I don't know which lines vx has? is it vectran or spectra. If it's vectran then what i'll say doesn't apply. But if it's spectra, then after a few jumps lines get shorter. And i think some canopies are designed in a way, that only after a few jumps (around 50), the line set is as it should be, and only then it opens as it should. "George just lucky i guess!"

YEHAA, way to go girls!

I had a similar problem, still do from time to time. What really helped me is exit with closed eyes. Of course those were solo jumps, but it really helps, because you can't see the horizon. You can only feel from which direction air is coming, so it's easier to exit at the right angle. "George just lucky i guess!"

Any DZ.com boogie New Year's Eve party dress code?
grega replied to blueshrew's topic in The Bonfire
unfortunately i won't be there, but if i'd be going, i'd take two freefly suits, one pair of jumping shoes, toothbrush and some clean underwear. Oh and couple of (or more) cases of beer. "George just lucky i guess!" -
Daemn, why arent black and gray my favourite colors! Great looking rig man, congrats.

I thought so. It's all clear to me now. Thanks "George just lucky i guess!"

So if i get this right: Slow speed stall is induced with toggles? High speed stall is induced with rear risers? Is it always the same speed and aoa when stalling with toggles, no matter what was the speed and aoa was, before i induced the stall? "George just lucky i guess!"

We know that the stall occurs, when the canopy's angle of attack is too big, right? To achieve this you have to slow down the canopy while the body (most of the mass) swings forward and aoa increases. At slow speed stall you slowly pull down the toggles to the point where the aoa becomes too big and the canopy stalls. The question is, where is this point at high speed stalls? Do you have to pull the toggles to the same point to induce a high speed stall? Or is this point much higher at higher speeds? Some technical explanation is welcome. p.s. If i'm wrong at any point please correct me. "George just lucky i guess!"

So to sum it up. Shutting down the canopy means slowing it down to the speed where you can "calmly" step on the ground. "George just lucky i guess!"

Losing altitude in your carves in wind versus no wind
grega replied to CanuckInUSA's topic in Swooping and Canopy Control
The only part where the wind does effect the climb is while the plane is still touching the ground. It doesn't need as much ground speed to get in the air because it's airspeed is higher for whatever the windspeed is. Once the aircraft is off the ground, it's just the same as there would be no wind. Excluding the turbulences of course. I wish i could explain it to you with equations, but what hooknswoop is trying to do, is to explain it to you in easier way, with examples. If i show you the equations and calculations (in physics) you sure wouldn't understand even half as much as you do now. Unless you're a physics, then you should know that you don't loose more altitude in a (theoretically turbulence free) wind during a turn. "George just lucky i guess!" -

What no more site seeing with your new rig? I'm glad that you finally jumped it. -
Huh, what exactly did you hear that is not rigger friendly about mirage ? I can't find a thing about my mirage that wouldn't be rigger friendly. "George just lucky i guess!"

Here is a tip: Breathe ! "George just lucky i guess!"

I'd ask: Do you have any tips on those kind of flights you did with icarus extreme team in norway this year - flying a canopy very close to a steep terrain, over the forest (swooppromo2 video),... What are the dangers, what should we look out for? What kind of canopy is most suitable for such rides? "George just lucky i guess!"
-
i wasn't able to shut down the canopy or you can shut it down I read that many times here in different threads and was never sure what "shut down" means? Does that mean stalling the canopy, or slowing it down to almost zero vertical and horizontal speed? or is it something completely different? "George just lucky i guess!"

gee Thanks Bor, and you already have my phone number, so stop fu^%#ng around. Rather post pictures of your new canopy "George just lucky i guess!"

Nooooooooo knocingk my head hard on the table Why didn't i go this year, why,... ? I read that there are going after new adventures? is there a possibility that they'll organize similar event somewhere else? Because it would really be shame if there wouldn't be any Freefly only event with so many great coaches... and parties and,... Does anyone know more than what it's written on their page? Can i be your friend btw: When are you ordering chocolate or ice cream "George just lucky i guess!"

one more thing be careful when you drag a toe over snow. it can have a frozen crust on top. You can break it if you have enough speed, but at the end of the swoop, when you're slow enough, crust is stronger and it stops you in a moment. You probably can imagine how it looks like if something locks your feet to the ground in the middle of the swoop "George just lucky i guess!"
-
I did. It's fun for the first two seconds. Then when you can't feel your fingers, nose, ears,... it's not so fun anymore The landings are great though, you can drag a toe over the snow. But beware depth perception changes quite a bit when everything is white.. "George just lucky i guess!"
