  1. Sorry but I had to reply to correct this information. This is the wing loading information for the Sabre2: Nov Int Adv Exp Max 135 115 128 135 176 216 150 135 150 165 195 240 170 153 170 187 221 255 190 171 190 209 228 266 210 189 210 231 252 273 Now if you also look at the Stilleto you will notice the weights are higher but after asking PD they said that not only are the weights posted for the structure of the canopy but also the expected canopy experience of the buyer. In other words they expect a less experienced or more conservative pilot to buy the Sabre2 than the Stilleto. Just food for thought. "Five days? But I'm angry now!"
  2. Ahhhhh - Winter jumping ain't all that bad! It beats sitting around waiting for the spring. Plus the planes are lighter so you can stretch out! "Five days? But I'm angry now!"
  3. I've had two Tempo reserve rides and while I didn't think they were the best flying thing I never had a built in turn or any other unsafe problem. Now they were both non-terminal cutaways but they opened smooth and on heading and got me down alive.
  4. Cool. I'll go for it. I'm at the ranch and while we have dust it's not that bad. I will be out at Eloy at one point and that's when it'll turn brown. I'll just cut it away and stick it in the washing machine. I'm sure that will be work out fine "Five days? But I'm angry now!"
  5. I'm mixing royal blue and white. I'm doing royal blue rib where the top and bottom skin is white and white ribs where they're royal blue. Silver stablizers. Don't ask me why. "Five days? But I'm angry now!"
  6. From my own experience in an emergency exit at 5,000 we staggered our openings but it was for all intensive purposes a "hop&pop." This was because as you mentioned we all had to get out right away - no real safty separation. So the first guy took it down to 3 and we worked up from there. It was an Otter so we had duplicates and jerks not pulling where they were supposed to because it was too high, but we all got down safely. I would say just listen and follow instructions. Per your first question - I would go for my reserve if I had to leave that low. JMO. "Five days? But I'm angry now!"
  7. Oh, ok, but one other question then (and it seems pretty obvious but I thought I would ask anyway) is there a packing volume difference between the 550 and the 825? And if I could get your opinion - I'm 160-165. Should I play it safe and go with the 825? "Five days? But I'm angry now!"
  8. Cool. Thanks guys. "Five days? But I'm angry now!"
  9. Is white on a main a bad idea. I don't see it too frequently and was wondering if that was because it fades quicker or anything along those lines. "Five days? But I'm angry now!"
  10. Ok, but I'm placing an order to PD and they're asking me if I want 535 lb Dacron, 550 lb Microline or 825 lb Microline. I want the same kind of line I have now on my Spectre, but of course I don't know what kind of line I have. Does anyone know which one I want? "Five days? But I'm angry now!"
  11. Hey, I know that first rig is expensive, but I would try to get the two rigs. First it's more likely to fit each of you better if you buy closer to your own size. And, what I think is the most important reason, so you two can jump together. JMO John "Five days? But I'm angry now!"
  12. While I agree with everyone here those who do crew may find it useful. But a simple VOX walkie-talkie could work in this situation. Red Leader Standing by... "Five days? But I'm angry now!"
  13. Besides AFF will actually know how to pull where as S/L would have to learn that after habits have been formed. Practice doesn't make perfect. Practice makes permanent. "Five days? But I'm angry now!"
  14. To be sure I'm no expert but if more energy was key to nice landing why would downwinders leave so many with shame-stains on their rigs? "Five days? But I'm angry now!"
  15. You know I always heard the same although admittedly I've never actually practiced this. But since you have the experience of having done this now let me ask: was the flare particularly sensative? I've always imagined that if I were to yank my rear risers as I would my toggles I would pop up a lot. I've flown rear risers and even flared a bit high up but as we all know it's hard to get a very good perspective on these things in the sky. Curious, Thanks. "Five days? But I'm angry now!"
  16. Sorry. I actually responded to this yesterday but I guess it didn't take. I'll begin the same way. I am not a rigger or an expert on this subject but I have done a similar thing you're looking to do. I put a 150 in my J4 which is bulit for a 190. After consulting riggers and people more informed than me I figured out how to do it. Javelin's are actually pretty much the only container I know you can do this with because of where the closing loop is. This allows you to sinch up the flaps and by shortening the closing loop create a tight close on your pin. I would of course run it by your friendly local rigger and even ask them to do it for you if you're unsure of your ability. I did RW and sit flying in it and didn't have a problem. I would just make sure there wasn't "too" much room in there. Good luck and be safe. "Five days? But I'm angry now!"
  17. Does anyone here know anything about the Relative Workshop freefly PUD (or MOD I believe they call it)? Is it like the one Mirage has? I've seen another kind on an older wings container that when you pulled your pilot chute it right away pulled the pin which just does not seem like a safe idea to me. I'd like to get this option but want to make sure it's similar to the Mirage system before I order it. "Five days? But I'm angry now!"
  18. Good point. Actually from what I've seen here I will definately opt of the Trulock. Thanks everyone. "Five days? But I'm angry now!"
  19. This past weekend someone lost a bonehead with a PC 9 attached to it. Both survived and it was pretty interesting watching the fall. Lots of spinning blue sky and then ground. "Five days? But I'm angry now!"

    Lubrication

Ok that's actually something I've never done. I've been switching my main recently and the cable looks good. Guess I've been lucky. But what about making sure the housing is clean. I'm sure gunk gets lodged up there too. Does anyone have a reco on clean those? "Five days? But I'm angry now!"

    Lubrication

I missed the thread earlier - was it stated how often cutaway cables should be cleaned. Once a month seems like over kill. No pun intended. "Five days? But I'm angry now!"

Merrick, Thanks! That was exactly what I needed to see. "Five days? But I'm angry now!"
  23. Make reservations quickly though. You can find hotel contact information at www.ranchskydive.com or call Manifest (especially during the week) and they will give you a few numbers. But do plan on camping. The night life here at the Ranch rocks and it gets even better with more people. "Five days? But I'm angry now!"

Michele, I love my Spectre and try this out. The Spectre has a great glide if you know how to get it. As was mentioned in one post the more speed you have the better but unless you really know what you're doing. But a good plane can be achieve on a standard approach to. Use a two stage flare. Always look 45 degrees in front of you, never straight down. As you get ready to do your flare snap it to half brakes. Not all the way. Half brakes will let you glide along the ground a bit. Not like a swoop and not incredibly fast, but don't put your feet down yet because then you end up running it out and you shouldn't need to do that. Just after you get into your little glide finish off your flare. This will bring you upright and softly onto your feet. Remember to flare evenly so you don't get turned off to one side. I hope that helps. "Five days? But I'm angry now!"
  25. I've seen these before but noone has ever been exactly enthused about having them. Can anyone who does have them or did have them share their opinions or thoughts on these? Werer they tough to unstow, restow. Are they worth it? "Five days? But I'm angry now!"
