Not true, I don't think anyone is saying that. What we ARE saying is that IF someone IS there, it's the PILOTS responsibilty to behave/fly in a safe manner that's within their skill set. Whether the obstacle in question SHOULD be that at all is an entirely different discussion. Blues, Ian Performance Designs Factory Team

Actually that happened to a NUMBER of competitors at the last PST. We had tandems flying over the swoop course. Fortunately no-one had to bail but it was certainly distracting and unnecessary. However, every single one of them was ready to bail if they needed to. I sense you're arguing for the sake of arguing at this point. If this turns into a flame fest, I'm going to have to lock the thread. Performance Designs Factory Team

No but they'll abort if they are unable to make a safe landing. Adam is actually quite a good swooper. I've had the pleasure of watching him compete. I would say he's quite knowledgable on the subject. Blues, Ian Performance Designs Factory Team

Doesn't matter who's right or wrong, you'll both be dead or seriously hurt if you collide. If the pilot doesn't have the skill to avoid obstacles then they shouldn't swoop them. Period. Even then, remember, anyone can make a mistake, it only takes one and it's happened to better pilots than most of us. Blues, Ian Performance Designs Factory Team

Folks, I think this is a little better suited for gear and rigging. Blues, Ian Performance Designs Factory Team

I disagree. Dealing with strong upper winds is part of competition and builds important skills. Of course, dealing with the same winds on the deck presents a safety issue if not handled correctly (in course setup). Personally I hate competing in anything over 10mph, but as long as it's not a safety issue (17 mph downwind) I'll do it. I agree! Turbulence scares the everloving shit out of me and my opinion is that too few jumpers take it seriously. After watching my friends canopy totally fold up in some windy conditions because of rotors made me see the light many years ago. I certainly don't want to be under a napkin that's just folded up at 800 feet. Blues, Ian Performance Designs Factory Team

I disagree. I had the pleasure of watching Pia fly at the LW CPC meet. At this time Pia needs to get used to being in competition without adding new dangers to the picture and focus on gaining confidence. The rears will come when she's ready......

In your case less is always better In Loud Dan's case - well, lets just say that spandex shouldn't be allowed Performance Designs Factory Team

Key tools yes! Just don't depend on them

Not necessarily more or less in depth - just different. Each course, and instructor, bring their own unique style to the table. None (of the respected good courses) are better, or worse, than others - just different. Take as many different ones as you can is my opinion. Ian Performance Designs Factory Team

Just drive like you swoop. 25mph should be more than fine to keep the cops at bay Oh, and next time, before you give me crap about verting a run - make sure you don't follow it with a run that would be great if the gates were 150 feet lower See you and Angela on Thurs!! True, I upgraded my Cypres 2 to a Speed Cypres 2 by simple sending it in to Airtek for a software upgrade. A quick phone call/email to the manufacturer was all that was needed. Blues, Ian Performance Designs Factory Team

Luigi Cani attepmting the World Record with a VX37

I just got word that he landed it successfully. Ian Performance Designs Factory Team -
It annoys me to no end to hear this. Seriously folks, doesn't anyone read the incident reports???? Not to mention the bunch of independant tests that have fired them under the conditions that Airtek have made public. Airtek have addressed this where they can (Cypres 2 to Speed Cypres) and issued operational parameters to those who don't have that option. DON'T DO MULTIPLE ROTATIONS FOR LANDING IF YOU HAVE A CYPRES 1 - EVEN IF YOU HAVE SAFELY IN THE PAST! Operating outside of those recommendations is totally negligent. When Adrian died, I immediately stopped doing more than 270's until I had the unit removed (and later upgraded to Speed Cypres). Sheesh..... Performance Designs Factory Team

South Africa to host 2008 CP Championships!
ianmdrennan replied to goneswoopen's topic in Swooping and Canopy Control
Yep - which is exactly why I didn't go to Nats in 2007. Even if I'd qualified I wouldn't have been able to afford such a short notice ticket to Austrialia - or organize the time off. I hope it changes...just not this year -
Yes and no. The 'old days' the biggest problem was lack of knowledge. These days the biggest problem is 'over inflated egos' by those thinking that times have changed so much that basic progression steps no longer apply to them. Ian Performance Designs Factory Team

It deals a lot of with the latter. How the church moves the abusers around, well aware of their behavior. The dispositions (spelling?) of the Diocese members are shocking to say the least. It's quite something to watch the recounting of the events, by Father O'Grady, and the casualness with which he speaks of them. It's a scary peek into a fractured psyche. I think, by far, the most shocking thing to me was the cover up by the church. Oddly enough not because of protecting the church, but rather by those in the church protecting their careers and promotions. Blues, Ian Performance Designs Factory Team

South Africa to host 2008 CP Championships!

Absolutely - but to me, it's the difference between a chance, and no chance -

ianmdrennan replied to goneswoopen's topic in Swooping and Canopy Control
Yeah that's what I had heard too Jay. I can't lie and say that, selfishly, I hope it doesn't change this year. At least then there's a chance I can go and compete on my home soil -

ianmdrennan replied to goneswoopen's topic in Swooping and Canopy Control
Not sure how the selection process will go with this years Nationals (USA) being at the end of August. I was actually going to be in SA in December, but if this is going on, and a I qualify, then I'll bump the trip up a few weeks to make this. Blues, Ian Performance Designs Factory Team -
