when I had my reserve ride (to early in my carreer). Glad that you're under a open canopy, and the surprize that you still have your handles. In stressfull moments, people tend to hold on to the things they grab Don't underestimate your ability to screw up!

So, to avoid the feeling that something is missing in the future, I'd better do my first post on DZ.com in this forum Hi, I'm Eddy, a dutch guy linving in Urbana, IL. I recently started to read these fora, and learned a lot already. To bad I only started doing this after 4 1/2 years of skydiving. You can expect to hear (sensible things ??) from me in the future! Blue skies, Eddy Don't underestimate your ability to screw up!
