  1. Yeah and if that does work, you can always take "ol yeller" out back and shoot him
  2. Very true, but so has doing something "the way I've always done it". There's nothing wrong with you choosing not to be the first on the block, but someone has to do it. Like Bill Booth said, if no-one bought anything new, we'd have no innovations. There's always room for improvement. Blue skies, Ian Performance Designs Factory Team
  3. Fair enough. It should be noted in their defense that there was an update for the reset issue, I just hadn't applied it yet. I guess I don't rely on the device so I didn't consider it as much of a safety issue as some would have. Blue skies, Ian Performance Designs Factory Team
  4. Not one that I'm aware of impaired safety in any way. All the "issues" were freefall times/speeds, etc. Blue skies Ian Performance Designs Factory Team
  5. No, No, No, No, No!!! It's exactly that kind of statement that breeds, in students, this overwhelming desire to land into the wind at any cost. First and foremost, wings level above all else. I know you didn't mean it the way it sounded, but while a little off topic, but it needed addressing. Blue skies Ian Performance Designs Factory Team
  6. Every time I pitch I expect it to malfunction (and hence my thoughts are geared that way). That way I'm: 1) Normally pleasantly surprised. 2) Ready for my emergency procedures. Blue skies Ian Performance Designs Factory Team
  7. No. Todays parachutes have sufficient forward speed to carry the jumper for a distance over the ground. I've landed my velo in straight a couple of times and got rather nice swoops out of it. Now, of course, if you want to extend your distance then the more speed the further you'll go . Blue skies Ian Performance Designs Factory Team
  8. My apologies Ivan.....I had a feeling it was too good not to be a repost
  9. hopefully this isn't a repost but here goes If Bush was a girl Blue ones, Ian Performance Designs Factory Team
  10. correct. If the competitor stood up they received an additional 10 points as a bonus. Blue skies Ian Performance Designs Factory Team
  11. yep - add me to the list, but we'll just be there from Sat morning until Sunday morning. Blue ones, Ian Performance Designs Factory Team
  12. Chris, Thanks again for organizing that, it was an absolute blast. I'll be keeping my eyes open for the next one! Blue skies Ian Performance Designs Factory Team
  13. Yeah, but if you're only going to get 1 word right, Kak is a damn good one
  14. My wife and I will be in Orlando for some tunnel time on Friday and were planning on stopping by a DZ on the way home on Sat. I guess we'll just have to make it Sebastian
  15. Sorry Phree, I don't want to sidetrack this post, but thats like blaming a cypress for a fire because someone set it incorrectly. I don't think analog alti's are a good idea because their range is so wide and at a glance it's easy to misread 200 feet, but I can't blame an alti either if someone didn't calibrate it correctly. Also, just like anything, it's a guide, not an absolute. You have to know the conditions for the day as well as how your canopy responds to them for an alti to be of any good anyway...same goes for the eyes though. Anywhoo for the sake of the thread, if anyone disagrees please PM me so we can keep this thread clean. Thanks, Ian Performance Designs Factory Team
  16. Eyes first here, then Neptune for quick confirmation (eyes can be deceptive when terrain and lighting changes). Remember that the alti is a guide only. Density altitude, amongst other things, changes that alt all the time. You've expressed an interest in swooping in the past so I'd highly recommend going to flight 1 (or an advanced canopy skills workshop) so that you can get the best guidence for what you are about to start learning. I wish they were around when I started, I'm sure I'd not have a lot of the bad habits I am now still trying to break. Be safe. Remember its hard to take it slow because of enthusiam. Just try and keep that enthusiam in check and try to progress at a reasonable pace and I'm sure you'll be a kick ass pilot one day. Blue skies Ian Performance Designs Factory Team
  17. I think we could debate all day whether or not "Junior Ranger" is hot
  18. Yes I've seen it done from a tailgate plane. Static line deployments (from side door aircraft - my only experiences with static line) are prone to line twists. Blue ones, Ian Performance Designs Factory Team
  19. There are already tools to assist in this (Neptune, alti's etc). Problem is that every canopy dives and responds differently. Not to mention the amount of turn we're talking about (enough for a 90 is not enough for a 270, etc). Density altitude changes those numbers on a daily basis, etc, etc, etc. I think the tools are there for us to learn safe turning altitudes for our canopies today, but they can't do everything for us. We have to use them, and know when to use them for them to be effective. Blue skies Ian Performance Designs Factory Team
  20. Enjoy! It's big, but worth the d/l (I think, but I'm biased) Thanks to Phreezone for hosting. Blue skies Ian Performance Designs Factory Team
  21. Ok, now I don't know your skills so this isn't necessarily directed at you, but rather that statement. There are PLENTY of skydivers who THINK they are capable of something. One only has to read the incident reports (including non fatals) to realize there are a number of us who aren't able to realisitcally evaluate our skills. Either because our egos won't let us, or we simply don't have the experience to do so. We need to check the ego's at the door and be honest with ourselves. I know if I had the foresite to do so a few years ago, I wouldn't be sitting with compressed vertabrae now (not tandem related). Try not to be one of them.
