  1. Now that Jerry has already given a helpful answer... Black mesh? Ask Shah and be told it's only useful to be used for covering beautiful girls' legs (and more) SCNR The sky is not the limit. The ground is. The Society of Skydiving Ducks
  2. "I don't know"... but anyway, let's write some embarrassingly pathetic remarks? JFYI: - You can't "steal" land from animals. - The First Nations WERE the first to come to the Americas (via the Bering Strait, other ways are disputed) and did not steal any land from any human beings as there had not been any before there. What force? You constructed / fabricated something and now add on "forcibly entry" to consolidate your claims. That there sure had been wars between different tribes after they had moved there is a different aspect. Yeah, the good old "The victim is the aggressor" argument. May it been fabricated, it serves Joe Sixpack's prejudice. Stammtischgefasel! The sky is not the limit. The ground is. The Society of Skydiving Ducks
  3. The rig you're up to is OK and of very good quality and I can recommend it. The NRG is nice and offers a broad range of flight characteristics that makes it suitable for both beginners and intermediates. You may jump rental gear to get more practice before you jump the 180, but if your coaches tell you it's OK, they are the ones who know you. The Speed reserve is a fine piece, have jumped one already. The size you chose is questionable, I'd go for a bigger one. I have a 135 Speed but have 1600+ jumps (and did a ride on another 135 Speed at 1400+ jumps at about the same weight...) I didn't find it too challenging but reserves are no longer slowish/sluggish! The Speed is a modern reserve canopy, bear that in mind ;-) Hence, I strongly recommend a bigger one, again. All in all, go for the Paratec gear. P.S.: If you look up my profile you'll find I have a Teardrop VIPER, which is very similar to the NeXt Century. It's a little better when it comes to value for money, and I like a pop top reserve better. But again, the NeXt is a very good rig. The sky is not the limit. The ground is. 4. Congrats. You'll like it! Enjoy the few years when they are nice and cute and cuddly (Just kidding...) Reminds of a joke: Student coming late tell his Prof: Sorry for being late but I've just become a dad. Prof: Well, then... erm... boy or girl? Student: You got to ask me in 9 months. Lame, I know. 5. Yeah, happens now and then. Once you tell the diver on the ground to leave you alone when obviously (double)checking they will understand. But what really annoys me to the point I tell "STOP IT!" is when jumpers either tell my students silly things (usually remarks about bad equipment and / or "going to die") or even touch 'em. "I just wanted to check the chest strap!" - "Ever thought that I AM obligated and GOING to do this?" Has only happened two times yet but these were the two occasions I said something. The jumpers should have known and after that they didn't do it again. The sky is not the limit. The ground is. The Society of Skydiving Ducks
  6. Well, I also felt bad for it... sort of. OTOH I was relieved when this fellow said he wanted to take the goose home - I don't have any spare space for a goose in our apartment and my wife would have been "delighted" if I had brought the goose home I never had any "traumatic" experience with waterfowl except from a swan that squeezed my hand when I fed him. But nobody eats swan, huh? BTW: Congrats on your level 8, I feel proud for you. Didn't I tell ya you'll like it? The sky is not the limit. The ground is. The Society of Skydiving Ducks
  7. Had to look this one up. Well, don't complain the Europeans now and then call you "Colonials" Apart from that: Once I know a bird I can't eat it any more. Reminds me of my childhood. There was a biiiiig tank full of carps in the fish department of the supermarket were my mom used to buy groceries etc. I often spent some time after school watching the fish in the tank there. One day mom took me there to buy a carp and the poor creature was scooped out of the tank and brutally (that was the way it appeared to me) murdered right in front of me. No wonder I refused eating it (and I still don't line carp, but there are other reasons, too) The sky is not the limit. The ground is. The Society of Skydiving Ducks
  8. Depends on who wins the goose, or to be more precise, it's three geese. Some years ago for three categories of accuracy (rounds, ram male, ram female) but changed into accuracy (male, female) and FS (3-way competition just for fun, see) Video of the three geese presented at the award ceremony in 2006. They could watch the competition during the day (photo) Two of the geese were lucky and found shelter at a farm, one of which was the goose my team (I was videot) won. The goose we won in 2007 ended in one of the jumper's oven. I like the "find refuge at a farm" option better. The sky is not the limit. The ground is. The Society of Skydiving Ducks
  9. As long as you are able to get onto your belly within let's say 2-3 secs, you shouldn't be scared even with the ground so "close" - you're already confident, build on this. The sky is not the limit. The ground is. The Society of Skydiving Ducks
  10. You got to provide the horizontal speed. A round won't be as much affected as a ram air chute will, just to give an example The sky is not the limit. The ground is. The Society of Skydiving Ducks
  11. Wish you a lot of fun. Wanted to go sky diving tomorrow but it was cancelled due to high winds (predicted in forecast.) BTW: Suitable weather provided I'll take part in the "Goose Jump Competition" ("Gänsespringen") next week. Got nothing to do with geese nor is it a disrespectful term for "Jumping girls" - The winner team is awarded a (living) goose, hence the name
  12. I should have elaborated a little. It's obvious that helmets in skydiving are not really meant for protection from "impact" as there is no sense in attempting so. But they are thought for protection from blows and bumps, some of which might be dealt with quite some force - which leads to "should be in good condition so it won't prematurely break in places it should resist." 15. I first had problems exiting in a stable way but wasn't intimidated because I just arched and - snap! - there I was back on my belly. In fact, I loved the dive exits from a plane because I had real issues with the dive exit from the 3m-board in PE (when I was 14) - the dive exit from 4000 meters provides wayyyyy more "space" and you just dive into air and there's no water crashing into your face. My AFF instructor told me: 'Member you was a kid and slid down a slide face-first in the playground? Wasn't that fun? How much fun will it be sliding down some hundred meters, huh? And right he was. Just remember to present your belly and your chest to the relative wind. (I forgot the first time and tumbled, see above.) Your instructor will tell you how to do it, just practise at the mocker. You'll sure love it. There's a jump log of a female jumper from Austria. Unfortunately, she discarded it (was a source of inspiration for you to find someone admit they were scared but managed to process etc) but it's still more or less available through the wayback machine. You'd have to translate it, though (or have it done by a translation service such as Google) Andrea (that's the girl) wrote how she loved to dive exit and do flips and somersaults... 16. I'd scrap it and buy a new one - it's safety gear after all. You might consider the FreeZR. It's similar to your previous helmet. Mine has never had any fogging issues and I've used it since 2006. But even if there's a little fog (on very cold days with humidity up in the 90% range) it's very easy to lift up the visor and everything is OK. Just looked up the price: It's near the prize of the (undiscounted) Phantom. The sky is not the limit. The ground is. The Society of Skydiving Ducks
  17. That a wonderhog rig? If yes: Some folks here still jump SPEKON rigs. They built (and still build) RS 16/3 canopies which are f*cking good for accuracy. The rigs, however are... well, at least not really suited for freefly, so to say My first "real" jump was with a round, too. But that one was steerable at least and allowed for a somewhat decent landing, PLF provided. Was an RS/4 which was similar to rounds jumped by East German paratroopers (who jumped RS/8 or RS/9) Didn't broke anything but didn't like jumping S/L and rounds any more after jump 5 and opted for AFF The sky is not the limit. Mallard phone

Why not? Erm... to be honest, I dunno exactly. Have always liked ducks, started collecting them in GDR times (when duck figurines except from bath toys were scarce) and kept doing so. I also like watching them. They can walk, fly, swim and dive. They're just like us parrotshooters, huh? The sky is not the limit. The ground is. The Society of Skydiving Ducks

    Mallard phone

That's the only disadvantage - it only rings. But at least it's what most mobiles provide as "Doctor's phone" ring tone - back to Duckie Mallard Have a nice quack tirade as my "ring tone" on my mobile - people's looks are sometimes priceless when it goes off near them

I already mentioned that I collect ducks? Well, not real ducks but all kinds of figurines etc. Well, I stumbled upon a mallard duck on amazon.de and there it is, see pic attached. I know there are mallard phones in the US as well, made of wood with their eyes glowing and (pityful attempt of) quacking but mine looks cooler, hehe. Well, just wanted to share and show off The sky is not the limit. The ground is. The Society of Skydiving Ducks

  25. Our rigger told me that slim chest straps have been detected to be the cause of cracked AAD displays in some rigs: When the display is - more or less unprotected - on the back side of the rig and you kneel on it to pull up the loop it might happen that the buckle of the chest strap - if it is lying directly under the rig (which might happen now and then) - that then it gets pressed against the display resulting in it cracking. A lot of if's, you see. But might give an idea? The rigger told me it has never happened with broad chest straps. The sky is not the limit. The ground is. The Society of Skydiving Ducks
