dmcoco, sorry to lock your thread. Everyone who wants to argue about what makes a good motorcycle rider, what is unsafe about it, what responsibilities a rider has, etc, etc, etc, please do so in the Bonfire, Speakers Corner, or perhaps a motorcycle forum. Thanks! -- Tom Aiello Tom@SnakeRiverBASE.com SnakeRiverBASE.com

This one keeps recurring, too. Original thread is here and includes posts by the jumper. Let's try to keep the discussion in one place. -- Tom Aiello Tom@SnakeRiverBASE.com SnakeRiverBASE.com

The bald dude giving the peace sign is Jamie Boutwell. The photo was taken for the local article, but got picked up and run with some of the AP stuff. -- Tom Aiello Tom@SnakeRiverBASE.com SnakeRiverBASE.com

Our local paper had a piece on Jamie Boutwell that got picked up by a couple other papers. We also had an AP and a Reuters piece done about TF this summer, as well as that ESPN Sportscenter bit. -- Tom Aiello Tom@SnakeRiverBASE.com SnakeRiverBASE.com

I expect that there will still be people about. I'll ask around and see if anyone plans on being sober enough to drive out and get you. Isn't there a loaner car at the airport? I seem to remember Abbie and Collin stealing it for like a week one time. Sure. No problem. -- Tom Aiello Tom@SnakeRiverBASE.com SnakeRiverBASE.com

Yes. I think it's a fairly typical pressurization pattern. But, the reason I started this discussion is that in the thread in the wingsuit forum, the idea was floated that the reason for the "hole" in the middle of the pressurization wave was the lack of a center cell vent: What I'm looking for is some kind of evidence to support (or not) this theory. If the center cell is unpressurized because of the lack of venting, then the Troll DW ought to exhibit a markedly different inflation pattern. I'm not certain that the fact this canopy is being deployed unpacked really makes all that much of a difference in the inflation pattern. In my observation, the circular-looking pressurization waves also occur on packed jumps. -- Tom Aiello Tom@SnakeRiverBASE.com SnakeRiverBASE.com

If you could be a greenie for a day.....

I've been trying to decide that for a while now. Still nothing coming to me... -- Tom Aiello Tom@SnakeRiverBASE.com SnakeRiverBASE.com -
You are correct. My mistake--thanks for spotting that. I wonder if the absence of the PC is making the inflation significantly different, or just easier to see? -- Tom Aiello Tom@SnakeRiverBASE.com SnakeRiverBASE.com

Rock Dragon 303 after PCA deployment. -- Tom Aiello Tom@SnakeRiverBASE.com SnakeRiverBASE.com

I've started a discussion about this in the BASE forum. The pressurization wave pattern in the photo is very characteristic of most valved canopies (interestingly, not the same as vented but unvalved canopies, in my experience). -- Tom Aiello Tom@SnakeRiverBASE.com SnakeRiverBASE.com

Does anyone have a photo of a Troll DW inflating slider down at the same stage as the Rock Dragon in the attachment (originally posted by Calvin19 in the wingsuit forum)? I'd be very interested to compare the pressurization wave pattern with and without the center cell valve. Thanks! -- Tom Aiello Tom@SnakeRiverBASE.com SnakeRiverBASE.com

I've removed the jumper's name. If anyone can verify the facts of this story, I'd appreciate hearing about it via PM or email. If you want to know the name of the jumper in question, you can always PM BASE1036. -- Tom Aiello Tom@SnakeRiverBASE.com SnakeRiverBASE.com

Jumping isn't illegal. Being on the tower (trespassing) was already done. By jumping, you haven't committed any additional crime. In theory, it shouldn't be any worse to jump down than to climb down. That said, I had a friend who jumped in a similar situation, and it made the cops very angry. They (and the DA) then proceeded to try to nail him with every imaginable charge. I think if he had walked down to them he probably would have gotten off a lot lighter. -- Tom Aiello Tom@SnakeRiverBASE.com SnakeRiverBASE.com

Do you want to sell it to me? Chad has first dibs. But, I'm never going to sell it. -- Tom Aiello Tom@SnakeRiverBASE.com SnakeRiverBASE.com

Why do you expect the wing to blow out at the bottom of the jump? I'd expect it to go up higher as the airspeed picked up. For what it's worth, I had a wing blow about 2 seconds into a flight from a terminal wall a couple years ago. I just folded everything in to a standard track and had no real problems. -- Tom Aiello Tom@SnakeRiverBASE.com SnakeRiverBASE.com

Chad, weren't you talking about giving a class at the Turkey Boogie? -- Tom Aiello Tom@SnakeRiverBASE.com SnakeRiverBASE.com

It's definitely a good idea. You might also want to throw in some basic climbing gear for self-rescues. -- Tom Aiello Tom@SnakeRiverBASE.com SnakeRiverBASE.com

I've sent you a Private Message. There will be plenty of people around on Monday. The weather is beautiful (and forecast to remain so through the weekend), and there are many jumpers around. -- Tom Aiello Tom@SnakeRiverBASE.com SnakeRiverBASE.com

Do you think that list ought to include skydiving videos with some BASE (like Crosswind and Soul Flyers)? In which case definitely add Chronicles, and a bunch of others. -- Tom Aiello Tom@SnakeRiverBASE.com SnakeRiverBASE.com

Try cruising the classifieds. I bought a used J-7 from the Raeford gear shop (for pretty much the same thing you want one for) that fits my FOX 265 comfortably, and my Troll 290 with some squeezing. It cost me $300 (with a reserve) about 5 years ago. Mine was an old GK accuracy rig (at least, it looked like that was the patch that had been pulled off it, and coming from Raeford that makes sense), so you might try finding an accuracy jumper who is selling used gear. -- Tom Aiello Tom@SnakeRiverBASE.com SnakeRiverBASE.com
