I'm sure the reserve will deploy just fine in any position most of the time. though i have heard of spun up reserves. If i have any knowledge, it's easier to end up with twisted lines when deploying unstable, especialy under moderately loaded reserve. And i sure don't wanna end up 500 feet above the ground with unsteerable reserve, because i'd have line twists. I've seen reserves deployed on back, and it took at least one or two more seconds before the reserve came out of the freebag. I think anyone experienced enough can get stable in 2 seconds, to safely open the reserve. I understand your post and i agree and don't agree with you. Like it's been said, some like RSL some don't. I don't. I don't consider myself experienced with the jump numbers i have at all. Knowledge is one thing, experience is something else. We're talking so it's theory and knowledge, and you need those to gain experience safely. But some people even if they have experience, doesn't mean they'll react better/safer than someone that has less experience. I, for example, wouldn't give my canopy for a test jump, to many people, that have more jumps (experience) then i have. Just my opinion "George just lucky i guess!"

If one wouldn't be able to get a coach, and the only way of learning freefly is by trial and error, and the theory and drills he found here and on the web, what is the best way for him to learn head-up flying. - What is the best order to learn the drills (falling straight down, changing speed, forward movement, backward, sideways, etc.) What to learn first what second, third,... - And most important, if someone is learning by himself, he can quite easily get some bad habits. So what are the bad habits he should avoid and why? Mostly for head up, but if you have any advices for Head down, don't hesitate. And give as much details as you were talking to an Aff student. p.s.: And please try not to say "Get a coach" "George just lucky i guess!"

why is that? The more HP canopy you have, the more likely you'll cutaway in an unstable position. With rsl you don't have time to get stable. And the more HP canopy you have the more experienced you are, so i guess you won't forget to pull the reserve handle. So please explain why you think so? "George just lucky i guess!"

WHAT! There are other things to do than skydive? "George just lucky i guess!"

Good luck

I can't believe some have chosen seeing bush meeting bunch of skydivers having fun, and jump your ass off, partying every night... or meeting a wuffo person that you can't even normally speak to huh i see there are still some people here that think skydiving is not the most important thing in the world "George just lucky i guess!"

Yeah, but it's not like you'll have to get it repaired every week, not even every month. maybe once a year. I read manuals for almost all the rigs on the market, listen to reviews (mostly complaints), use a little of my "common sense", and decide what looks and feels good on me. I have one embroidered pull up cord and it sucks! Not that it only causes more wear on a closing loop, you can really pull it out only one way. Embroidery won't go through the closing loop. IMO painted pull up cords are better, if you want a sign or text on it. "George just lucky i guess!"

Pull up cord is always in the harness pocket, and so is emergency jump ticket. that's in case i don't have any money and i desperately need a minute of freefall And depends on how many jumps per hour i do, but sometimes i take food and drinks with me, which get consumed on the ride up. Or when it's promotional served by georgeous girls "George just lucky i guess!"

If you tell him what you'll picture with his camera, i'm sure he'll love to give you the camera go girls!

Hanging @ the NutHouse, or incriminating pictures of Crapflinger.

oohhh, look at all those happy people. They're almost as happy as when skydiver gets a new canopy "George just lucky i guess!" -
First of all, great article. I have one thought/question. How about braked landing practice before flat turns. When learning how to flat turn 50ft above the ground, one can easily end up too low with already more than 50% brakes. that could end up in a pretty hard landing. What do you think about practicing straight in braked landing before. Same like one practices double front riser landing before single front riser turn landing. First land with 10% braked canopy, meaning that you start flaring normally but with already 10% brakes added (with less speed than normal). And each jump at final approach gradually add more brakes, all the way to where you can still more or less gently land. That way you'll find out what's the slowest speed you can land that canopy safely at. Beware of stalls if practicing this. This should really perfect ones flaring technique. And when downsized to a moderate wl or more , this should help landing on tight spots. What do you think? "George just lucky i guess!"

Same applies for my Mirage G4

Could you please explain why pointing feet/toes forward and not to the sides? Is it only because if you do what you said in those 2 points, you'll spread them more? I saw people flying HD in numerous ways, but since you posted this tip, why is it better like this? and why knees straight, i really don't remember seeing straight legs with anyones technique. And i thought i'll see at least ten gorgeous girls with hot bods in christmass thongs. "George just lucky i guess!"

Huh no, i don't want all the girls reading this thread come running down here in Slovenia/europe Otherwise i don't have my bum in picture. I can only tell you it's tempting btw as far as i know you haven't posted yours yet either, and it's "ladies first". "George just lucky i guess!"

Yeah, but don't forget to take the fish out "George just lucky i guess!"

Talking about demoing icarus canopies... How much is it? is 31 days of demoing for free? well apart for the shipment which i'd pay off course? And would it be possible to send one demo crossfire 2 to Slovenia/europe? Or you don't send demo canopies abroad at all? Which sizes are your demo crossfires 2? "George just lucky i guess!"

i'm in... "George just lucky i guess!"

same with 45 degree turn during the flare. I don't think that is doable on wingloadings 1 or less for example. Or is it? I don't know because i never tried doing 520 front riser approach on student canopy loaded 0.8 "George just lucky i guess!"

What, still not 2000 posts ? Ok i'll help with this one. "George just lucky i guess!"

Sorry, but where is your gallery? "George just lucky i guess!"

I think there are far less dangerous things that you can do under canopy to prevent boredom. Sure if you downsize you won't be bored, because you'll have to use all your concentration only to land that thing, but imo that is very dangerous, and not only for youserlf for the others too Why don't you rather try doing all the things from billvon's list instead. or try swooping farther and farther by perfecting your technique. you can work on technique for much more then only 100 jumps. so it should keep you out of the boredom for a while. it's same in the air. when you start learning everything is new and fun and you are far from bored. but when you master the basic skills of freeflying for example. it takes hundrends of jumps only to perfect one single move. You can call that boring or not but that's the way it goes. The more you know (under canopy or anywhere else) the more it takes to learn something new. You just have to have a goal and you won't get bored. But it's your call whether you want to get to that goal "fast and dangerous" or "slow and safe"... p.s. I chose more like "fast and dangerous" in the past so don't really listen to me "George just lucky i guess!"

It all has been said. but you might need 2 or 3 extra rubber bands, since stows are closer together and you need to make more of them to stow the same length of the lines as before. I'm for the stows in the middle all the way too. My mirage g4 actually has them only in the middle. "George just lucky i guess!"
