Not got anything to add to Billvons post so I'll comment on this I understand your concern, but the drop doesn't happen as fast as you'd think. A WAY, WAY worse scenario is stalling out on rears when you're in the corner (I know you're not talking about HP landings here but the emphasis is on rear riser stall) and having your canopy fold up behind you. You've been practicing rear riser landings up high, so practice the transfers - even if you don't intend to use it you may need to one day. Blues, Ian Performance Designs Factory Team

That's a hard one to answer. I don't have a "set flare" height, but instead adjust my inputs to how the landing is unfolding. With rears it's always better to bail to toggles if you're not 100% sure you are going to pull the landing off. Ideally you'd need just a touch of input to level off the canopy. When you feel you can't lift yourself up using rears is the time to transfer to toggles (assuming a good approach). I grab them high (at the attachments) and NEVER, EVER let go of those toggles. Absolutely. I've got over 700 jumps on Velo's ranging from 103's to 84's. I've been spanked by a rouge opening less than 5 times total and the "spankers" have just been much quicker than expected. Rumor has it the earlier velo's opened quickly but that's definately not the case now. To be sure that it meets your requirements I'd grab a demo from PD and see what you think. I do concede though that they search, the trick is to not fight it, if you're neutral and dont fight it you'll find they open on heading 90% of the time with the odd 90 degree turn the rest of the time. It takes about 700 feet for mine to open after I've pitched and I've had as long as 1000 on some super, super soft openings. Call up PD or email them and test it our for yourself. I know I love mine Edit: I see you're in Alabama. If you make it out to Skydive Atlanta's Halloween Festival the end of this month PD will be there with a bunch of demos. Honestly, they're all good. Each dropzone brings it's own flavor to the mix, and each DZ has their pros and cons. My suggestion to you would be to visit each one for a weekend and see which one "feels right" for yourself. When you come to Thomaston (skydive atlanta) let me know and I'll show you around. Steps: 1) Ensure you have the new software 2) Replace the battery. If it still goes flat in under 300 jumps, contact Lara at Alti-2 immediately. There were some older units that had a weird memory chip issue that caused rapid draining of the battery. She'll replace the unit for free if you have no luck.
