I Just Pushed a C++ GPX Reader Up to Github
Scrumpot replied to FlyingRhenquest's topic in The Bonfire
Commodore 64, eh? Fancy-Schmancy!! My 1st personal experience with "home/PC" (outside of mag-tape & punch-card mega-room-size facilities) was when I was working for Radio Shack back in '77 - and we all had to have "advanced training" on the (was gonna revolutionize the world!) TRS-80. coitus non circum - Moab Stone -
AFF 7 and I want to have fun!!!
Scrumpot replied to justintime1983's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Truly saddened to hear of this. As someone who logged into here, no doubt to get in touch with "evidence of his being" / past - I hope you are finding peace. As we say in skydiving, and I will bestow here, as no matter how "novice" still at the time Justin clearly was at time of his passing - he still was a skydiver (and therefore "one of us") none-the-less: BSBD. Best wishes to you as well, that you find peace and solace now, in your reflection of your loved-one's life. Sincere condolences on your loss. coitus non circum - Moab Stone -
Great perspective feedback - thank you for posting, and WELCOME!

Only problem there, John - is this OP is reporting this on his/her AFF-4 jump. As you know, "tracking" is a TLO at that level, not even brought up yet, let alone taught/learned. I suspect the OP is merely mis-using the term "coach" here, in their post. coitus non circum - Moab Stone

And another fairly recent anomaly resurging - "ghost" sellers, whose ads look good (even have pictures, etc.) because they are copying OLD (but not that old) ads of other, prior legitimate sales - and they get you to pay (even through paypal - they can open & close & move on pretty quickly; rinse/repeat from accounts even there) for something you will NEVER receive. It pays to be a little less impulsive, and do some independent CHECKING on any transaction - from either side of the equation - and yes, this is a very good reminder of that. coitus non circum - Moab Stone

Actually, I was also a participant in that particular jump too, Ed. I've only been flying paying video now, since early last season. You & I have been on several big-ways together over the years. Guess I'm just not that memorable. Although, as you know with bigways, that's probably actually a "good" thing. coitus non circum - Moab Stone

So, you think you're ready for a high-performance canopy? Can you do everything consistently, already - as seen on THIS list? At 100 jumps, you've probably barely even had sufficient opportunity to have even tried all of these, let alone having successfully accomplished them. Just something to also consider, is all. The Mfr should be able to tell you which canopies (and what size/ranges) will fit in their rig before / as you are ordering it. coitus non circum - Moab Stone

FAA Regulations on Recording Your Own Video
Scrumpot replied to fade1800's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Of course not. That would make for crap video, and totally wreck the entire affect of having the video in the 1st place - - - all that head craning around inside the airplane to actually even BOTHER to check! - You were sitting, what we call "student". You are *WRONG* - it is in fact VERY EASY to turn your head from that position and VERY CLEARLY SEE (and feel - not just "double-tap" once you've gotten up) whether your handle is clear or not! Yeah, that must be it. ...It couldn't possibly be anything else, right? - - - *WRONG again! Freeze-framing your video at @ 15.5sec, then stepping frame-by-frame in FACT actually shows the pilots headset cord to the LEFT - exactly as you are trying to assert it is not. Now how long it is, and if it could have POSSIBLY been snaked over his lap, then down onto your handle, then further either wrapped around it or snagged it to the point that it then actually pulled your handle, then - without also pulling the pilot's headset (maybe even off) too - as that is where it would need to be "anchored", is actually rather, and especially without him knowing it, to himself have been able to just simply tell you that when he landed (there would be no reason for him not - even if to only just simply inform you ...no "liability" or cross-blaming needed) - seems highly unlikely. Now, do you want to LEARN anything from this - or would you rather insist on trying to assign "negligence" and deflect blame? How you now answer this last question of mine will dictate as to whether or not I either spend (or waste) any more of my time on this with you here, or if it is even worth ANY of our bothers with you, to perhaps even try. Your call. coitus non circum - Moab Stone -

Scrumpot replied to fade1800's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
You mean other than making sure your handles were CLEAR, and not snagged on ANYTHING (pilots headset cable or anything else) before exiting? Of course we see you did make sure though your camera I see, was on and "all set". Oh yeah, that takes care of it completely, right? Clearly, you have nothing to learn here then, do you? - coitus non circum - Moab Stone -
FAA Regulations on Recording Your Own Video
Scrumpot replied to fade1800's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
True enough. And fair enough (although the USPA SIM section as cited - is certainly not "arbitrary" - ). So then, why don't you just call around to various DZ's and find one that (arbitrarily - see how that word more correctly/appropriately applies?) chooses which USPA recommendations they would like to adopt, versus which ones they don't - that matches your philosophies of what you happen to want to, or think you should (or not) be bound by? I'm sure even this DZO would absolutely agree with you on that much. ...Go for it. And your video goggles you say captured this? Okay, I'll bite. Please expand upon this. coitus non circum - Moab Stone -

Scrumpot replied to fade1800's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Okay - So, it's a USPA recommendation, that has been (apparently) adopted by this DZO as a rule (at his DZ), and not an FAR. So then, what is now your intent - with this information? - - Go back & "slap the DZO in the face" with it, and insist you should be allowed to do whatever you want? As if it is not an FAR - you then therefore - must have now an entitlement to it, perhaps? Let us know how that goes for you. coitus non circum - Moab Stone -

What does an RSL unarguably do for you, in all actuality? (I'll tell you, where clearly you don't seem to KNOW ...or at least consider) ...It takes away YOUR OPTION / CHOICE of when to activate your reserve, upon break-away. What does a skyhook do for you, now even over and above what the aforementioned "standard RSL" does? (again - bet you haven't even considered) ...It adds ANOTHER LAYER OF COMPLICATION even further on top of #1 above. "Darn right" - It is a choice. ...and it needs to be RESPECTED as a choice. - THINK coitus non circum - Moab Stone

Dude's Pilot Chute Hanging Out (VIDEO)
Scrumpot replied to jesseweyher's topic in Safety and Training
There ya go folks - And this quote right here (and this MENTALITY) is exactly what gets everyone (potentially) in trouble, and really (still) frightens me about this video, and its now still on-going posting dialogue. Dave Lepka has hit it on this one (as he oft does) right on the head. But instead of CONSIDERING, and LEARNING - we have the "it was not me / not my place" tacit response. Not trying to pick on you Jesse - obviously, you're new. And your posting this video is both helpful and appreciated. Now that you have though - and presuming you did it to elicit a (potential) learning experience, not only just for yourself but for others too... please - do just that. Stop. Listen. ...and LEARN! Being dismissive as "it was not my place" - and/or it should have been somebody else's is exactly what we are saying is "allows" these sorts of things to "just happen" otherwise, in the 1st place. You don't need 500 jumps and an uber-shit-load of experience at that dropzone to even at least speak up and say something like "Shouldn't somebody be helping these guys?" - Rather than just sitting by and "allowing" just "whatever" ... to just blithely go on, all around you. coitus non circum - Moab Stone -
Opinion on Outside Video positioning during Tandem Deployment
Scrumpot replied to Scrumpot's topic in Photography and Video
Putting myself in the position of the camera-flyer in this vid, I found myself literally cringing (not flashing a "V" sign) when I saw that drogue release from there, and the tandem pair "drop" from the "trap door" RIGHT AT ME (him/her)!! - Was it just me? Edit to Add: Wish I could just "loop" that clip from right there, to only like 5:30 or so - and re-post it, to better show the affect (and my eyes widening) I am referring to. Thank goodness that tandem pair had a relatively quick "snatch" - or again.... I cringe. I'm sorry, I just cringe!! coitus non circum - Moab Stone -
Think of how you are going to mount it, and be sure you have access as you would like it, to your mem-card especially. A friend of mine recently picked up either the T3i or 4i (can't remember which vs which) then found the mem card slots were on THE BOTTOM of the camera Body - making quick swap-outs for editing "on-the-fly" or worse yet - when faced with a turn-around load, and back-to-back customers, and videos to edit/render now backing up, in of itself, a huge pain! I think it may also depend on which version (Asia/EUR/USA) model you are buying. - So again, just be sure for yourself, in advance - and avoid any surprises! It's a great camera though in just about every other possible aspect. - Enjoy! coitus non circum - Moab Stone

Opinion on Outside Video positioning during Tandem Deployment
Scrumpot replied to Scrumpot's topic in Photography and Video
I don't know whether this belongs here, or maybe even in the Tandem Instructors Forum. ...Maybe BOTH - for it's insight and potential input from the TM perspective as well? In any case - while just surfing some random youtube videos to get ideas on differing possible tandem camera-flying styles/technique, I came across THIS video - which I am starting here with my link, right at the spot (5:20 into the total vid) that gave me pause. As an outside vid flyer... Did seeing this, and putting yourself in this vid-flyers perspective right there (I tend to envision I am flying that slot, whenever I am watching vids now ...and "comparing/contrasting" ...it is a CURSE! ) - as if you were the one flying this video, just make you cringe? - Or was it/is it just me? coitus non circum - Moab Stone -

Wonder what makes your DZ.com surfing experience so slow?
Scrumpot replied to Scrumpot's topic in The Bonfire
Nope. These are sites you (dropzone.com) are affiliating/controlling/directing the pings. You will see that my settings are instead, actually blocking them. Granted this chart is result of maybe 4 or 5 pages of uncleared accumulation - but at anywhere from 4 (on the low end) to 12-15 (and lets say 8 on average) unique (it does not show duplicates) "collusions" per dropzone.com page request - that's quite the portfolio you guys have now got "goin' on"! coitus non circum - Moab Stone
