Looking for knowledge on Pilot/Pulse/Safire2
Psychonaut replied to Psychonaut's topic in Gear and Rigging
Right right, I'm still trying to figure out the best 'plan of attack' when it comes to the recovery arc of each canopy. Do you have any literature on why a longer one is safer? I always thought shorter would be safer for the time being just so I don't drive my ass into the dirt, but then again it could be dangerous to learn on a short recovery and then when I switch to a new canopy with a longer arc be SOL.. Daniel I apprecite your replies. But, I'm not looking for approval from anyone. I know what sizes I can jump and what canopies; I've been working with an instructor this entire season knowing that by the end I'd need something new. So, I didn't post trying to find that one reply making it 'okay' and that's my approval.. I posted for factual first hand information on how these different canopies act! As far as landings I am currently only doing 90's or less on the fronts.. For the time being I do appreciate a smaller recovery arc as I'm just beginning these landing approaches. Looking for knowledge on Pilot/Pulse/Safire2
Psychonaut replied to Psychonaut's topic in Gear and Rigging
Not to start anything (so don't!) but that's one thing I dislike here, many people judge things soley on jump numbers. That doesn't mean I'm hiding double digits, but I can also admit I have no more than 200. I post here looking for factual, first hand information people can give me about the canopy them self. Like you have, with recovery arc, and awesome information with different wing loadings. I'm working with someone on this, and of COURSE am going to demo the shit out of all these canopies.. Oh and of course everyone gasps when they see a canopy smaller than 150, breaking that "HP barrier" but then again my case is unique due to my weight. I'm not 200lbs out the door with 30 jumps looking to buy a 135 ellip. Stay high pull low -

What about it in general or compared to the sabre2 didn't you like? Stay high pull low -

I definitely will. The one thing I dislike about the Pulse is that it's so new that there aren't many used ones for sale floating around! Stay high pull low -
Sit down with someone who can show you the ins and outs of your gear entirely. Once you understand everything, you will be incredibly more safe and you'll feel the same way too. Not to mention, the RSL system isn't that complex, once you figure it out you'll be golden. Stay high pull low

Yeah, I talked to someone credible that mentioned a Pilot 150 would pack something like a 160 or so.. either way it packs larger, right? So I didn't know if for example say it packs like a 160, would ZPx only bring it back down to a normal 150 or something smaller in addition? I'm pretty set on the Safire2, I love what I've heard and read about it. So when I demo it I'll probably be putting an order in the same day Stay high pull low -

But the ZP Pilot already packs larger, so does ZPx only bring it back down to a normal size? Stay high pull low -

Not sure how many are near Dekalb (60115) but the Target has an open box CX100 for $349 Stay high pull low

Burner and his workers are some of the nicest people you'll meet. I had a great experience with them there in Eloy. They pick you up, drive you back, etc.. Edit: I'm referring to high but dry btw Stay high pull low

Psychonaut replied to Psychonaut's topic in Gear and Rigging
What..? I follow you completely. I suppose what I was looking for here online was a loose order of which canopies perform a little more HP than others; but I suppose in the end I'd like to demo them all so it doesn't matter which I demo first, etc.. Thanks for the input guys Stay high pull low -

But if I wouldn't know the difference between a 135 and a 140, the difference between a 140 and 150 can't be too much more significant especially concerning my WL? I know sub 150 is considered HP no matter what, but that's just looking at numbers at not looking at specific cases ya know? Stay high pull low -

Psychonaut replied to Psychonaut's topic in Gear and Rigging
Yeah, I wouldn't think about a 135 for quite a while. And besides that, a Safire2 139 or Pilot 140 will be my bottom line here for the near future, depending on how demoing goes of course. Thanks again guys! Stay high pull low -

Psychonaut replied to Psychonaut's topic in Gear and Rigging
Yep, but after demoing the Pilot 150 and feeling the significantly greater response and whatnot, I almost hate my canopy :( Like said I just need to demo demo demo. I want to try the safire2 and pilot at the 140 size, dropping to anything 135 will have to wait and will depend on the 140's, even though a 135 is still only 1.1 Stay high pull low -

Psychonaut replied to Psychonaut's topic in Gear and Rigging
Right, demoing is the best way but now that I'm back from Az in this single digit weather of the midwest I have to wait until March/April :( Dragon are you saying the Sabre2 and Fusion are more HP than all the others we're talking about? The dilemma I'm faced with is something like this; a 140'ish canopy seems to be best fit for me right now, depending on the actual canopy itself of course, as a 150 is fine but I have more room. However the problem is that most companies go from 150 to 135, and I'm not sure at the moment if I can make that jump.. I think the next thing on my list is to demo a safire2 149 and/or 139 and take things from there. Stay high pull low -

Awesome thanks. What are you loading your safire2 at? Just not sure if you've flown one at a lower wl or if you're loading it heavier than I will be. Stay high pull low -
Looking for knowledge on Pilot/Pulse/Safire2
Psychonaut replied to Psychonaut's topic in Gear and Rigging
I'm in the market for a new canopy sometime this upcoming season. I've been jumping a square 155, and just recently demoed a Pilot 150. The pilot was awesome, I loved it as it was significantly more responsive that my main I've had. What I have my eyes on are the Pilot 140, Pulse 150 (possibly the 135 but doubtful) and the Safire2 149 (again, possibly 139). Out the door I'm only 150, so I've always been flying right at a 1:1. Like I said the Pilot 150 was more responsive, but I feel like I have an absence of extra control and input since I'm not at a greater WL, not even 1.1. This is why I would consider the Pilot 140 or Safire2 139; the Pulse 135 would have to wait. Is anybody able to comment on how these canopies are relative to eachother? 150vs150vs149 or 140vs139 etc.. Possibly rank them in order of performance? Or if you have any other canopy suggestions let me know. Only ones I can think of are Sabre2 or PrecisionAero Fusion which I haven't looked to much into.. Blues Stay high pull low -
Exactly what I was thinking.. Do you/anyone know if or how the jacket connects? Does it have small clips or anything? And I was also wondering about what my fall rate is going to do.. Currently and all I've ever jumped is my rw suit. Keep in mind I'm only about 150 out the door without weights. Going to a new tight freefly suit and if I stay on my belly for sake of comparison, what am I going to gain? 5, 10, 15 mph? Stay high pull low
-
Did you get a 2 piece? I'd like that, the ability to wear either just the pants or the jacket as well.. Stay high pull low

I can't get to their site right now.. what's the base price of a deepseed freefly suit? Stay high pull low

A few days ago while in Eloy Greg Gasson was giving a small camera flying seminar. He mentioned that the ONE time he jumped without an AAD he almost got knocked out. He was filming a big way and a girl turned to track and turned right into him. Sure you here stories like this, the one in a million chance stories; but honestly it can happen. You don't want to be six feet under pounding the inside of your casket saying "Damn that ONE time!" Stay high pull low

And one of the biggest constraints is cost, as well as it being built for my measurements; not a stock size like Square 1 sells for example. I had quite the list earlier but now that I sit down to post I can't even remember all of the companies I had in mind. Kurupee @ $299 Freak N' Suit @ $200-220 Vertical @ $425 -- No way jose Tony Suit @ $300 Flite Suit Bomber @ $239 Merlin @ $265 Anyone have any suggestions or perhaps a company I forgot? The only things I can think of that I want for sure are cordura or perhaps double layered knees and ass.. Stay high pull low

Checklist for traveling with rig
Psychonaut replied to Psychonaut's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
You may want to toss in your log book and your other small stuff like alti... gloves.. jumpsuit...and the TSA paperwork and Cypres paperwork to show them if you get a crew that has not seen one before. By putting in your other skydive stuff you also have it should they lose your checked in stuff.......it happens. At least that way your skydiving trip is not completely screwed Right idea, I always wear a backpack with my logbook, USPA crap, TSA printouts, and alti goggles gloves and pullup cords Stay high pull low
