  1. never sell gear... you will always regret it.. particularly after she's gone anyway... ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.
  2. i was kind of wondering something along those lines as well... do carrier landings 'not count' because of the tail hook? ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.
  3. what other reason could they possibly have other than "i want my child to grow up like me" (even if they dont have to)? fear. fear that their child will not be able to relate to them because they have a chance to experience the full spectrum of life enjoyed by the majority of humanity... it is ignorant and selfish... and yes they have the right, however misguided their application of that right is... in some ways it is like a parent that refuses to help their child pay for college simply because they never had the opportunity to go.. the difference is, by making that decision at an early age they deprive their child of the only opportunity currently available ot have a 'normal' life...normal as in experienced by the majority of humanity I have an aunt who has been deaf since she had an accident as a small child. She would do anything to be able to hear... when she lived with my parents while i was in college she would often come to our band rehearsals and sit in with me in the rhythm section to be able to feel the bass and drums... it is the only experience of music she 'gets'... i cant imagine how selfish and afraid of rejection a parent would have to be to intentionally deprive their child of the chance to enjoy music or even the sound of the ocean.... (my aunt can 'hear' that too when underwater) but she has told me often she wishes she could hear the waves... ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.
  4. at which point the current implants will have about the same result that it would for the mother who did a 180... sorry they may have the 'right' but this is simply asshat behavior... why deprive your child of an opportunity to be 'normal' just because you yourself cannot take advatage of it? ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.
  5. hey ive got some of those! got them out of a T72 near Sammara ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.
  6. 20.7 but i agree with Dave.. I've lost a good bit of muscle since my accident and gained some fat... that simple math test says nothing about your actual fitness level... ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.
  7. yup, it was complete crap.. it totally interfered with getting any real work or testing accomplished while we jumped through their stupid hoops.. fortunately Moto sold us off to make some quick cash. and there was much rejoicing We are FAR better off and have landed several major contracts based on actual performance values vs their made up standards since we left that particular useless corp bullshit behind... still wondering why this is in general skydiving..?? ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.

  9. all of them dave, all of them... good idea though.. it could even be a positive for the manufacturers (a bit of extra advertising by noting the number of people using their gear professionaly) and a point of clarity as to 'where' the advice/recommendations come from by identifying obviously sponsored jumpers to everyone else... of course the question becomes what 'level' of sponsorship?? if i were forming a team i would go to the manufacturers of the gear i use already and ask for sponsorship..why? because i know, use and trusted it BEFORE they 'paid' me to do so... why should my recommendation be classified in the same manner as someone who has gotten all their gear for free for years and who 'jumps' from one sponsor to the next based on who has the deepest pocket to support their activity? ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.
  10. yup... huge pepper fan... of course i think that is from losing some of my taste sensation eating really really spicy foods in asia.... but still i pepper everything... particularly french fries... I had an ex-girlfriend who used to just pepper her ketchup "its quicker" but i barely touch the ketchup even when it comes on the side... and of course there is always the Morphine reference....i think of Mark everytime i have fries... Mark died on stage in Greece on July 03, 1999 during the second song of Morphine's set. He never made it to 09/09/99 but many of his fans gathered on porches all over the world that day and raised our glasses to him... and of course ate French Fries with Pepper...... ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.
  11. see that was before this site REALLY took off... now i think that would introduce far to many ringers.. imho i dont think they should be required to have a post (forum lurkers welcome) but they should have been registered BEFORE the jump discussion starts to keep from 'diluting' the record... so if you want your 'ringers' they can play next year... just my .02 ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.
  12. What I'm starting to think is that there's going to be some "trick" involved that isn't in the spirit of the original question -- like trying to land on a fresh powder slope covered with airbags. I still think there is a very good chance there will be a serious injury or death involved but somebody is going to eventually do it and somebody else is going to claim this is "landing" a wingsuit. In my mind that isn't landing -- it's simply surviving a crash. It has no practical application. i'm thinking a foamed runway.. ala the military towed jumper worst case scenerio... i'm not sure that counts as 'landing' either... but i'm impressed with the ballsack of anyone willing to try.. but i think that heavy clanking wieght has got to complicate matters... ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.
  13. anything made with Capilene.. beats silk, old school thermals, military polypro etc hands down... REI has a few different brands as do other outlets.. so find the sytle you like best, but Capilene (its a brand name material like Gortex used to be) is they way... i prefer Patagonia but thats just me.. there are several maufacturers that use it... ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.
  14. i'm not terribly worried about offending anyone..honestly if your emotionally involved in an internet discussion about a subject there is very little that qualifies as 'proof' well.... however if we are able to have an open discussion about any subject and are willing to attempt to examine the elements under discussion in an objective manner i'll gladly have a drink, meal etc and continue such discussions in person with anyone.. examination is the only real method to progress, to attempt to find the 'Truth' as it were... but the dust comment isnt intended to offend, it is a metaphor, one often used in eastern philosophy. Just as you cannot see clearly if you have something in your eyes... you cannot think objectively if you always return to a preconceived idea of 'how things really are'... and wind is a good example for these sorts of discussions.. Primitive man created all sorts of tales and myths that 'explained' why it exists and what its purpose was... we can now demonstrate exactly what creates wind, and recreate it ourselves in a controlled environment.. Granted 'real world weather' has a great many factors that make its behavior at any specific instance more complex and difficult to predict. However there is no 'mystery' to it any longer, and we no longer have to resort to fireside tales and flights of fancy to answer the questions of our children ask about it for anything more than amusement.. ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.
  15. right its boogie residency not actual residency that matters of course some of will be 'home' anyway ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.
  16. and that was my point.. We are educating our future surgeons, scientists and engineers. Why would we NOT teach them everything we currently understand about how life began in place of bronze age cultural myths?? Why would we possibly want to begin that education by equating one primitive culture's beliefs about the origins of life with the modern theories supported by all available scientific evidence? one of the things that the fundamentalists fail to understand (probably because they skipped science and went to prayer group instead ) is that the definition of 'theory' and how they are created and developed, is taught as part of the scientific method. Teaching them about the current ‘theory’ is an important part of their preparation for actual practice… there is no reason to include such a stupid disclaimer except that the fundamentalists are terribly afraid of the continuing decline of their influence over the progress and development of society. The more children who are learn critical thinking skills (created and developed by science and scientists) the more the church is sidelined as a means of social control, eventually becoming largely irrelevant to everyone except the fool and the fanatic ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.
  17. oh really shall we? would you like a surgeon who refused accept science and anatomy and instead cut out what his 'gut' told him too?? how about an 'engineer' with no understanding of aerodynamics building and designing plane for you to jump out of based on what he felt 'looked right' ? belief, and gut feelings have their place, but your simply gambling if you trust your life to those who rely on them more than on proven, definable facts and the conclusions based on them... evolution is backed by all currently available evidence... creationism might make you feel better about your place in the universe, but it is a poor foundation to base anyone's education on... ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.
  18. good thing we dont let your 'gut' design aircraft or attempt open heart surgery... we'd be in alot of trouble... which is exactly why we should only teach real science in science class... the religion, philosophy and 'gut' feelings can be taught in social studies.... ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.
  19. your first quote (from the Washington Post, reprinted in the ST) is an editorial, the conclusions it presents are NOT made by the scholars and scientists actually doing the work, but are instead being made by the writer…http://seattletimes.nwsource.com/html/nationworld/2001824216_jesus27.html and are obviously flawed when compared to the statements the archeologists ACTUALLY made even inside the article… editorials are not evidence.. if you can find the actual study by the scientists you’ll be much better off, but I don’t believe they have published their findings yet… the evidence revealed thus far doesn’t support the existence of Jesus himself so much as it verifies elements of the culture referred to in the NT and states that they may have discovered linguistic links between the NT writers and the Roman culture they were a part of….it says nothing about who those writers were or the validity of the events as written.....also note the liberal use of the word 'might' particularly from the archeologists themselves who are not trying to appease an audience but instead are looking for facts to base conclusions on, vs the writer (obviously a believer) seeking any crumb to claim “see we are RIGHT!” read all sources critically, and not for what you WANT them to say, something that writer obviously failed to do... your second quote also appears in an editorial article that directly cites religious sources, check the bibliography section from the research it qoutes and get back to me when you find a secular source.. of those I have the Mackey and the Dunn books.. neither are secular writers… again read critically, and not for what you wish to believe is being said.. have you read Pliny's reference? perhaps you should...then see if you still think it counts as 'evidence' and btw the non christian references cited in the original paper as referring to Jesus are inferences, not definitive. Several of the 'sources' it cites as mentioning Jesus are scholars documenting the rumors and stories that relate to him as the early church spread... this documents the belief of the early church, NOT the existence or activities of Jesus himself.. since your searching the internet perhaps you found this? its from one of the longer papers that many internet sites (several that repeat your passage) quotes directly from... when you find a DIRECT source that refers to Jesus, and not one that was documenting the rumors and activities surrounding early church and his disciples, you will have made a real discovery... outside of the Gospels there are NO direct sources that document the existence of Jesus at all... the closest is the jewish sources that refer to him, but again they are documenting the beliefs and teachings of the developing Christian church that opposed them, not citing an actual encounter or verifying the existence of Jesus or his teachings beyond the reference to him as the central figure of the early church that opposed them… obviously the early church believed in him… documenting that belief does not document the man…. just so you understand what i'm saying here... someone that has met me is a direct source... someone that repeats a story they were told, from someone who never actually met me is a secondary, tertiary etc...source... ie "a friend of my brothers girlfriend told her.." isnt evidence of much except the tendency of humanity to spread rumors... I’ve got a great bigfoot story my uncle told me happened to one of his hunting buddies… are you going to believe in bigfoot based on that tale?? keep looking, but try to set aside your belief when you weighing the value of the source... it is very difficult to see the world clearly with the dust of belief in your eyes… ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.

  21. Zen, gotta call B.S. Roman history even coincides with christian history, in the roman records, that have been recovered, from jerusalem, it is written, "Jesus of nazareth, risen from the dead" really? find me a source.. a non religious source that confirms this... christians like to continually claim such.. but the sources they use are suspect.. ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.

  24. dont buy anything then... write a card, poem a framed picture etc... if they like music/books give them something they might not listen to/read on their own,... honestly i'm one of those people....and i know several as well.. of course i'm terrible about 'gifts on gift days' i tend to buy my friends presents when i wander across something that reminds me of them, or that i know they would love... imo there is nothing worse than getting a present that was obviously bought 'because its that time of year/birthday' instead of something (even something simple) that obvious thought and attention went into, that has meaning to the person who gave it as well… to me there isn’t anything special about getting a gift because its ‘expected’ many of the things i cherish most were given to me not for xmas/birthday etc, but because the person who gave it to me knew i would appreciate it... even when it cost absolutely nothing, and there was no occasion for it….. ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.
  25. one of my very best friends (should have married her actually.. but ah well) weighs maybe 125 lbs... she also has three kidneys (i dont know why that would make a difference but she attributes her ability to it) she can drink nearly anyone ive ever met under the table...ive seen her demonstrate it multiple times...and she's not otherwise a regular drinker... at some point she blacks out and can no longer remember anything (which is rather dangerous, and one of the reasons she doesnt drink regularly) but will still be capable of wandering around acting perfectly normal and serving drinks and shots...to the 200lb drunks who can no longer stand to get their own chasers... she is one of the most amazing women i know, for more reasons than that.. but i will never again bet i can outdrink her with any form of alcohol...it is far to painful the day after..... and she never seems to have quite the level of hang over as the rest of us either..... ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.
