@vortexring: Sure, I think the quote may be over the 200 character limit. But seriously, @rushmc, I have a geniune, and non sarcastic question for you. Why do you appear to be so very angry over this topic? Ian Performance Designs Factory Team

OK, what, in your opinion, is that? (world unity) I am not trying to be a smart ass but you know he is one in the Senate who co-autored a bill that would take .9% of the US GNP and give it to the UN to fight world proverty. I don’t get it I really don’t anymore. Outrage for spending our money to help world poverty pisses you off more then spending a lot more on a false war, destroying are economy, killing brown people, and killing our troops. Why? You lay out false fucking pemises here to try and make a point. You failed, try answering the question If I were him I wouldn't either. It appears to be a fruitless discussion. Sitting here reading your posts it's pretty clear it doesn't matter what anyone says, you'll find a way to dismiss it or ask another set of questions until you get the response you want. The problem seems to be that instead of taking the opportunity to understand why someone believes something, even if you don't agree with their motives yourself, you'd rather take it as an opportunity to tell them why they shouldn't believe it. Personally, I don't have any issue with you doing that, but I wouldn't expect the conversation to really go anywhere. Anyway, back to the regular speakers corner programming..... When do/will you change your 350/300lb HMA lineset?
ianmdrennan replied to rhys's topic in Swooping and Canopy Control
For those who vote, if Rhys doesn't mind the extra input, please post how long you've been jumping 300 HMA. No need to indicate how you voted. As for me: I jumped Mel's HMA from around mid 2005 until late 2006. Soon as PD made their line available, I switched to the manufacturer line and have jumped that since. I don't recall saying otherwise. I do recall saying that I chose differently. We all have different risk thresholds. Blues, Ian Performance Designs Factory Team -

ianmdrennan replied to Rdutch's topic in Swooping and Canopy Control
It doesn't, but the simplist answer is: If you can't afford to do 'safe' maintenence then get a higher rated line type. It goes back to your own risk analysis. If you're willing to take the risks, then jump them as much, or as little, as you'd like. No-one is saying you HAVE to change them at x jumps - they are saying that extensive testing shows the lines most likely to break after x number of jumps. I could see you pushing 200 jumps out of a set. To me, 300 is really far far too much and really into a danger zone for breakage. I believe it's around 2.7 Blues, Ian Performance Designs Factory Team -

ianmdrennan replied to Rdutch's topic in Swooping and Canopy Control
My life, to me, is worth more than a little caution. YMMV. PD has done tens of thousands of test jumps (amongst different test jumpers over MANY years) - I put a lot of stock in that. Personally, I replace my lines (300hma) every 100-120 jumps. When I had a vectran set, I'd replace my lower control lines every 200 jumps, no matter what. If you want the nice toys, you have to pay the maintenance price. That said, if you're not competing, I don't understand why some people bother with getting the ultra thin line. When I stop competing, I'm going back to 500 HMA. Oh, and btw, I've seen Mels lines break with less than 100 jumps on them too, more than once. Thin line = high maintenance, no matter who you get it from. Blues, Ian Performance Designs Factory Team -

As promised the thread has been re-opened since we have an official statement from the parties involved. I had been in contact with the company and knew we were going to be getting an official response. I wanted to ensure the thread didn't become derailed with additional misinformation and speculation while the response was being compiled. Now that the facts are out the discussion can continue. LOL, not likely. Piercings aren't my thing (just my eyebrow that I'm considering getting a 2nd one next to). Tattoo's on the otherhand....those are definitely my thing. BTW, I met, and got to chat with, Allen Falkner in 06 at an event in Miami area after his suspension show - really nice guy, and a really good show. Blues, Ian Performance Designs Factory Team

Your brake lines are too short then (most likely) or the canopy is out of trim. It doesn't matter if it feels unsafe the point others are trying to make is that it IS unsafe. That method of inducing speed for landing is frowned upon, and rightly so. Once again, I recommend you get coaching. A good canopy coach will help you learn more about your gear, why it responds certain ways, how to best set it up for high performance landings, and how to approach high performance landings with as little risk as possible. I had to check the dates when it was made. There was a party on there that I was sure I was at! I think it was the previous year, same event though. Still, some interesting historical stuff there. Lots of interviews with various people in various forms of body modification (including body building). Not for the squeamish though
