  1. That is really sad. Sounds like he remembered to turn his camera on, but forgot his pax. Experienced jumper - someone who has made mistakes more often than I have and lived.
  2. Thanks ,it is one reason I like my teardrop. I am back to jumping 182 type aircraft and the door is full of potential snags - but I love flying in small planes so its not a problem. A guy at work flies for fun and our chat turned to what can go wrong hence the picture request. Experienced jumper - someone who has made mistakes more often than I have and lived.
  3. Thanks thats the one. Experienced jumper - someone who has made mistakes more often than I have and lived.
  4. Does anyone have an electronic copy of the picture that is in Dan Poynter's book of a Cessna where a person was pulled through the side? Thanks, Nigel Experienced jumper - someone who has made mistakes more often than I have and lived.
  5. I would suggest a tandem first. Most tandem students have no intention of ever jumping on their own. This means that often tandem instructors focus on the fun and don't spend much time teaching. Make sure that you make it clear you intend to do AFF. Ask if you can deploy the parachute. Most importantly ask the tandem instructor to show you how to fly the parachute, turns, flaring and the proper landing pattern. The canopy flight is the one area where in AFF you won't have anyone to help (although you will be taught what you need to know). 6. Funny I really don't like the plastic cylinders. I've never had a problem, but they always worry me that a finger could get trapped in it. Other than that you're right, better finding any problems on the ground or plane than in freefall. Experienced jumper - someone who has made mistakes more often than I have and lived.

    Marmite

Pretty much the same thing, but with a different recipe. I don't think vegemite is as sharp or strong. Vegemite is Australian. Experienced jumper - someone who has made mistakes more often than I have and lived.

    Marmite

It is from the UK. It is black and very thick with consistency of smooth peanut butter. It is very salty and the closest I could descibe the taste is if you've ever tasted very burnt roast vegetables The advertising campaign was love it or hate it. I like the stuff. Marmite

you need 2 separate polls, Marmite and Vegemite taste nothing like each other True, I am starting to miss marmite. A while ago I took a little bottle of the stuff over for popsjumper (couldn't think of any other signature UK product not easily available in the US) he hated it Experienced jumper - someone who has made mistakes more often than I have and lived.

    Marmite

Opinions on Marmite or its ozzie cousin vegemite? It's not something that you can be neutral about. Experienced jumper - someone who has made mistakes more often than I have and lived.
  11. We're currently gettting a month's worth of rain over a few days To those asking for updates: Teach a man to fish Damn - just after I leave the UK. I lived 10 miles from Henley. There's not much open space around there though - unless farmers fields count. There is a small airpstrip near the M4 junction 8/9 is that where he plans on landing? 12. Oh crap, I thought my dad was the only person who thought his round tuit joke was funny You couldn't count the times he's offered to give one. Experienced jumper - someone who has made mistakes more often than I have and lived.
  13. If going to terminal I always wear a jumpsuit. On hop and pops I will wear jeans and a t-shirt on occasion. Jumpsuits provide 2 valuable functions. Firstly they don't blow up and cover your handles, secondly they help if you don't land well. Another consideration is that at this stage of my jumping consistency is important. Sticking with my jumpsuit eliminates a variable on freefall speeds. Experienced jumper - someone who has made mistakes more often than I have and lived.
  14. I've seen stupider stuff. I think a good skill set in our sport is learning how to get your rig checked and on your bod quickly, because there will be days when you are rushed (esp. if you ever get a damn instructor's rating.). Why wasn't the BOC packed already? Was your AAD on? And I feel it only takes seconds to check the pins and 3 rings. I hope you just ignore the yelling long enough to do that next time. Staying in the plane if you can't get 3500? I hope those women won't mind me crawling out over them. Thanks for posting this.

You missed the point Andy. This is bonfire and Skymama/skydiver territory. A bunch of people standing around cheering while someone in a hood canes a couple? Tell me that doesn't sound like something that could happen at a dz? Experienced jumper - someone who has made mistakes more often than I have and lived.
  16. By definition you are not 'heads up' if you do something that stupid. You may be experienced, even someone who is conservative and cautious, but that does not make you heads up. Complacency kills and ANY skydiver who has died or had a cypress fire while waiting for the beep is not heads up, they are either incompetent or complacent. As far as the model goes, I wouldn't blame a person unfamiliar with aircraft for a screw up like that. People mentioned earlier in the thread about static line students being different to a tandem student. A tandem student may have been on a small airport or dropzone for 30 minutes before boarding, a SL student should have had considerably more exposure. I think the same is true for passenger joy rides. Most passengers are ignorant thereby placing them into the incompetent bracket. The pilot should take responsibility for their safety. Thanks Jerry, not sure what I did there to screw it up. Experienced jumper - someone who has made mistakes more often than I have and lived.
  18. No probs...... I doubt if there are many instructors anywhere who would act the Sgt Major with students. . you would be VERY wrong then. Seen it 1st hand and dont visit that DZ anymore. That wouldn't be because the Sgt Major marched you off would it? We had a couple back when I first started jumping in Zimbabwe. But they were ex military men who hadn't really understood the difference between army recruits and people paying them to learn. 22. Yip AAD on. And yeah I've got the choice between being on the plane with you at York or a couple of hotties - no contest sorry (We're planning on coming out to York next time Bruce jumps). Experienced jumper - someone who has made mistakes more often than I have and lived.
  23. Yip, the chicken had 20 feet to spare. Experienced jumper - someone who has made mistakes more often than I have and lived.
  24. A Viso won't do much for you in your helmet. Smart ass. If I want a digital alti for canopy stuff I wear it on my wrist, otherwise it's in my helmet logging jumps Experienced jumper - someone who has made mistakes more often than I have and lived.
  25. 3.5 should not be seen as a low exit. I've got no problem doing a hop and pop from 3k and up. Those were the terms told to me by the staff member on board. Experienced jumper - someone who has made mistakes more often than I have and lived.
