  1. it was described as a "turkey shoot" by a politician here, because according to him a war is between 2 armed countries Experienced jumper - someone who has made mistakes more often than I have and lived.
  2. Perhaps the french might just be cursing the ppl who ignored their veto? Just a thought no war and this event wouldn't have happened. Experienced jumper - someone who has made mistakes more often than I have and lived.
  3. I think ppl who are in a position to catch a virus might not know how to check their IP address? Linux is great - best anti-virus tool I've got Experienced jumper - someone who has made mistakes more often than I have and lived.
  4. To be clear - the brits made mistakes in NI, and I have been trying to portray more than anything a difference of approach and greater level of experience that they have than the US. To be clear I am NOT british so its not a personal interest issue. Bill kind of summed up in 1 paragraph what I've been trying to say. 5. I agree, but where does it stop. A pineapple in a kids hand looks like a grenade so blow him away to? The Iraqi resistance isn't wearing uniform so shoot all men between 15 and 65? I will grant you this it must be bloody difficult. Experienced jumper - someone who has made mistakes more often than I have and lived.
  6. I think that journalists are idiots for dressing up in camo and running around amongst bullets for "news" back home. However if the general attitude genuinely is that a US soldiers life is worth more than a civilian then I think the US is in Iraq for a long time, as the I can quite see the Iraqi's getting severely pissed off and there being more and not less attacks. 7. Ok firstly no you don't offend me. 2nd I wasn't very clear. The in war you try and avoid civilian casualties, and I understand that it is SUPPOSSED to be that a civilians life is MORE important than a soldiers. So to G Sanchez is an Iraq soldiers life more important than one of his guys no - in fact 10000 iraqi soldiers are worth one of his. However the life of a civilian should be bloody near equal that of a US soldier in the war zone. The US portrays an image that this is not the case in alot of circumstances, it may not be true but it appears that its shoot first think later. 8. Technically "returning fire" is just that. It means that somebody initiated an attack and you retaliate. I don't expect that you sit and wait until you have been shot at before you take action - but I would not classify that as returning fire. probably, but it does not stop me analysing what the guys are doing against other soldiers (BTW I am not a Brit, although I do use them for most comparisons). 9. I really disagree, on this. First he wasn't "returning fire" (Ok I know what you mean't though). Strategy takes reading in the surroundings and not viewing events through a narrow periscope view. Like it is said about skydiving accidents - it is the CHAIN of events that leads to the incident. So a well trained soldier SHOULD have the ability to recognise the events leading to a fire fight. Ok so I was not there and maybe all the indicators of a fire fight were there, I doubt it though. 10. Sorry I just can't buy the argument of thinking of the guy who shot him. Tough shit and he should be hauled infront of a military tribunal. Ok so you can confuse a camera for a missile launcher, BUT I do believe that decent training and forsight would highlight alot of differences between the circumstantial evidence at the time. A soldier (sorry can't call him a terrorist while we are technically still at war), would probably have a very different strategy and or position to a journalist, something that a trained soldier should be able to read and think twice about. It's like good analysists or engineers its often the subtle details that make something definitive to the trained eye. 11. I think you have to put it in perspective. The US is being heavily critised for being far to trigger happy. The BBC reported a few weeks back that they General Sanchez had issued a command to take a "softly softly" aproach. Well reading between the lines that reads that a US soldier's life is worth more than an Iraqi citizen prior to that mandate and shoot first and think second. The Brits appear to be handling the situation much better, maybe Northern Ireland experience is helping them? The whole thing is a mess and its going to get worse and drag on. I guess fate has a way on turning on people that use lies and distortions to create wars (follow the Hutton Inquiry for details) Experienced jumper - someone who has made mistakes more often than I have and lived.

Ok long break my time zone is out of sync with you guys. In essence it was the principle of commune type environment. More or less long term commitments, not "swinging" where the sole purpose appears to be sex (I am an outsider on this so that might be false). Divorce is a complex issue and not something that I have ever thought about - especially not in this context. I realise that it works in Islamic countries where the woman have no rights, but obviously that doesn't apply in the west. I think that the western world focuses on it purely as a sexual relationship and kind of pictures permanent orgies. I think that the reality of it is more likely a combi of relationships, and supporting each other. Speculation would domestic violence go up or down - I believe down. Would violent child abuse decrease, possibly if vulnerable stressed mothers had people to support them. I am not suggesting violence reduction as a motive for polygammy. Thats actually where I stand on the issue (just about cope with 1). But still believe that there is nothing WRONG with more than 1 and technically against the RIGHTS of adults to prohibit it if they do want to. Experienced jumper - someone who has made mistakes more often than I have and lived.

I mean married - or long term/permanent relationship. Not swinging. Experienced jumper - someone who has made mistakes more often than I have and lived.

OK - no it would not be - essentially the modern world accepts "serial polygammy" i.e people have relationships and then move on. Polygammy actually advocates long term relationships - which is deemed to be good. Lastly sex drive - don't really know just repeating common statements gripes by most married men! I would really like to find out how it works in practice in Africa/Asia as I really piss my family (and wife) off with my views - not that I believe its worth the extra in-laws mind you Experienced jumper - someone who has made mistakes more often than I have and lived.

Well in principle I personally do not have objections. The physiology might get interesting considering in general men are "suppossed" to have a higher sex drive than women. So it kind of works better in the usual context - everones happy! The women get a break and the guy has fun. In answer to other posts - its not really the same subject having 28 kids as polygammy and 7 wives not working. Howabout people like my wife who get stuck at home looking after kids and want to work - why couldn't she work and the "other" wife look after the kids? If you got the balance right society would have more capacity not less Experienced jumper - someone who has made mistakes more often than I have and lived.
  19. I realise it wasn't of the channel crossing and I was commenting on the fact that the "freefall" kind of goes on until the ground!! I know the video cuts to an opening - but hey I've got editing software too Experienced jumper - someone who has made mistakes more often than I have and lived.

Ok - so I have some contraversial beliefs on this subject (to my wife anyway). But was wondering on general feeling and opinion. So my viewpoint - I do not believe that the christian religion as based on the bible outlaws it - infact most famous characters had at least 1 wife - upto about 700 for Solomon. The modern church uses out of context quotes about a priest should have only 1 etc. I reckon athiests should have no problem with the concept as I really can't see a moral "no" to this and as to other religions I do not know. So the practical side - I realise that in the west most men see it as a permanent orgy, but I think there are more practical reasons. Will expand when I've done some work Experienced jumper - someone who has made mistakes more often than I have and lived.
  21. Its Win 2k and its not under the add/remove programs. I managed to use a registry cleaner to clean it out about 2 minutes ago There were actuall DLL's put under windows directory by the shit. Now that's why I use Linux at home Experienced jumper - someone who has made mistakes more often than I have and lived.

  23. Ok I have a problem - last night I worked late and got a little bored needed a break. So I jumped to a link from a spam mail. Now my IE has a stupid toolbar "Adult links" so I can turn it off but not get rid of it. Does anyone know how to. I am not talking about the normal "links" toolbar - which was also populated with crap. Experienced jumper - someone who has made mistakes more often than I have and lived.
  24. This all got me thinking - just went to the website of his and downloaded the video of the "delta wing" test flights. I am no longer a current skydiver but it sure as heck doesn't look to be a realist altitude when the video of the smoke trail terminates? It seems to me that the smoke trail - goes in - and the video jumps to an open canopy - no deployment at that I could see at all? 25. The BBC news coverage was interesting. For a start some comments "He skydived across the channel AT 30k" - i.e implying horizontal flight. "He jumped from 30k however his feats are normally performed from GREATER heights" - and then mentions 100ft base jump as the GREATER heights - That said I believe it did skydiving a great service it was fully on BBC radio news main bulletin points for more than 24 hrs - no promotion of death and danger - just the feat itself. Its not often skydiving gets such publicity in a positive light for the fun it is not just implying suicidal drug addicts.
