You did get the bits about sauna and vodka and some other stuff right... The really winter is a bummer here if you're not into skiing, snowboarding or skating... I'm not.
-
You can get started here ...and when you're done, I suggest a google search with search words like "html" and "tutorial". You'll find TONS of stuff... Erno

There's little need for that in Finland. We are civilized people. One rarely sees a situation here that would require intervention by the gglf.

>How dare you turn this thread into serious discussion??? I beg forgiveness! I slipped just a bit and that made Quade ask a serious question and I just had to answer... I'm sorry... Back to business: >What color Jansport do you have? Mine is sort of a burgundy, with the leather >bottom. I figured the leather would be good if I didn't have a stand-up landing. I have a blue and white Nike. I haven't jumped it yet though. I don't know how to attach the canopy to the backpack. I heard that metal connectors can bend, so I figured I'd make slinks from my shoelaces: But is the round type(from my hiking boots) or the flat type(from my sneakers) better?

>"Skydiving Magazine" just ran an article about Marta doing a Monkey Flip >off some rocks in Moab Doing a what? Is that the same as a McConkey? That's precisely the point: The pioneers in the beginning of the 80s defined that the rig had to be packed for it to count as a BASE jump, so that kiting off objects wouldn't count. Since that's, well, paragliding. But now that people are doing McConkeys(hanging the open parachute off the object in front of you), there was a discussion on Blinc about the definition of a BASE-jump, and some people said that since a McConkey is a BASE jump, an unpacked but uninflated parachute is ok to qualify for a BASE jump. How 'bout a paratrooper GI Joe?
-
>i used the jansport because it has a lifetime garuntee and i dont want to die >just because i jumped with a crappy backpack. Yeah, it's best to stick with gear from the big name manufacturers. Did you use nylon or hemp ropes?
-
>If I made a building jump when I was say, 10 -- does that count toward by >BASE number? Sure, if you used a packed(or at the minimum uninflated) parachute to save our life. No wait-- this wasn't a serious thread... Yeah it would! I was sitting on this rock, and I fell off, so I have my E, right?

Dude, lay off the HMA ropes, I hear they can snap without warning!

Just a WAG but I would imagine it isn't exactly cheap to keep a team on standby to do a stunt like that...

Stilleto(spineto) or Springo
ernokaikkonen replied to fedykin's topic in Swooping and Canopy Control
I've jumped both a Stiletto135 and a Springo140. They are two completely different canopies. Stiletto is much more prone to line-twists on opening. It's just the way the canopy is designed. Many Stiletto-pilots will say that they've never had problems, but it _is_ easier to get twists on a Stiletto than on a Springo. The feel of the flare is also totally different. To someone used to the "PD-style" flare, the Springo might first seem like a really bad canopy, but it's not. It just requires a different approach. I've only jumped a few jumps on a Springo, so I didn't get the most out of it. Erno -
>>Not even a snow balls chance in hell. >> >So you're saying there's a chance? (what movie was that from??) > -"So, what are the chances of a girl like you and a guy like me getting together?" -"Umm.. like... one in a million?" -"So you're saying there is a chance? YES!" Or something like that. Jim Carrey in "Dumb and dumber" Erno

In my club, we have a billing system. You jump as much as you do, and on "regular" intervals, you'll get a bill sent home. Now, as much fun this is, there are drawbacks. I just got my bill, and I had to pay 535€. I'd also have have a two month rent deposit handy by the end of the month. D'oh! Erno

>>come to where the sun is >> > >and bring your women!!! No no no. You've got it all backwards. We'll come there, and then we'll take your women, and go back home. And we'll only take the pretty ones, too. Erno

>Yeah, but they have the beautiful fjords and those scandinavian women to >keep them warm when it is cold out. It's all relative.... Actually, they only have fjords in Norway. And techically Finland isn't part of Scandinavia, but a larger entity known as Fenno-scandia. (=Scandinavia+Finland) Jesus. Am I bored or what?

Being grounded is relative... I've jumped in February when it was -25 degrees C(-13F) on the ground... Erno

Browsing through the thread, a question emerged: Are there no regulations concerning wind speeds? Looks like a definite "no" in the US, how about the rest of the world? In Finland: -students may not jump if the winds are above 7m/s(~16mph) -licensed jumpers with less than 100 jumps may not jump at over 8m/s(~18mph) winds -no-one gets to jump if the winds exceed 10m/s(~22mph) Erno

>YOU KNOW YOU'RE AN OLD-TIME SKYDIVER WHEN: >(...) >You know what a "jesus string" is. I'm obviously not an old-time skydiver. This has bugged me forever. Could you explain what it is? Erno

>My brother has a new wings container(very nice rig) but I was constantly >tucking the tabs back in for him on just about every jump. Does anyone >have an idea as to why this is a problem on his rig? That's a common problem with almost any rig. It is often(but not always) caused by a sloppy reserve packjob. If the rigger packs too much material to the "ears" of the freebag, it causes a bulge, thus making it difficult for the riser flaps to keep closed. Erno

No no no. You've completely missed the point. The purpose of the "Suggestions and feedback" forum is to give us geeks a place to discuss such worthy topics as: -the fine points of css(this thread) -efficient vs. inefficient code -camouflaging the forums to look like a spreadsheet Erno

And now it got the attachment... Oh well.
-
What browser is that?? What OS? Opera 6.05 on Win98 renders the html and css as it is supposed to, as seen in my attachment. Screw it, I don't seem to be able to upload anything right now. Anyway, the css strips the underlines from links, so on browsers that render the pages as they should, the point is moot. Erno

landing a birdman suit.. it IS doable..?
ernokaikkonen replied to kevin922's topic in Wing Suit Flying
Info on the "rocket car legend". And an article, allegedly by the guy who started the legend. > Kinda like a cross between a birdman and a rocketman. Jari Kuosma has actually been toying with the idea of equipping a birdman with RC-model jet-engines... Or at least that what I heard. Erno -
Yeah, and now it says: "FARK.COM database is down. (We spilled beer on the server again.) Check back later!"
