  1. Odd that's been my point all along. Strange that you suddenly see the benefit in that. Don't ever remember saying that - but you never were too interested in hearing opinions other than your own so I'm not surprised you interpreted my posts any other way. You're even more stupid than you sound if you truely think that's the way I skydive. Of course you can continue to make those judgements, because in light of this debate and your inability to present a rational point (other than device dependance which I agreed was a bad thing), your opinion on issues has certainly lost validity in my eyes. But of course as you've stated before, you don't care - and quite honestly that's fine by me. I know enough skydivers more knowledgable than you to fill the void. Ian Performance Designs Factory Team
  2. You don't get the fact that not ALL are avoidable, of course you conveniently forget that. If you are SO capable of avoiding all these things AND always are going to pull your handles, then I think you wasted $1200 - take it out and give it to someone who wants it. 3. have you made sure your slider grommets are all the way up to the chips on the canopy? Also quarter it nicely and make sure it's open to catch air. May help a bit. Blue skies Ian Performance Designs Factory Team
  4. mine beat the crap outta me. Still it was a lot softer than the ground would have been
  5. Does anyone have any data showing the total number # of cypress saves for each year along with the total number of skydives done throughout the world for that year for the last 10 years? I don't know, but I expect more people are skydiving than ever before. I'd be interested in seeing if the percentage of cypress fires is going up, down or staying the same. 10 people skydive, 1 has a fire then 10% had saves...100 people skydive , 1 fire then 1% had saves, etc..... 6. I was talking about learning HD, I didn't say never look down, in fact I provided examples on BETTER ways to be able to look down (upright) while getting enough skill to be able to do it in a HD(look down without tracking all over the place). I also never said anything about buying a cypress for saving your ass cause of not looking down. If you actually READ my post I wasn't talking about cypresses at all. 7. Looking at the ground while learning hd is most definately not recommended (in the HD position) = massive drive. People that look down tend to arch, and that in turn tends to drive them forward as ridiculous speeds. Instead they should rotate to a sit if that what they're worried about. It's also the reason at least 1 audible (pref 2) should be worn. Finally it makes for another strong case on learning sit/stand first as it allows you to get your "clock" in while being able to reference the ground. I know that's off topic, but....my 2 cents. 8. My wifes openings were drastically improved when she stopped pushing the nose into the middle of the packjob and made sure the slider was nicely opened for the airflow. Blue skies Ian Performance Designs Factory Team
  9. Just remember if you use vectran, while it won't shrink, you will have to pay closer attention to your lineset and learn what to look for with vectran wear as they will simply snap when too worn. Recommendation is replace vectran linesets every 400 jumps and brake lines every 200. Have fun. Blue skies Ian Performance Designs Factory Team
  10. You'd be surprised how making the risers uneven (harness shift) can effect opening. Another factor can be if the slider stays up too long, eventually you'll more than likely get uneven inflation which causes the canopy to dive one way or the other. 11. The fact that she has less jumps than you does not mean her statement is not valid. Don't belittle those around you based on jump numbers, I'd like to think you're a better skydiver than that. Ian Performance Designs Factory Team
  12. Of SNE? check out www.ugojump.com and ask one of the operators. Blue skies Ian Performance Designs Factory Team
  13. Very, very true BUT you cannot ELIMINATE them and that is my point. I don't doubt that - in fact it unfortunately seems the norm. Just don't insult me by lumping me in that group. If my cypress fires, it better be because I was incapacitated. Very true, but the point I'm trying to make is that they STILL happen. Unless you are perfect? Not arguing with that at all. 14. Hey Chris, Well I spent a few weekends under an 84 and had a great time with it. Then Dave Brown came up and I did a few jumps on his 90. I think the 90 is going to be a good bet for the speed of an 84 but the distance of a bigger wing like my 96 so I decided to demo one for a while longer to get the hang of it
  15. My new demo toy arrives thursday, and yes Kolla and PD are top notch. I wish I'd started using PD products earlier. Blue skies ian Performance Designs Factory Team
  16. Ron, You and I don't normally differ too much on opinions but you really sound like a certain someone you really disagree with on canopies right now. You've made your point on device reliance, but you continue to try and make it like no-one should have a cypress. I also know you've posted on at least one occasion that you almost bounced (here ) and I didn't see you say anything about YOU reconsidering your involvement in the sport. No-one is perfect and THAT is why these devices are helpful. My point is that we all do stupid things, normally unintentionally - it's no reason to die and if learnt from is certainly no reason to quit. Ian Performance Designs Factory Team
  17. Pardon me but what a load of BS. I've seen experienced rw folk hit on building big ways, just like I've seen, and been hit by, experienced vrw folk. I avoid those situations as best I can, but we are jumping with PEOPLE and they make MISTAKES. It happens, that's why I have a cypress. I don't have a cypress for ME - I have it because of YOU. I cannot believe that you truely think you have the control of your surroundings that you think you do (unless all you do is solo's). Ian Performance Designs Factory Team
  18. Ron, Don't get me wrong, we're kinda on the same page but I think you're taking it a bit of an extreme here. I mean saying something like: Is like saying if an airbag/seatbelt saves your life you should give up driving. I know there can be factors in either example that lead to a "yes" answer but just because someone makes a mistake doesn't mean they shouldn't skydive (I'm not talking extreme cases here). Yes, the complacency that a cypress can bring bothers me, HOWEVER, that is not the fault of the device and certainly isn't an adequate reason not use one. I think there is a middle ground here. 19. Does anyone know where I can get a Hurricane 120 lineset from? I'd prefer not to have to deal with Chute Shop directly as my customer service experience with them has been less than desirable. Any dealers out there? Blue skies Ian Performance Designs Factory Team
  20. I think you misread my post. All I'm saying is that to assume your cypress will work (save your butt) is a potentially fatal assumption(i.e. burning in to 750 confident that my cypress will fire is not on my TODO list). My statement to Ron was, while I believe the above, I'd rather have one than not. By the way, every time I pitch I expect my main to fail. I am pleasantly surprised when it doesn't (i.e I am ready for my reserve procedures at any time), both times I had my reserve rides, I expected them to fail to and tried to be ready for whatever could happen next (line over, etc). Complacency in your gear can get you killed, don't assume that anything will work - any or all of it can fail - as unlikely as it may be. Blue skies Ian Performance Designs Factory Team
  21. I don't see one post here where anyone says they won't jump without one. I do see numerous posts saying they'd prefer to have one. I can only assume that you read the poll incorrectly? I 100% agree. No-one should rely on any device working. I still don't think that makes a good argument not to get one though. Blue skies Ian Performance Designs Factory Team
  22. Oh I wouldn't go that far . Don't get me wrong - I believe most are preventable. I also know that I'm going to screw up sometime (call it human nature) - I'd rather protect myself as much as I can against my own stupidity
  23. Ask them what they think about a cypress That unlikely scenario style is why I have one. I really hope that I'll never need it, but I figure I'm worth more than $1200 (call me egotistic
  24. umm...no. Spectres are 7 cells - no single stage flare, so are velocities and I definately don't single stage flare mine. Accuracy depends on the pilot, not the number of cells. Blue skies Ian Performance Designs Factory Team
