Im impressed.

umm... let me ask you something: When your doing 4way FS do you honestly take pauses to check the airspace below ? When someone at your DZ is doing 15 way headdown do you think they are going to keep looking down just in case theres an aircraft under there ?
-
IMO hitting an aircraft in freefall has little to do with the prevailing weather conditions in freefall. It is nearly impossible for the aircraft pilot to avoid collision with something small that is coming from above. They simply wont be able to see you before you hit the aircraft. As for the jumper seeing the aircraft in freefall, it has a little bit more relevance, but still I would say the chances of the jumper spotting an aircraft below and taking precaution to avoid is very slim. How often does an average skydiver even pay attention to surrounding airspace ? Not very often. To some degree maby at some solo jumps, trackjumps etc.. Under canopy this is a whole different thing and under canopy it obviously has a lot of importance to have VFR conditions. Dont take me wrong, I do think jumping through thick layers of cloud has a lot of impact on safety, but not because it makes collisions with aircrafts more likely. Personally I would be more afraid of collisions with fellow jumpers..

I think this is a valid conversation. I agree with Lazlo that the student indeed is very well in the center of attention in the photos provided. However, to wuffos it might be very hard to realize what exactly is happening on those photos. Most wuffos couldnt tell this is a tandem skydive unless they were told this first. This also has much importance when considering the composition of the photo and its degree of succes in the eyes of the customer. IMO the customer wants a photo of him/her being in freefall, not just a photo of his/her face.
-
I understand what you are saying and I think the basic idea of composing the student as the center of attention is ofcourse very noble. On the other hand I would much rather have these 8mm pics of my 1st tandem then the average Full_auto_with_kit_lens and staying on the same spot through out the whole dive. These are much more unique IMO and I do think that the photographer is also part of the dive as much as the TM is. No particular reason to always strictly refrain from appearing in the photo.

Nice pics man ! The peleng does seriously suffer from flare (see the pic with the tits), but still I think it is a good value lens. I think I need to get me one also for some inside freeflying. Actually Im convinced now it works very nice with tandems also, since you get the whole picture with the drogue also.. BTW. You have any video of those tandem exits you guys do ? Id be intrested to see..

YEah.. Real swoopers have their toggles taken away since they just induce more drag.. Cool photo !

Ok, I asked the gear store in empuria and they ask 301 euros for it. (including tax) Paraconcepts charges 153 euros without taxes. I guess I wont have to ask any other gear store in europe. I just order it from the states and pay customs + VAT and still pay substantially less..

Im looking for a lineset for XF2 109. Can I order a set from inside EU ? (I rather order it from EU so that I wont have to pay customs)

Choosing initiation altitude at different dropzones
BMFin replied to sabrepilot25's topic in Swooping and Canopy Control
I believe I mentioned this in my post ? But ofcourse its not too bad to mention it again. -
Why not go for 2x still 2x video + flash while your at it.

I jump a pc-120 + 400D + 10-22 (and 430EX sometimes) The difference in woight with 30d and 400D for example isnt that big. 30D: 700g 1.5lb 400D: 556g 1.2lb difference is about 150 grams or 0.3lb

Looks really cool. I wonder how much that will weigh with the viewfinder and mic stripped off. The XL H1 weighs 3750 fully loaded, so I guess its going to be noticably less. I could live with that.

30d is not too heavy. Both are ok. When you are ready to mount a camera, you will know this your self.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MeZPFz1c188 The part where the bmx guy picks up the camera is priceless ! The end where they jump on the homeless dude is not funny at all though... Anyways, havent laughed so hard in a long time. Hope you enjoy ! I hear it was a Hasselblad 500C/M + 30mm fisheye and the photographer had it insured.

New Digital Rebel... this one's gonna be a hit
BMFin replied to pilotdave's topic in Photography and Video
I dont think it is really practical as everyday video camera. For some special projects or other work, it most likely does offer more quality, but not practiaclity in everyday use. -

Some video samples and comparisons between 5dmII can be seen here IMO for 800$ thats some serious quality. -
Ok. The reason why I was wondering was that it was said on the airtec website that : ""Even when reaching 78 mph for a moment, the Expert CYPRES would not activate. The reason is that CYPRES does much more than trigger based on measured descent rate and altitude, as it analyses the situation the skydiver is in" " I understand the speed should exeed 78 and also maintain past 78 for a certain amount of time before it will fire (between 750 and 130), but I have no idea how long this time is. Would be interesting to know though.. I guess airtec doesnt give that info in public ? But im sure if an airtec representative said it would have fired then it was so.
-
May I ask you how do you know if an expert cypres would have fired ?

Just so you know, exposure program is different thing than picture style choice in the canon lineup. You can still shoot manual exposure, but use landscape picture style. When you shoot JPG tandems and dont have time to PP the photos, then its a good idea to look at which picture style you want to use. When shooting RAW, it has no real significance..
