  1. Did any of you actually watch the video? Unless the brake fire was spotted immediately (which it wasn't) do you really think that was a salvagable situation? Easy to be armchair critics when you weren't there.....unfortunately I notice this trend way too often when it comes to reserve rides. They're there for a reason, why it's always such an ordeal when somebody uses them is beyond me. Either way it was posted for your visual enjoyment...take it as that. 2. He was steering the opening and an 84 will wind up on you faster than you can imagine with a brake out. Problem is that he didn't notice that the brake had fired until it spun up on him, by that time (Kelly
  3. Buddy of mine (GaryHarbird) had to chop his velo 84 after a break fire. Those who're interested in seeing him getting thrown around like a rag doll - check out ftp.skydivingmovies.com and look under cutaways for Gary_cutaway_84_velocity. Enjoy. Blue skies Ian Performance Designs Factory Team
  4. It's not that S-turns are directly bad juju - so use them if you absolutely need to. But once the landing is done re-evaluate why you needed to use them (normally turning in too early) and try not to make the same mistakes on the next jump. Blue skies Ian Performance Designs Factory Team
  5. Exactly why it was posted. Maybe we could all learn from that experience. It'd be a shame to let that go to waste. Blue skies Ian Performance Designs Factory Team
  6. You should read Missy Nelsons safety tip on the chicago site. S turns while valid are inconsiderate to those behind you. While I have no problem with those that make them occasionally to fix altitude problems, I have a HUGE issue with those that use them all the time without re-evaluating their flight pattern for the conditions (and yes we have a small landing area so s turns can effectively cut off almost all jumpers coming in behind them). 7. Thanks. Nice and smooth. Nice flying. Be safe. Blue skies Ian Performance Designs Factory Team
  8. got them anywhere else? I can't get onto ftp.skydivingmovies.com' blue skies Ian Performance Designs Factory Team
  9. Any news on this one yet? Just curious. blue skies Ian Performance Designs Factory Team
  10. on your birthday??? Damn Tim you should have told us....... Sorry I didn't say happy birthday then but HAPPY BIRTHDAY and congrats. I'll see you around the DZ. Blue skies Ian Performance Designs Factory Team
  11. Yeah I loved the footage and some parts of the soundtrack but everyone at the DZ so far has commented on the MTV editing style. Oddly enough the word epilepsy was brought up too
  12. Cool...have fun and let us know how it goes Blue skies Ian Performance Designs Factory Team
  13. I start my turn on my velocity (180 riser) @ 650-700 ft. That been said my first jump on it I landed straight in, then started working up the turns until I got back to my 180. I personally feel it's always a good thing when stepping down to a new canopy size and type to start at the very beginning and work up over a few jumps - not only is it safer, but I find it helps me get dialed in quicker, but thats just my opinion. Either way be safe and have fun. I'm sure you'll like your new "toy"
  14. Yeah, Bucky (guy who runs the website) was pretty stoked about that one. He said the whole event was an absolute blast. Wish I could have been there too. Blue skies Ian Performance Designs Factory Team
  15. Johnny, Yep thats exactly it - as always we're assuming no turbulance. There are a lot of old myths out there that were put to rest on this course...this being one of them. Glad you took it, hope you got as much out of it as I did. Blue skies Ian Performance Designs Factory Team
  16. Grega, Just something to think about...My buddies and I were recently measuring the distance we were covering and speed we were doing it at (one on a velocity 84 loaded @ 2.2, another on a xaos 120 @ 2.0 and myself under a velocity 96 @ 2.1). One thing we noticed that while our distances were very similar, the 84 covered it a lot quicker than I, while the 120 took significantly longer than both of us. Just something to think about when comparing "flare times" in seconds. Things are not always as they appear. Blue skies Ian Performance Designs Factory Team
  17. Scott Miller discussed this very thing in his canopy course. It's an illusion, just think about relative wind, the ground you cover and the speed you cover it at. If you doubt it feel free to attend his class and ask him to explain why. Blue skies Ian Performance Designs Factory Team
  18. Enjoy folks. Freekfly Blue skies Ian Performance Designs Factory Team
  19. I'll be buying a neptune for visual use (I have a pro-dytter as my aud), but it's hard to beat L&B (Pro-tracks) service. Blue skies Ian Performance Designs Factory Team
  20. you need to install quicktime to view the video. Blue skies Ian Performance Designs Factory Team
  21. Thanks for clearing that up. Blue skies Ian Performance Designs Factory Team
  22. I believe he is talking about Vectran lines (kinda yellow lines instead of white) which have a significantly shorter lifespan than microline. Blue skies Ian Performance Designs Factory Team
  23. I think you mean tail? Performance Designs Factory Team
  24. Originally yeah, I thought you were responding to his question on the Sabre2
