  1. This weekend, doing a distance run at Palatka. Clean run, popped up a little higher than I'd have preferred. Normally I put my feet out in front of me to take the initial impact before sliding on my ass (like most distance runs). Right foot caught on the ground, not sure if it was bump or the shoes just caught more traction than normal, but it resulted in me rolling over my leg and breaking it in 2 places. Will post the ambulance and emergency costs when I know them. Still unknown if surgery will be required (will know this week). Also will link to the vid when I get it. 2007 is off to a stellar start Blues, Ian Performance Designs Factory Team
  2. To me, the value lies not so much in the actual speed, but whether or not a different turn yielded a higher result. If my neptune consistantly reads 55 mph for turn A and I try turn B and it reads 65 mph, then it's a fairly safe assumption that turn B yielded a better result. Least, that's what I use it for. It'd be nice if it was 100% accurate, but I don't think so. Blues, Ian Performance Designs Factory Team
  3. My neptune shows around the 70 mph mark with the highest I ever clocked in Colorado being 75mph on a 270. A friend has a visio which I plan on taking on a jump this weekend to compare results. Will post what I find on monday. Blues, Ian Performance Designs Factory Team
  4. From what I could see the entire system was under tension so there was nothing to get snagged. The only place that could happen was the metal housings (which Bill saw going away anyway) and that hadn't ever happened. My honest opinion is that Bill Booth has consistantly delivered well thought out and safe advancements in gear to the sport. Perhaps my faith in him and his gear is a little too high but so far I have no reason to doubt him, or his team. Blues, Ian Performance Designs Factory Team
  5. Bill Booth was saying that it had 25% less pull force than the standard system and up to 85% less when pulled at an angle other than straight down. I'm assuming friction is a big part of why it's less but I don't know. I'm pretty sure that RWS (or UPT [;P]) can back up their numbers, even if I can't hehehehe Ian Performance Designs Factory Team
  6. Stronger, less pull force and cheaper. Sounds like a good reason to change to me. And I really found the video on the riser covers interesting. Blues, Ian Performance Designs Factory Team

  8. Feb 24 Lake Wales, Florida Hopefully the weather will cooperate and I'll come down
  9. Hey Jeff. Just wanted to let you know that it was your perceptions that were tricking you. When done correctly either into the wind or downwind require no additional toggle input than normal to level the canopy. Often the pilots interpretation of the way the ground is moving by (or not) skews that perception. edit: Im toying with the idea of hitting up Lake Wales for the CPC event as practice so while I might be as uncurrent as all hell and flying like a floating piece of ass, I'd be happy to talk with you about this stuff Blues, Ian Performance Designs Factory Team
  10. I never said anything about any party - simply the political process in the US. Why do you insist on trying to make these kind of issues partisan - both sides? Both will eat their own at the drop of a hat. Are these really the people you want leading the country? We have ALL allowed it to get this way. Ian Performance Designs Factory Team
  11. I find this a sad, distasteful part of politics. Instead of dealing with issues it's a matter of who comes out of a mud slinging match the cleanest. It's sad that we, as voters, have allowed it to come to this Ian Performance Designs Factory Team
  12. So, I'm curious what people are thinking of him as a candidate. So far my impressions of him have been that he's intelligent, well spoken, and a good middle ground candidate (not too far of either side of the spectrum). I realize that he hasn't got as much political experience (not necessarily a bad thing) as the other candidates and that some people will vote partisan no matter what, but I'd like to know what people think of him...and why. 13. IMO I don't see this as a USPA issue. I see it as a jumper awareness issue. I believe we should be focusing our efforts on educating our upcoming, and existing jumpers, as well as DZO's on safer practices for canopy traffic. While I know it's not the intent, passing the buck to USPA take the onus off of the jumpers to implement a solution and thus, IMO, makes it 'someone elses problem' In short, I'd rather see jumpers of all disciplines doing their part to help alleviate the problem. I don't see USPA getting involved making that happen, nor do I really think they should. Just my thoughts
  14. What are your thoughts on consolidating the New England and NY regions? They're all within a few hrs of each other and *may* provide a better competitor base, albeit with a teeny bit more driving for those involved, but nothing excessive. Blues, Ian Performance Designs Factory Team
  15. Agreed. However 'conventional' pilots thinking this is a swooper only problem are horribly mistaken. I see a LOT of closer than necessary calls every weekend. What concerns me about this mindset is that be villifying a particular group we are missing the bigger picture. Collisions can happen to anyone....the best prevention is having EVERYONE pay attention to vertical and horizontal seperation under canopy, even with seperate landing areas. That means that the person on the 135 ST should exercise good judgement on when and how to spiral around the sky just as the swooper should exercise good judgement on when and how to do their HP landings. If we start thinking it's only 1 groups responsibililty we are setting ourselves up for failure. IMO anyone not thinking this is EVERYONE's responsibility is one of those people to watch out for under canopy. Blues, Ian Performance Designs Factory Team
  16. I'd say eye of the beholder. I've seen XAOS pilots kick the crap out of everyone (even JVX pilots), just like I've seen VX pilots do the same, as well as Velo pilots. I expect we'll see a few JVX's up there too from time to time but I believe, as usual, it's the pilot that will determine the winning, not the canopy. At this stage they're all good (and bad) in their own ways. IMO not ONE (and yes that includes the JVX) is far ahead of any of the others. Blues, Ian Performance Designs Factory Team
  17. I can only speak for myself, but while I find the Velo, XAOS, VX and JVX to be great performing canopies in their own ways. The major syncher for me is customer support and product backing. There is no question in my mind who is head and shoulders above the competitors in that regard and a major reason why I chose, and recommend Performance Designs products. In the end it's mostl likely how the pilot balances: 1) Perceived performance. 2) Flight Characteristics 3) Price 4) Support Everyone has different criteria for the above of course
  18. I highly recommend any aspiring pilots in the area compete in this. It's a great learning environment and going to the finals finding yourself surrounded from the best amateur pilots in the US is a great place to learn even more. Blues, Ian Performance Designs Factory Team
  19. That explains it. I refuse to install Real Player on any of my machines. I'll rather not see the vid
  20. I cant get the video to play Performance Designs Factory Team
  21. Some Performance Designs prototypes had those. You can still see some out there. Blues, Ian Performance Designs Factory Team
  22. Mark, that's a great piece of advice. You can learn an incredible amount by just watching (and asking about runs). Blues, Ian Performance Designs Factory Team
