accidental fall from 5 story bldg--CAUGHT ON VIDEO!!
TomAiello replied to pope's topic in The Bonfire
did you look at the website before moving this? The website is a team of guys that "offer talent for Aerial and other stunts, we specialize in B.A.S.E. (fixed object) jumping..." Granted the clip he referenced si not base, but the most of site is. I know the guys quite well, actually. -- Tom Aiello Tom@SnakeRiverBASE.com SnakeRiverBASE.com -

Dude. Not related to BASE. I'm moving this to the Bonfire. -- Tom Aiello Tom@SnakeRiverBASE.com SnakeRiverBASE.com -

My "Forced Myself to Jump Anyway" story is here I've reproduced it below, for ease of reading: -- Tom Aiello Tom@SnakeRiverBASE.com SnakeRiverBASE.com

I dunno. Even pulled out of context, I get what Nick was saying. BASE culture is pretty complex. It's definitely got a certain amount of nose-thumbing in it. There's lots of other stuff, too, but I'm pretty sure that's why Nick said it was a founding principle, not the founding principle. -- Tom Aiello Tom@SnakeRiverBASE.com SnakeRiverBASE.com

I skydive very rarely. It's 2 hours to the nearest DZ, and only 3 minutes to the nearest object. -- Tom Aiello Tom@SnakeRiverBASE.com SnakeRiverBASE.com

Deciding not to jump is always the right decision. It takes a whole lot more courage to walk off than it does to push yourself over the edge. That cliff will still be there when you go back. -- Tom Aiello Tom@SnakeRiverBASE.com SnakeRiverBASE.com

Speaking of BASE jumping parents, big congratulations to Jason and Jennifer Bell. -- Tom Aiello Tom@SnakeRiverBASE.com SnakeRiverBASE.com

Talk about a chain of mistakes... Any idea what the level of experience of the friend was? It's disturbing that we still have people with 2 jumps thinking that slider down cliffs are a good idea. And testing their DBS for the first time off a solid object? -- Tom Aiello Tom@SnakeRiverBASE.com SnakeRiverBASE.com

Lonnie took up BASE 1100 jumps ago. That's 1100 BASE jumps. I'd hazard a guess that he is the person on earth with the most experience at being a BASE jumping parent. -- Tom Aiello Tom@SnakeRiverBASE.com SnakeRiverBASE.com

That's a personal attack. I've banned you from this forum for 14 days. If you find yourself wanting to comment on a poster personally, rather than the content of what they are saying, you probably ought to reconsider. -- Tom Aiello Tom@SnakeRiverBASE.com SnakeRiverBASE.com

For the last three years, my tax returns have listed my occupation as "BASE jumper." I'm considering a career change to "industrial gravity tester" as per Jay's suggestion. -- Tom Aiello Tom@SnakeRiverBASE.com SnakeRiverBASE.com

Yep. Which is why I think they ought to be practiced in non-emergency situations first. -- Tom Aiello Tom@SnakeRiverBASE.com SnakeRiverBASE.com

An unpacked jump where you essentially hold the canopy propacked in one hand as you jump off. There's more to it than that, but that's the short explanation. You might want to do a search through the forums, and I bet you can find video of it on SkydivingMovies.com. -- Tom Aiello Tom@SnakeRiverBASE.com SnakeRiverBASE.com

You could also use this to train for "not so virtual" flybys. I wonder if that's a good thing, though. -- Tom Aiello Tom@SnakeRiverBASE.com SnakeRiverBASE.com

No way. Think about the content that you're asking to be made publicly available. I'm sure that whoever had a copy of that kind of potentially incriminating evidence would never let it be distributed in any way--much less upload it to an internet server. -- Tom Aiello Tom@SnakeRiverBASE.com SnakeRiverBASE.com

I believe that the ability to do a TARD (and to a lesser extent other unpacked jumps) could have saved several lives in BASE accidents (where jumpers were stuck on walls and died either of exposure or trying to self-extricate) and also would have greatly simplified several other rescues. -- Tom Aiello Tom@SnakeRiverBASE.com SnakeRiverBASE.com

This course is now full, with all participants confirmed. I'll hold another, similar course in late summer, from August 27th to Septmber 4th (Labor Day Weekend). -- Tom Aiello Tom@SnakeRiverBASE.com SnakeRiverBASE.com

I'm going to sticky this for a bit. I think there's a good lesson here for all of us, in terms of community relations and how the impressions we leave affect other jumpers. -- Tom Aiello Tom@SnakeRiverBASE.com SnakeRiverBASE.com
