I'll give it a try: ChopChop, ya gotta love him. When he was starting out he thought everything was a malfunction. He'd cut away from line twists, slider up, closed end cells, everything! How do you think he got his name? From slicing Sushi? He was so cutaway happy we thought he was cutting away because he liked the way his reserve flew better than his main.

Yeah, after I finished my FJC my ground shcool instructor took me outside for a walk and asked me if I had any reservations about making the jump. My answer was "You mean except for the whole jumping from an airplane thing?"

Agreed 50M is way too much. The one case I know of however was due to a "premature cutaway". the reserve was within placarded weight. the main complaint that the uh, "interested" party had was the lack of accountability that the mfg showed after the fact. -

While teching the FJC for AFF I _can_ recommend that the student does a tendem instead. I have never exercised this, although on a couple of occassions I probably should have. They both had good CC and Landings but one was a "deer in the headlights" in freefall and the other was so terrified and stiff that this obviously wasn't his sport. BTW: the stiff one was a pilot.
