Sept 30 - Oct 3 — Skydiving Chicks Rock 2010!
OG-Tahiti replied to LisaH's topic in Events & Places to Jump
Nice picture Lisa, can't believe I missed you guys taking it ^^ Had a very FUN week end, as always Elsinore rocked my world lol "Common sense is not so common" - Voltaire Dudeist Skydiver #9 -
I wouldn't care. I love all these people that tell me what it does to me and it affects me for this long, yada, yada, yada. They don't have a clue how it affects me. Edit: Or effects, I really think it is affects. Exactly, I was talking to a Police officer here, they now have saliva test for weed... Well if you smoked a joint on a friday night and got tested saturday afternoon you'll be positive... But are you still stoned? No way... I know people who smoke one and will just crash on a couch, others that can go surfing in massive waves putting there life on the line and doing just fine. Hell they are even more focused on their riding according to some. Effects of marijuana vary way too much from one person to another imo "Common sense is not so common" - Voltaire Dudeist Skydiver #9

Yeah I hear you, I've also been pondering about adding that sweet chest mounted chrome cup holder More seriously, chest mounted altis are good for freeflying and wingsuit flying because in those flying positions it can be awkward to look at your wrist/hand mounted alti. Now this is maybe something you need to get out of your head. You need to trust your gear and your training. Skydiving is not a sport where you will most likely die... if you do it right :) It is a dangerous sport, but remember that you are the one in control, from the moment you check your rig to the moment your canopy is safely deflated on the ground. So it's your job to make it work ^^ Don't let your fears take over. Oh yeah and most of all, have fun "Common sense is not so common" - Voltaire Dudeist Skydiver #9

3rd Intl. Artistic Wingsuit Competition - The Video
OG-Tahiti replied to mccordia's topic in Wing Suit Flying
Thanks for sharing those! It is so nice to see all the new variations competitive wingsuit flying is taking :) Good job!!! "Common sense is not so common" - Voltaire Dudeist Skydiver #9 -
http://flysight.ca/features.htm Saw this posted on the world wingsuit news blog and figured all of you will be interested in this. A 5Hz GPS logger, that has a beep feedback for your glide ratio in real time!!! From the site: Solo tracking and wingsuit jumps with this will help so much in getting a better max glide/speed body position I'm sure!!! Well I got my coach rating a month ago at around 140 jumps. I had two main reasons for doing it: 1- I feel that taking the time to learn how to teach the FJC and the coach jumps workflow in itself was a great way to keep myself current with emergency procedures and learn more about our sport. I am sure it helps me be a better and safer skydiver each time I get to teach a course. 2- I have friends that want to do their AFF and when I did mine I honestly started to get seriously bored during my solos. I wish I had friends that could jump with me, on my first coach jump as a solo student a coach friend jumped with me and we turned my first few points. This jump is one I will remember for a long time because of the fun it was. For the first time I felt like an actual skydiver doing a skydive you know, not just a student. So if I can help bring that feeling to my friends during all their solos on their way to A than it was worth the $$ and time for the coach course. So I don't feel jumpers are not ready for coach rating at 100 jumps, it just depends what you expect to get out from it. "Common sense is not so common" - Voltaire Dudeist Skydiver #9

Well now with the smaller packing mains and reserves you can usually get 4 sizes in a single container, and start it out with a large reserve. I'll take a friend's example. He is fresh out of AFF and is jumping a 230. We are jumping in France so we have a wingloading chart to follow which I think really helps in not downsizing too fast... Anyways according to his weight he needs 400+ jumps to be under a 170. He can get a container made for a 190 which fits 170-210 easily, and now even fits a 230 PD pulse without too much fuss. And this size container you can also most likely fit a PD Optimum 210. Now with a brand new setup container right off AFF he is good for at least 400 jumps, and since he does not plan on doing really more than 200 jumps a year I don't see him being under a 150 at his weight any time soon. I also chose to get a brand new container right away as I know I plan to do a lot of wingsuiting and going under a 150/135 for that for my weight would be stupid. So I got a container that could fit a 170 just fine and I will probably keep it for my whole skydiving career as a wingsuit rig :) So yes, it *can* be the best deal for you to get a new container with used everything else (I would also get a brand new AAD and reserve cause those should not change anytime soon). Got an Icarus reserve 169 which is a standard fit, rigger said it was a good size. I plan on using a Safire2 169 as a main, but right now I have a Parachutes de France Merit 190 packed in it. The 190 was easy to put in the bag and the container closed easily as well. It doesn't even looks stuffed. The merit 190 is half ZP and is still pretty new. So I am sure you'll be just fine with any 170 in there :) Enjoy your Vector! "Common sense is not so common" - Voltaire Dudeist Skydiver #9

Well this is something I would like to see on some helmets: You see how the stock go pro mounts that you 3M to your helmet are just 3 rails. I think it would be best if you could mold those 3 rails at a convenient place on the helmet so that when you slide your gopro off, only those 3 small rails stick out, snag free. It could even be kind of recessed into the helmet like a sort of rail. "Common sense is not so common" - Voltaire Dudeist Skydiver #9

Very cool site!! But he is right that flash sites are really outdated now. Try looking into CSS3 and javascript libraries such as jquery. You can have the same looks and effects, but it will be much faster. Still I am on a slowish internet and the site is really not that clunky or slow, good job!! Picture 6 in the BASE gallery is just amazing! That depth of field is incredible... "Common sense is not so common" - Voltaire Dudeist Skydiver #9

My bad I took hallux for rhys and figured he forgot to relog before replying to himself. Looks like rhys other account got deleted and that added to my confusion :P My bad sorry hallux!!! And as you said I asked if it could be an alternative and got some sound replies from you guys and learned from it :) "Common sense is not so common" - Voltaire Dudeist Skydiver #9

I think you will need to contact UPT directly for those as it is usually an option on their newer V3. They will also help you get the right size I'm sure. "Common sense is not so common" - Voltaire Dudeist Skydiver #9

LMAO way to talk to yourself buddy, get help seriously... I know the internetz is serious business, but still... do get help "Common sense is not so common" - Voltaire Dudeist Skydiver #9

Just a newbie myself but from talking with different camera flyers at the DZ you must have a proper cutaway chin cup. Counting on removing that chinstrap clip during a mal is a no no. I have also seen a good mix of top / side mount around as well. As for helmet options I am looking into the Cookie Atomic with their new CX150 cage. Looks like the lowest side profile possible. Anyone knows of something slimmer for a CX150 side mounted? "Common sense is not so common" - Voltaire Dudeist Skydiver #9

I think we all agree that those small form cameras are by no means a decent alternative to proper video equipment for pro footage. But I think they are great for all those jumps where no one would actually be filming anyways. And honestly on the breaking off the small cam vs cutaway system, in the case of the GoPro mounts which I am familiar with, only the line getting stuck under the sticky mount could be a real issue as DSE suggested, and a small bit of electrical tape on the sides to make it flush solves it really... And you would need some very THIN lines for them to get stuck under there. I don't like playing the devil's advocate, but want to better understand the risks involved with the mount and this discussion already brought up an issue that is new to me :) Thx "Common sense is not so common" - Voltaire Dudeist Skydiver #9
-
Thanks DSE, will talk to the guys there for sure. I agree that you'd need super powers to rip off the 3M double sided tape of those mounts, but from just handling my GoPro I broke the plastic part that slides into the sticky mount. That's the part I think would snap off pretty easily. But as you said, better get information from experienced people rather than discover the problems of shooting video on your own :) BTW, great list of how it can take your mind off much more important things, and it shows how much the size of the cam makes no difference... It uses two locking stows/rubber bands and then the lines are stowed in a side pouch that closes with tabs. They have a different material at the "mouth" of the pouch that pays the lines on opening, most likely helps with durability. "Common sense is not so common" - Voltaire Dudeist Skydiver #9
-
Just a side note / question about the safety issue of the GoPro. Are they really such a hazardous snag point? Even if a riser would strike it or get stuck in it on opening I really don't see the plastic mount holding up. It would probably take just as long to reach for the cam and rip it off as it would be to reach for your chin strap cutaway, or am I way off? ok ok :) V348 with all the goods and the new stowless deployment bag. "Common sense is not so common" - Voltaire Dudeist Skydiver #9

Thashtera, and what would this archeological evidence of Jesus/God be? I was given by some Jehova witnesses or what ever they call themselves a book going on it's merry way to prove that we all come from Adam and Eve and that evolution is a scam... The cover had Jesus riding on a dinosaur, pretty neat huh? Oh and if science hasn't proved something yet it does not mean it can't, it just means more research has to be put into that subject. I don't see a single thing science just straight out can't prove, besides subjects of faith. Wich would be like asking science if Mickey Mouse is real... And it looks even better on the Elsinore couches lol Well I also got my new V3 but haven't had a chance to jump it yet. It fits good but feels just a bit tight on the shoulders, like there is a little too much pressure on them. The rig feels more comfy in a box position on my bed tho Just wondering if you guys felt like your V3s kinda got broke in and loosened up with a few jumps on them. Thanks :) "Common sense is not so common" - Voltaire Dudeist Skydiver #9

Well Elsinore has Purusha and Mr Tickle!!! How the hell can you beat that?!?!! Started my AFF there and did most of my jumps at this DZ as well. All I can say is every time I get to do a trip there I meet the best people from all over the world and get to know the locals and instructors a little bit more, and just keep on being amazed at how nice these guys are... On the more serious aspect of teaching I don't see how a DZ where Yong teaches could go sideways. She sees everything and is always there to keep you in the right tracks, she has her ways of doing it, love it or hate it but she does the job right! So yeah even tho she scares me props to Yong!! Oh and I did a canopy course there with a guy named Jonathan Tagle, I heard he knows a thing or two about canopy flying and I also heard he is a local from Elsinore, man the crazy stories you hear sometimes! I am of course sa to see guys like Misha go or Mark and Cesar not being around as much, but guys that's life, and in no ways mean they ran away from elsinore because of how terrible it is... Keep on hatin' we'll keep on having fun! "Common sense is not so common" - Voltaire Dudeist Skydiver #9

Thanks for clearing it up, makes a lot of sense ^^ "Common sense is not so common" - Voltaire Dudeist Skydiver #9

When you say learned to pack for the bag, what exactly did you change in your regular pack job to make it a nicer opening in the stowless bag? Is it just doubling the locking stows? Thanks for all that feeedback "Common sense is not so common" - Voltaire Dudeist Skydiver #9
