Shouldn't that concern be addressed by simply leaving the primary stow off, which will allow the canopy to begin bottom skin expansion as it moves (or you fall away, depending on your perspective, with the real situation being somewhere between) to line stretch? -- Tom Aiello Tom@SnakeRiverBASE.com SnakeRiverBASE.com

not sure i understand what your writing so sorry if im wrong off here.. Your NOT sopoused to get line dumbs at TARDs I'm with Faber. Jaap, why do you want to encourage line dump? The whole purpose of stowing the lines in the pocket (i.e. doing a SmartTard, rather than a plain old TARD) is to stage the lines to reduce the chance of a tension knot or similar. If you are going to the trouble of stowing the lines, why do you want to then eliminate the main advantage of doing so? I understand that the SmartTard is easier to launch (because you get a free hand) but that's kind of an extra benefit, in my opinion. -- Tom Aiello Tom@SnakeRiverBASE.com SnakeRiverBASE.com

This is a pull around 200 feet. Compare the canopy time of the two jumps. I'd say that Diverdriver is on the right track with 600-800. A slider up pull at 170 feet without a wingsuit _might_ be survivable. It certainly wouldn't allow any flare, and would probably cause injury if landed on hard ground. -- Tom Aiello Tom@SnakeRiverBASE.com SnakeRiverBASE.com

B12's aren't standard, but I've seen them on plenty of harnesses. They're very convenient for gearing up in tight spaces. I can't recall how much they cost as an option, but they're definitely available. On B12's, be sure that you snap the B12 before taking the PC out to go hand held. I've seen people snap the bridle into the leg strap on accident. Also, check the B12's just before exit, I know a B12 somehow (no idea how) came loose during the climb over of the rail on the bridge here, leaving the jumper outside the rail and minus one leg strap. -- Tom Aiello Tom@SnakeRiverBASE.com SnakeRiverBASE.com

Looks like a BASE canopy to me. It's also a fairly normal opening altitude for many BASE jumpers, and a fair bit higher than some of the demo openings I've seen from European jumpers (search through the SM.com server for "Low Pull in Slovenia"). I'm curious how they got permission to do that in the US. Anybody have any specifics on that? -- Tom Aiello Tom@SnakeRiverBASE.com SnakeRiverBASE.com

He posted both here and on BLiNC last time there was a bust there. I know I've got his email addy somewhere here. Let me see if I can dig it up. -- Tom Aiello Tom@SnakeRiverBASE.com SnakeRiverBASE.com

I'm pretty sure you were the only one to notice. And since I control the stickies in both this forum and the BASE forum, I'd probably have noticed if there was some effect of the RC.com merger. Kris (or anyone else), if you want to write up a short FAQ document, I'd be happy to sticky it for the time being, and ask Sangiro to add it to the header for this forum. -- Tom Aiello Tom@SnakeRiverBASE.com SnakeRiverBASE.com

See video here. This jumper induced line twists while playing with a perfectly good canopy. There were complicating factors which he did not anticipate, but still, I'd try to avoid that kind of thing. -- Tom Aiello Tom@SnakeRiverBASE.com SnakeRiverBASE.com

Please do ask him. I'll be surprised if he can, since I've heard from both Apex and Asylum that the raw materials (the fine mesh in black) are not available. I'll call Fablok on Monday, but I'm pretty sure that was the name of the regular Apex supplier, which means they won't have it, either. -- Tom Aiello Tom@SnakeRiverBASE.com SnakeRiverBASE.com

Nope. That's large hole mesh. I still love Lee's web site, though. -- Tom Aiello Tom@SnakeRiverBASE.com SnakeRiverBASE.com

I'm looking for a slider made of fine black mesh (the small hole, or marquisette, mesh). Unfortunately, I can't seem to find anyone who can make me one. Does anyone here know where I can find either; a) a source for such mesh fabric, or; b) someone who can manufacture such a slider custom for me? Thanks for any help! -- Tom Aiello Tom@SnakeRiverBASE.com SnakeRiverBASE.com

Which sorts of unpacked jumps have you done at this altitude? I'm thinking we ought to differentiate a little better in this kind of discussion, because there are obviously some sorts of unpacked jumps that can require more or less altitude. -- Tom Aiello Tom@SnakeRiverBASE.com SnakeRiverBASE.com

This is similar to a system that Russel has used. In his case, the idea is to change the location of the riser attachment (and where he hangs beneath it), by cutting away the first riser attachment and shifting his weight onto the second. -- Tom Aiello Tom@SnakeRiverBASE.com SnakeRiverBASE.com

I was very impressed with how quickly he got the suit flying. I pitched around 2, thinking that my opening would pull me off his back, and before I got open I could feel myself sinking out on him and (relatively) pushing hard down through him. Which means he had noticeable flight by around 3 seconds--and that's not a "huge wing" style suit. -- Tom Aiello Tom@SnakeRiverBASE.com SnakeRiverBASE.com

Our jump. It's the video we saw in the van, that we couldn't locate that night. Nate found them for me the next morning, but you had already left. -- Tom Aiello Tom@SnakeRiverBASE.com SnakeRiverBASE.com

It is my understanding that you can still directly order from CR, if all you want is a canopy. If you want any other components (or a complete rig) you need to order from Asylum. -- Tom Aiello Tom@SnakeRiverBASE.com SnakeRiverBASE.com

I got a dub of some footage from Pyro the morning after. I'll try to put it up somewhere when I have a chance. It might take a bit, as I've only just rolled into town. -- Tom Aiello Tom@SnakeRiverBASE.com SnakeRiverBASE.com
