I live in the Fraser Valley- Abbotsford B.C. Canada where the kill of about 19 million chickens and turkeys is happening in a bid to wipe out contagious avian flu. The explanation is "to stop the spread of this disease and to stamp it out" the best way to get the industry back on track. What I do not understand is why or how the affected area is sweeping. Regardless of government tightened bio-security measures, the contagion spread beyond a 10-kilometre hot zone (where my home d.z. is located) that was created around the first affected farms in Abbotsford where 400,000 birds had already been ordered slaughtered. The hot zone is now extending from Greater Vancouver to Hope, a two-hour drive east, north to the mountains and south to the U.S. border. This is going to be devastating for the poultry industry. A representative sample of birds from each flock will be tested for avian flu and contaminated flocks will be destroyed while those that are virus-free will be slaughtered for food????????? The B.C. poultry industry says it generates more than $1 billion a year for the provincial economy and employs more than 5,000 people. Eighty per cent of B.C.'s poultry products come from the Fraser Valley. The CFIA announced two workers who dealt with the birds caught mild forms of the H7 avian flu that is not considered a threat to humans and have recovered. I prefer to now land in the peas rather than swooping thru the grass---and not eat or handle any chicken or easter sunday turkey lurkey. SMiles

Hey, I am confused- if you are inside center- why are you giving the count??? I cannot imagine giving the count from the inside- outside gives count. Inside gets ready in door- with their body as close to outside as possible- takes chest grip and locks eye contact ---when ready gives "nod" to outside or "hut"..... Outside gives count- ready- set - and on the "g" in "go" inside leaves rolling out the door- anticipating no arm extension. The launch is practised in dirt dive and also from the aircraft before take off. Everyone in the team gets comfortable with count outside gives. Takes team work and everyone reads outside centers body language with the count......... with practise all goes well SMiles

Not a single redeeming factor?? Are you suggesting that the movie did not acurately portrait the effects of over use of speed (prescription drugs) to loose weight/ or the destruction caused by heroin addiction?? Are these not redeeming factors?? SMiles

Wow- the best skating I've seen in my life (Mens Worlds) Ya- Plushenko is rawk solid..quadruple toe loop-triple toe loop double loop...quadruple toeloop-triple double combo- 5 triples..problems with both knees and facing surgery at end of season. Joubert is also right up there close to king... but Johnny Weir was my favorite- absolutely kick ass plus took my breath away, I am amazed at his pure young raw talent and what a sweetheart Look out Sasha Cohen also- what talent and beauty!! Can see them both being supreme in the World anytime. SMiles

Last night I was flicking thru t.v. channels after thoroughly enjoying the best skating I've seen in my life (mens free skate at Worlds) and found Requiem for a Dream. When I initially began watching it, I had no idea what to expect. Within less than five minutes, I knew I was watching something different. I recognized Ellen Burstyn from the Exorcist...and then became thoroughly hooked into watching the show. The soundtrack was incredible and Ellen Burstyn wired on speed ?...she should have won a award for her acting. Jennifer Connolly /Jared Leto and Marlon Wayans characters come in crystal clear with excellent performances. Talk about brutal and honest, with erratic, chaotic, editing styles to piece together a puzzle about the pains of addiction and destruction. The lure..then a desire..then simply using..then obsession. Leto's arm sickened me, so graphic it made me cringe...by the end of the movie I felt stunned---certainly proved very thought provoking. One of the three most powerful movies I have ever seen---leaves chills down your spine for it's honesty and unforgiving lessons. I cannot believe I had missed watching this movie...4 years ago SMiles

2 unique facts about myself: 1. I have 3 chronic diseases. 2. I have injected myself at a bare minimum of 10,220 times with insulin. (daily for 28 years) (Diabetes-Type 1-diagnosed at age 10) The first 12 years of injections was with insulin derived from pork and/or beef- then changed to Humilin insulin for the last 16 yrs. Despite its name, (Humilin) this insulin does not come from human beings! It is made in a factory using a chemical process called recombinant DNA technology. I have not ever been hospitalized or had any health related problems due to diabetes. SMiles

Singer, songwriter, filmmaker and rock 'n' roll veteran Neil Young wants to talk about vegetable oil. -- he's just launched a month-long concert tour to complement the theatrical release of 'Greendale,' his first film in 22 years. But for anyone familiar with the project's storyline, which tackles such weighty subjects as religious warfare, corporate duplicity, the erosion of privacy and the destruction of natural resources, it will come as no surprise that its creator is eager to discuss not merely the tour itself but the tour's means of transportation. 'I have 17 diesel vehicles, and they're all running on vegetable oil farmed by American farmers,' Young said SMiles

I kill small furry animals... (or Deep Thoughts on Gardening)
smiles replied to Shotgun's topic in The Bonfire
sorry off topic but for the purpose of consumer products-------------- --pig entrails, brains, bones, nerve tissue, and gore--are taken to a rendering plant called West Coast Reduction Ltd. in my city. The plant turns animal bones, guts, fish, blood, pig entrails, used restaurant grease into thousands of consumer products, like lipstick base, soaps, shampoos, and perfumes. These commodities that improve human appearance are shipped all over the world. SMiles -

In B.C. Canada we have something called "fair pharmacare coverage" ...so depending on your earnings each year you are charged (I pay first $2,000. medical for the year and anything over that amount I do not pay..) Do not pay for dr. appt., mri, cat scan, operations, birth of babies, hospital fees, x-rays, lab work...only for perscribed meds at drug store--a $5. fee for each physio appt. and $20. charge for ambulance fee. At work I am covered for extended health with blue cross insurance so- every year send in receipts for all medical payments made-and get back everything over $100. paid. Not all get this coverage thru their work. Also have dental coverage through blue cross which covers 80% basic (cleaning-Xrays-fillings)60% (root canals, bridges, crowns) SMiles

shit....sucks major.... I cannot imagine the pain----follow all instructions you are given to allow healing- and do your very best not to re-injure. snapped my ACL in 1/2 - had tears in meniscus that needed surgery to cut the flaps (stop knee from locking) that was done after swelling decreased from initial injury (4 months later) --was told I would be able to walk out of hospital but couldn't as knee took months for swelling to go down after that so basically crutches for 6 months or more. ...easy to say but rest is so important--stay off it, protect it....inflamation sucks and stays inflamed so you cannot use it while it is healing..ice packs...keep it elevated... -- took 1 year before in good shape again- getting by great now as long as I keep doing exercise to strenghten the 3 ligaments I have in that knee so you can get by with 3..unsure about 2. --you have done the impossible!! (taking one handed pic) -absolutely gorgeous tat- you deserve to be so proud -you have excellent taste. Looking forward to seeing a pic (two handed) when it has completely healed..skin color is the hardest to get on film. Was messing with a 6 mp digital cannon rebel today (best output I've ever seen) For my pic of my back tat I added depth to skin color in photoshop (attached)....cheat cheat cheat.. I took your image and gave a try at just using a skin color background in my flash program-I boobed on trying to outline heart and couldn't match color. SMiles -
