  1. so i tried on my buddy's Nikes the other day who is the same height as me with slightly smaller feet. They were really tight on me... is this what i should expect from all Nike products? duh. 2. Take this for what you will, as i'v never dome experiments like this, but it would seem that holding the risers together would in actuality be putting pressure on the risers -- riser input. The scary part is that riser input of this type would tend to want to make the canopies turn toward eachother, probably not what you wanted. Hook, you have any input on this? 4. suit suit suit!!! get a 2piece if you like, for the reasons mentioned above.... The problem with jsut getting pants is that there is this overwhealming desire among people to put in freefly pants and a tshirt and then to try and learn to sit. This is GREAT for HD, but leaning to sit, you want MORE drag on your arms and (possibly)LESS on your legs (hence the wings & spandex on a sit suit). So all the people trying to learn to sit like this are making it harder on themselves. The 1 Piece is a good all-around, but the 2piece will allow you to custom things any way that you need. You really shouldn't go out in just freefly pants until you're flying headdown. 5. heh....... try an 10pt 2way(from 10k) , each point is a kiss-pass only dock (no grips).... no broken teeth... not even a bruised lip. goddamnit i love this shit! Landing without injury is not necessarily evidence that you didn't fuck up... it just means you got away with it this time
  6. use it? sure. depend on it? no... as a backup just in case as a backup, just in case. I don't go jumping my reserve every day, i don't go careening into things with my head, and i don't wait for my AAD to save me.. they're all backups. They're there if something goes wrong, i don't put them to the test on a daily basis. YES! EXACTLY! That's what SHOULD be done. But far too many people don't do it that way. What we're warning against is the seductiveness of letting it be your PRIMARY device for altitude awareness. It's easy enough thing to slide into, and we just want to stick that in peoples' minds before they start down the slope. -jerm Landing without injury is not necessarily evidence that you didn't fuck up... it just means you got away with it this time
  7. yes, but it's very easy for people to STOP looking at they don't have to anymore -- once the have their audible to remind them. THAT is there the danger lies. I like bill's idea of setting it 500ft lower than breakoff; if you hear it and you haven't broken off yet, guess what, you lost awareness. ok... using photoshop for image resizing is like using a couple of kilos of c4 to demolish a doghouse -- overkill. go to http://www.irfanview.com/english.htm, download the program,it's free, less than a meg to download, only slightly mroe on your drive, and has a MUCH smaller memory footprint than photoshop (and loads in about a 20th of the time). drag the image into the program, click image-resize, resize to a good size (keepa good check on the zoom meter at the bottom, if the image is the size of the screen and you're viewing ti 25%, it's WAY too big), save as a jpg and off you go. nice and easy. 9. heh.. lightnings are SUPPOSED to open like that, any snivel at all is less working time for the crewdogs... LeBlanc said he's offered to slow down the openings and the reaction form the crew community was a resounding NO. Monarchs , i've heard, are a sabre copy with more consistant openings -- always hard... YMMV Landing without injury is not necessarily evidence that you didn't fuck up... it just means you got away with it this time
  10. hrmm..... one of the issues i have with cobalts is a gripe i heard from a rig mnfr about how atair always recommends pilot-chutes smaller than what most everyone else recommends for pilot-chute sizing -- the conclusiong being that part of their "miracle of wonderful openings" is that they rely on less drag from the PC translating into getting things out more slowly... YMMV, it's hearsay opinion, but it makes sense. That being said, i DID like the way the cobalt flew. i've never flow a triathalon, but i've heard both ways about them... some people get slammed, some people have great openings..... both pretty consistantly. My further $0.02 is that no matter what i've done to pack my samurai (flat, pro, laving nose open and not pushing it in pn a propack) i have yet to get a hard opening on it... some quicker than others, but never been slammed. In fact, the packing instructions recommend doing nothing with the nose... again, YMMV, but that's mine :) Landing without injury is not necessarily evidence that you didn't fuck up... it just means you got away with it this time
  11. hmmm... where'd you jump that? Crosskeys just got an Alouette(sp?) looking nearly identical to that... did eddows take it somewhere else or is this becoming a popular helo in the states? Sher doesn't look like crosskeys in the pic.. *gak* Landing without injury is not necessarily evidence that you didn't fuck up... it just means you got away with it this time
  12. that's a good one... Nothing is often great, but if she is ging to wear something, i like is vanilla musk and sunflowers (E arden). of course it TOTALLY depends on the woman's natual pheremones and how they mix with their perfume/cologne... it smell nice on some people, not so nice on others, and can make others completely irrestistable Landing without injury is not necessarily evidence that you didn't fuck up... it just means you got away with it this time

well, no.. i believe him, i beliebe jig-a to be proper.. i just don't care to change how i say it :) the off thing about a GIF is that the G part of the acronym uses a soft g (graphic), yet, gif uses a harf G, hence "Jif" *shrug* was just confused cause bill seemes to be saying that the movie was wrong when, in facti, i believe it to be rightm and most of socity (including myself) to be wrong. gak Landing without injury is not necessarily evidence that you didn't fuck up... it just means you got away with it this time

see.. i always thought giga, i like the sound of giga better.... i still use giga... but my physics prof insisted that jiga is the 'proper' pronunciation..... who IS the authority on this, or are we jsut saying "tom-ah-toe"? 18. how about the stretch of the imagination that you "hop" out and "pop" open your main? a 6k exit doesn't mean a 2.5k deployment, it may very well mean a 5.995K deployment. One can hop&pop from 14k... it not necessarily about the altitude. -jerm Landing without injury is not necessarily evidence that you didn't fuck up... it just means you got away with it this time

  21. short version: Too much fun.... Longer version: saw it when i was a kid, parents said it was crazy... forgot about it. Thought about it near the end of high-school, was too poor... forgot about it. Got offered a decent-paying job mid-way through college, and the same week a buddy called up and told me he'd gone.. oh yeah, i wanted to try that. I set it up with some people to go to tandems one saturday in august. Thursday i couldn't wait anymore and i drove to the DZ and made the first jump. Under canopy i looked up at my TM and said "where do i sign up?" Friday i did the FJC, saturday i took heather with me to the DZ (she was the only person in the group who actually went) and did my 2nd tandem and first IAD. 4 years, 873 jumps, 1 broken leg, 1 reserve ride later...... i love this shit. Really, though, i was just trying to impress HeatherB Landing without injury is not necessarily evidence that you didn't fuck up... it just means you got away with it this time
  22. Is my DZ the only one that DOESN'T illuminate the field for landing? There are runway lights for finding the airport, but the landing area is largely unilluminated. Isn't lighting up the landing area kinda cheating? Landing without injury is not necessarily evidence that you didn't fuck up... it just means you got away with it this time

  25. For someone who has stood up all (nearly all) of their landings, i don't think a .77 loading on a large docile canopy is really too much of an issue, let alone at all comparable to jumping a sub-100 stiletto. Just because it's done differently than what's done at your DZ doesn't make it wrong or dangerous. It's all about the pilot and the training. I STARTED on a sabre190, and stood everything up until well after i was done student... and i'm not alone Does that make me or my instructors reckless and dangerous? No, it means that things were done differently than what you were used to, which isn't necessarily wrong or dangerous.
