Weather Forecasts?? best info...
Tiger6513 replied to Tiger6513's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I realize spending time at the DZ is the best way to learn, and I am not trying to deny that fact. However I work full time as most all of you and I am on call every other weekend...my DZ is 2 hrs away, doesn't work with call. I have a fairly flexible co-worker but I need to let her know early in the week if I am to switch call, and or what day may be better (i.e. Sat or Sun) on any given weekend. Just looking for a better site to help gage thats all. Obviously if time wasn't a factor I would chill at the DZ every weekend to learn and fly, but to stay current with AFF it helps to have tools on my side to plan weekends around call and other obligations out of my control. Weather Forecasts?? best info...

Not sure if this should be posted here or on the Bonfire thread but it is skydive related. I am patiently working towards graduating AFF and need 5,6 and 7. Weather has been a big issue as I live 2 hrs from the DZ and have been grounded due to wind and clouds on several trips out there. Question is what website in your opinion has proven to be more consistant with wind and cloud predictions (I know they are all predictions so I hold no site accountable). Just trying to get a better idea of how to plan my weekends and save on gas. btw I have tried Intellicast, WeatherUnderground, and Weather Channel -
The first release dive is sweet! I am heading for level 5,6 and 7 to finish up AFF at DelMarva in a few weeks. I just can't wait to self teach, I feel pretty comfortable in the air and with altitude awareness, but these expensive AFF jumps make me feel more pressured to pass and not to have to repeat a level(it's pricey at first). Now don't get me wrong I understand safety is absolutely #1 and training is essential but I'll have sooo much more fun when the pressure (to pass a $170) jump is off my shoulders, and I look foward to many coached. Does/did anybody else get that feeling at first? Travis Roy Foundation. At very least its a tax write off

Quick (novice) question... do free-flyers have a generally faster fall rate (especially head down or sit-fly) than belly flyers? If so should free-flyers jump first?? or has it more to do with pull altitude. Just trying to get a feel for whats eventually coming... thanks Travis Roy Foundation. At very least its a tax write off

How to deal with a spouse starting AFF?

How to deal with a spouse starting AFF?
Tiger6513 replied to cderham's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
My girlfriend and I are going through AFF jump for jump, we have level 5,6 & 7 left. I will say that it is really sweet to be breaking into the sport with someone you know closely. Skydiving is an amazing sport!. but waiting around a DZ all damn day because the weather is a touch off... and then not jumping ... sucks! I personally enjoy being on the DZ with at least 1 person I can relate to and chill with. I am sure many of you remember trying to break into this sport... not easy when you have less than 10,20,50.. 100 jumps. Sitting around gazing at the sky and wind socks surrounded by people who don't know you yet and can be a bit reluctant to randomly strike up a conversation, it's nice to start with someone you know. ... besides most games require 2 or more people, we bring a football, frisbee, softball, cornhole, and DelMarva has horseshoes lol Travis Roy Foundation. I will say there is way more info than I will ever need but great photos and suprisingly well written and organized! I have only overviewed the material and already feel more comfortable for this weekend when I watch them pack chutes at my DZ. Travis Roy Foundation. At very least its a tax write off

I am a visual learner and new to the sport trying to soak up as much information as possible. I would love to have the time to read through every thread (of the 518 pages) but that unfortunately isn't an option. Can someone direct me to a website, image bank, diagram, or video describing how a quality current day parachute is made. I would really like to have more intelligent conversations with people once I am ready to purchase my own gear ( a bit down the road I'm afraid). Having knowledge of the basic components and how they have progressed and become more safety and performance oriented would be incredibly valuable. Thanks ahead of time, Tony Travis Roy Foundation. 2-point 107-way at Skydive Chicago during Summerfest 2009
Tiger6513 replied to jcunniff's topic in Relative Work
Does anybody have a good video of this 107-way formation? I bet it was amazing looking... I'll need many more years and jumps before I am able to join you guys, but someday I look foward to having that pleasure. Travis Roy Foundation. At very least its a tax write off -
Thanks for the input guys ... looks like NC might be the closest, but as long as the weather holds its 14k freefall practice!!! :-) Travis Roy Foundation. At very least its a tax write off

I have looked through several websites and tried to find a vertical wind tunnel near where I live in Baltimore Maryland. I would really like to practice my body mechanics on the "ground" as well as in the air... my closest DZ is 2 hrs. away and winter is coming. Anybody happen to know of a wind tunnel in the DC Metro area or in NJ or MD? Travis Roy Foundation. At very least its a tax write off

Skymama... I am going to finish AFF at Delmarva because it is closer and I want to be consistant from level 2-7. Then it will just depend on the weekend. Once I get all 24 jumps in and my A I'll use both DZ's. The people at both are very friendly Travis Roy Foundation. At very least its a tax write off

I like Delmarva, the day we had gone there was nice cross section of people, most of the younger jumpers were in NY for an event but its seems to be a pretty chill place. I like West Point in VA also. Travis Roy Foundation. At very least its a tax write off

I just finished up level 2 this weekend after starting level 1 last. I have made 3 jumps total and I am totally hooked! (no I haven't failed a level, my first jump was in Vermont 4 yrs ago ...AFF 1). My current DZ's are West Point in VA and Delmarva in DE. Looking foward to many many more... Travis Roy Foundation. At very least its a tax write off
