DZ competition getting nasty/inaccurate web sites
WFFC replied to peek's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
You may want to visit the skyride thread. You'll find all your answers in there. If you don't call me and I'll 'splain offline. P.S. A dropzone will soon be rising from the ashes...stay tuned. -
Last time I filled up my truck was Jan 21st. Granted, I haven't driven it much since then, nor have I seen it much either. But it did still have a full tank last time I saw it... ----- ~~~Michael

1. drive east to the great smokey mountains 2. locate long lost cousin Earl 3. take Earl to the 'big city' and tell him you're taking him to hunt some ugly 'possum 4. allow Earl to bring his still 5. buy Earl a new tent and set up in your back yard 6. have Earl bring his huntin' gun 7. buy Earl ammunition 8. allow Earl to do his dirty work 9. take Earl home when complete. allow him to take the tent. ----- ~~~Michael

Bill- You forgot one technical aspect. You had many doors to go out of of many planes, not everyone going out of the skinny door on the ass end. ~Michael

Alabama Skydiving Center (I believe) in Pell City. City is right, name could be wrong. -

Derek- Is the TO flying? No. Is/will a TO fly this season? Yes. While I agree with your passion on somethings, I don't agree with your passion of hassling people. -

Seems to me Mile Hi's website is right up there in the "inaccurate web site" catagory with everyone else. Derek The TO was in the put back together phase when I was there two weeks ago. A TO from SDA will be there in the event the MH TO runs into any issues. You might be interested to see how much work has gone into getting the TO online and ready. Will be calling Ralph later today to get a status on DS. As for the 100 mile circle, to be technical, it was either 92 or 95 miles from downtown Denver so it's partially semantics. Is it $9.99 or $10.00? -

ATTENTION Just a personal 'anger' check to make sure that we all keep in line with the discussion and don't resort to name calling, etc. Thanks for keeping this inline. -

Big picture...one's view on an experience can be vastly different than another. I'm up for that - been there, done that. When you 'grow' in the sport, don't forget to visit other DZs as there are so many other flavors out there. There will always be your home DZ but there are so many other places to visit out there don't limit your experience. The best DZs I've ever been to had some flavor of a small Cessna. More comradery there than some of the larger DZs I've been to. -

I may or may not visit ASC at some point in my travels as I do also have friends that are staffers there. Please do show me where I've personally bashed ASC though. Skyride's business practices - yes. ASC directly - No. -

Only to keep this fair...One's experience with one DZ can definitely be different than another's. While visiting a large DZ for the first time, where I have a few friends that jump, I found the people very difficult to approach and their reactions were very negative when I did. The staff was unfriendly, etc. This can and will happen to each of us on occasion - not much we can do about it and express to the DZO or said DZ when it happens and move on. Go back if you feel like giving them a second chance, don't if you don't. Never been to ASC nor The Farm so I cannot make a judgement on either as a good/bad vibe for either place. -

...Crashing the plane? That was the first time Phil was in Memphis on business and he was on the next load. oops! Luckily, no one was hurt (other than maybe bruised egos). -

Yes, they bring people into skydiving. The downside, they do whatever it takes to get the almighty dollar, even if that includes not telling the truth to get the money. Yes, recall that you said stealing is wrong. So, based on the fact that we've pointed in the direction of stolen web designs, stolen photos, etc. And expressed that the owners of said items have contacted Skyride with no response from the owners? A customer (or potential customer) can judge a business in their own mind by a rating the business hold with the BBB (see: BBB) Based on the BBB comments, I would question any business I'd do with the organization. -

1. they lied to me 2. they have stolen images from vidiot friends who were never compensated for their work 3. they have stolen website designs, graphics etc from paid designers - guess what? they were never paid for their work If you'd like me to continue, you'll have to give me a few hours to complete the list. If you'd like the complete list, my billable rate per hour as a consultant is $125. Please advise where you'd like me to send that bill - prepayment is preferred. -

I agree with you on this...but...if the customer asks about XYZ business that is 2 miles away, you don't tell that XYZ business had an incident with their staplers and they got sued and they're now closed. If the customer has already spoken to them, you've just lost all credibility in my book. Wait, this is what happened to me when I called skyride. Michael The opinions expressed are mine alone and are or are not those of any organization that I am affiliated with. -
Why not? It just adds to the challenge of putting it all back together. 180 way speedstars anyone? ----- ~~~Michael

Callie- Can you please let us know what DZ you own? You're in GA according to your profile and since most GA DZs (from what I've observed) are not happy with the way Skyride does business, I'd like to know who is. The long and the short here is I don't think we're all opposed to what Skyride does as a business (clearing house for tandem certs) but we're all very concerned with the way that Skyride goes about getting the money out of the consumer (bait & switch, blatant lies, etc.). Ethics are one thing that many businesses lack thest days. I just don't want it to end up in our world too. Skyride is taking ethics to a very low level to make a buck. ~Michael The opinions express are solely my own and do not reflect those of any organization that I may be involved with. -
Tentatively here as a semi legal resident (Hey, I have a FL address). I will probably be here for a while though as the project I'm involved with is getting bigger and longer by the day. ----- ~~~Michael

I did a 950 mile round trip fast tour of South Florida. Debated on a drive out to Key West since it would add a ton of drive time, but did anyway. It was cool and had fun. Left yesterday morning, got back late this afternoon. (for reference, started in Tampa) ----- ~~~Michael
