I have to agree with Albatross, being that I worked at the police dept for four years, and actually was hired on as an officer later, but ended up turning it down. There are most definately the 'bad eggs' who handle everything improperly, and those that get the 'cop attitude' .. usually the 'rookies', but really, most of them are good people. They *do* take a lot of crap from everyone because they are limited to what they can/can't do under the law, and they also get frustrated by it. They get more frustrated by judges that let off the people with a slap on the hand that they brought in. The list could go on and on about what they have to deal with, which is why so many get burnt out after a while. So yeah, I guess I like them for the most part :) They are just people doing a tough job. Now, Merrick might disagree with me by the looks of his driving record...hehe. Thanks guys :) Nope, no unemployment regardless...I was a 'permanent temp' ...mm hmmm. They 'couldn't get permission to hire me on directly', though they promised it upon my hire. So oh well. First job I've ever quit without it being to go somewhere better/more money/whatever. Now I too am officially unemployeed. I told the boss to f*** off today. They were wanting me to do my old job (ya know, the one they gave to someone else) plus my new one cuz she's not cutting it and needs help...for the same pay of course. They did Sis...I'm now working in a different area, same company tho. I work in the storage room unpacking/shipping/moving/whatever computer hardware. Good lord I'm out-of-shape! At least I'm not as sore from all the lifting as I was at first :) I told them to kiss off yesterday, though, if they expected me to do the gal who took my job's work. She is falling behind and big boss suggested I come help her. I told them they got rid of me in that job, deal with it...I wasn't doing both. Anyway..my immediate boss is cool though. Shit, I haven't even gotten my parents to come watch me jump yet :/ They'd just flip out at all the sitting around anyway. If they did show up, it wouldn't change my actions tho...they know what/who I am :) They've even seen me sloppy drunk, although I was a teenager at the time

Hey girl! Very cool! Did you go with the gold one? It will be kinda red and sore for a while...like the others said...it takes quite a while to heal. They say a healthy diet and as little stress as possible helps the healing process. I was told by the piercer, as was Merrick when he got his nipples done, to use sea salt (you can get it at a health food store) and warm water. For my belly, I just bent over, stuck the cup of water/salt against my belly over my navel, then held it tight as I layed down on the couch. Reverse to get it back off without spilling it :) Hemp/skydiving jewelry pics!

I heard a story at work today of some people (friends of my new boss) that almost got taken out while on the highway...seconds from it...just goes to show we never can be totally safe unless we're in a bubble. Thanks to those of you for all your advice and thoughts on the other thread where I was 'wiggin' a bit after seeing a friend get hurt. As an update, our friend Charlie is doing great! His new nickname is Gumby, as he's apparently rubber or some other type of material. He is coming away from his accident with just tissue damage and a dislocated ankle!! He will be okay :) Merrick and I got back in the air on Saturday. He's back to his standup landings and did great! We went back down Sunday as we'd promised our daughter because she was supposed to help fly a plane that day, not knowing if we'd jump or not because of what'd happened and the pilot of the day. But we got there, and immediately got asked if we could fill the load as we were walking in the door (they had a Caravan...a rare occurance). Um, okay. It was great, no time to think. Then another fellow skydiver also landed without a flare! Luckily she is just off student status and had a large enough canopy she wasn't hurt badly. She will be very, very sore tomorrow tho. I got back up for one more jump then called it a day (back is killing me...had an opening so hard that it almost ripped my helmet off!). Thank you guys so much for your notes and thoughts. You don't know how much I appreciate it. Even as I stood there, feeling helpless, he kept saying how mad he was that he'd 'screwed up'. Another jumper was flying the other direction with completely no winds, right at dusk, and I believe he thought he'd been cut off. Still, as I was told by others, he simply fu**** up by not flaring at all. Only he knows the whole story why, of course. I was very glad we had an paramedic jumper there (first time he'd been back in a while also) that was a great help. The DZO was fabulous and amazing. When we left the hospital he was going to be flown to Tulsa, but when we called back from home, they said he was going to stay at least overnight and a specialist was being called in today. The DZO said he must've been made of rubber because he might have actually only dislocated his leg and may be okay! I don't know what I'm going to do. I want to keep jumping. The kids were there also at the DZ, along with a friends' kids. Only one was outside when it happened, and I don't think she saw it, but I shoo'd her inside so as not to hear him. They all seem to be taking it very well. I feel a little better this morning and in my heart I want to keep jumping. I probably will. The thing that worries me, I guess, is that we all fuck up sometime. A little or a lot, I have already, luckily a little. As Bill said, sometimes we are simply lucky. It just worries me that I might be the 'big fuck-up' at some point. Something to think about, but as Merrick said too as we watched a car pull out to pass moments before another car came, things like THAT can also happen...not jumping doesn't necessarily make you safe of course. I know, all the old arguments just being brought back up. They were just all brought back up in my head and I wanted to get the perspective of others'. Thank you guys again. ....that you will see someone burn in. I hope and pray that what I saw today doesn't end in losing another skydiver. We don't know right now. A good friend of ours failed to flare, at all. Right now we know that his pelvis, back and leg are broken. They were flying him to Tulsa when we brought the kids home, but that doesn't necessarily mean he won't make it as Cushing is so small they send them out over smaller things. Pray for him guys, please. What I keep asking myself, after seeing this, do I want to keep jumping? We all know this can happen, and does, but seeing it makes it all so REAL.
