  1. This is a good issue. Did you know that most people's number one fear is public speaking? As a public speaker I just don't get this at a gut level. Same with skydiving, the only fear I have is of "fu**ing up" the group. I just don't get the fear some have of takeoff, positioning in the door, release, pull, flare and land. But that doesn't mean it's not real to the other person. What we without fear often feel is a "focus and respond" emotion. -Focus on correctly executing the skydive and respond correctly to any malfunction. Fear can lock that up and get people killed. Fear is often not rational, and some fear cannot be overcome. For some golf is the answer.
  2. Freedom? As a full-grown man high-school graduate, now he'll be asking if his girl can stay over!
  3. What a cool place for the button! Right in the middle of the lens graphic! I cut the housing off of the top of the button. I can't tell from your photo if it's just the red button, or if the housing and the button are there. It's still a hideously cool placement. JP
  4. Dude! When it's like 100 degrees out and you're covered with sweat, wrestle with it then! You will lightly "mist" it with saline solution. I have NEVER been so frustrated as when I tried to pack my new Spectre (and I've got twin girls). The one tip that really helped me was to fold the canopy up to the size of the D-bag. Check out this site: http://www.brentfinley.com/packing2.htm That method works for me. JP
  5. If you have to ask if it's cheating. It's cheating. If it weighs on your heart, you must confess. If you've cheated and it doesn't weigh on your heart, you're not in love. I forget the name of the old Supreme Court Justice who said (regarding the definition of obscenity) No, I can't define it, but I know it when I see it. Cheating is like that.
  6. Accidental post whorage. Two of our top vidiots have their PC cameras on QR. Both are Velbon, both are Bonehead top mounts
  7. I have the Stroboframe for my still camera and it is very solid and has minimal snagadelics. My DZ is split between Velbon and Stroboframe, but I like the lower profile of the Strobo better.
  8. Thanks Dino. Very helpful. I actually cut off the top of the little black housing and only the red button sticks up. Mine is placed on the front left flat spot right in front and to the left of the stills quick release. RUN YOUR VACUUM CLEANER IN THE HELMET WHEN YOU GRIND IN THERE PEOPLE. That freakin carbon fiber pops like popcorn when it delaminates. This was my first experience with the stuff and WOW does it want to spread out when it's drilled, ground, or cut. I ended up with a 2.5mm jack for my stills and the cameye wired pretty much like Dino's. Minimal exposed wires. It looks so cool people will be stunned by my complete squidliness in actually using all that stuff. Thanks again all, JP

Wes, check the fit with a camera mounted before you buy. I re-lined the foam around my face to keep mine from leaning way over when I put my 110 on. I probably would have gotten a smaller /snugger size if I had to do it again.
  10. I've got over a 100 jumps on my bought new 170 Spectre loaded about 1.25. Every opening but one has been great, with 800-1000 foot snivels. I got spanked once across the face by risers, and I am pretty sure it's because I twisted the bag when I put it in the container (so I got lucky!). A guy at my DZ is loaded about the same on a 210 and is always trying to get his to open faster. Roll the nose cells toward the middle. If you choose to roll them all, make sure you pull high cause you could end up snivelling right into a Cypress fire. I also switched to Super Bandz, and I get a smoother line release/snatch with them.
  11. So, CanEhdian, what are you gonna fly next?
  12. Dino, I e-mailed you direct. Thanks for the offer of pictures, please forward them to my direct e-mail. Preciate it! JP
  13. I'd cut it because the LED's are bigger than the cord, and I want the cord to come out right alongside the ringsight bracket, so I'd drill the helmet right alongside the mount. I'd cut the cord and splice it so that the re-connect is inside, under the lining pads. I looked at just bringing the cord out of the helmet alongside my face, but the hole with rubber grommet solution looks so much cleaner. I've got a Hawkeye LT.
  14. Anybody cut their Cameye II to mount it up? I see from the website there's 3 wires in the cable, any horror stories or advice?
  15. Thanks, all. I'm jumping the camera helmet for the first time this weekend ..."BEER!"
  16. The shutter release seems like the weakest link in the camera helmet. If it gets disconnected and all you have are the ground and airplane cabin shots, do you just charge for the video and throw the pictures in for free?
  17. Advice: Ride a motorcycle there. The only thing moving slower than the fans sitting in the bleachers is the freakin cars waiting to get into the place.
  18. Hey I just sent you a picture of my Spectre in flight to your regular e-mail address. Custom canopy pictures are like baby pictures, gotta show em off! (Weasel newbies can't post files that big)
  19. Heck no! Gareth lets me do big ways with him now. I think he's mistaking me for you, until I funnel the 10 way. I pulled him out of an 8 way zipper and when he looked down at me I could see he was thinking (in his English accent) "Oh shit! That's not Sebastian! That's JP, what the bloody hell is he doing here!" When we get back down he sniffs me and your scent throws him off long enough to let me front float the next load!
  20. My best suit is now my Pit Special, cause Sebazz wore it one day. I think if either of the women on the panel say anything with the word "first" in it I'll jump up, knocking over my chair, point and shout "BEER!" That shoud do it!
  21. So you're sitting there in your best interview suit. When they say "tell us a little bit about yourself" Do you crack a maniacal grin and say "Well, I split my off time pretty much between RW and Free flying, and I just set up my camera helmet" or do you keep quiet about it until they've ordered your business cards?
  22. Oooh, a black and tan and a bowl of peanuts. It's 98 degrees in Martinez California. Uh, outside. I'm currently under flourescent lights with no possible view of a window. Chant it with me "this job pays for skydives, this job pays for skydives."
  23. They aren't shipping the PC 110 anymore. I've been putting my camera helmet together for a while, and I got my Hawkeye LT first, bite switch, cameye, D-box, and then went to buy my 110 when I had the money. I freaked when just about nobody had one and I already got the D-box. The 110 is being replaced with the 120. If I had to do it over, I would have gotten my camera first, and then the rest of the gear. I also would have gotten a 9. Another thing, try to try on whatever helmet your'e going to get with a camera hanging on it. I love my aviator freefly helmet, and my hawkeye is real comfortable, but when I hung my 110 on the side, it really pulled the helmet down on that side. I spent an afternoon cutting up a pair of foam kneepads, covering them with fabric and backing up the earpads in order to get the helmet to be secure on my face. Got plain old jiggy with the hot glue gun. The side hinge thingie on the Boneheads makes a lot more sense to me now. If the helmet is secure on your head it is hard to get it down over the ears. Good luck
  24. Oh, I'm riding my MC down from the Bay Area (Antioch).
  25. I'll be down the weekend of the 22nd. I've got a conference during the week but they usually break early and I was hoping to get some evening jumps every day, I'll be leaving Friday the 28th. I didn't even think about Perris. I might stop by there on the way down just to say I've done it. Definitely want to jump all day Sunday in San Diego. -JP
