in the book of Lummy I've always been the kind of person who learned things the hard way. There are numerous reasons why that is so, but the driving factor in my opinion was that I needed to see, feel and experience things for myself before I would accept things as fact. There was never much guidance when I was growing up, and if anything, I was the guidance for my two younger sisters. Being so knowledgeable about everything, after all. I had it all figured out, this little long haired punk hopped on a Greyhound bus 2 weeks before my 18th birthday and left what little family I had in New Jersey to be with my girlfriend in Las Vegas. Three months later, I was faced with an ultimatum from the Mom in law, Marry the daughter, or move out on my own. Marriage didn't seem like that big of a deal at the time, I figured what is the worst that can happen? You can always get a divorce, right? the hard way By the time, I was 20, my wife was pregnant with her second son. By the time I was 21, Everything that I had worked for and gained over the last few years was gone. The wife left in the middle of the night, the rent for the house that we worked so hard to get into couldn't be paid, ALL the belongings were stacked outside for Goodwill and I was fired from my job soon afterwards. After a 3 month binge, I pulled my head out of my ass, and worked for a ride up to SF where I started life over. With the help of some good friends and a lot of determination, I pulled my self up and out of the abyss. A while later, I met another gal, had two more children, and ended up staying with her for 10 years. Unfortunately, even thou I had vowed not to make the same mistakes, I couldn't keep the marriage together. Still insistent on not making the same mistakes, I never gave up on my two youngest and wouldn't stop until they were where they belonged, safe and sound with their Dad. (another chapter ) That was four years ago. I've learned many more lessons over the last four years, but the most important one is that I need to love myself before I can be with someone else. I've also learned that I don't need to be in a relationship and would rather be alone than settle for something that is JUST comfortable..... Where am I going with this? My oldest son came home last night after being gone for 13 years. The scary thing is that I see sooo much of his father in him, and having been there, I refuse to let him follow my footsteps. The nice part is that at this moment, I feel ike this is the most "together" my life has ever been. So begins the next chapter, here I go, turn the page I promise not to TP Davis under canopy.. Nope... wasn't me... Believe it or nit, my Blazer has a governor that keeps it from hitting a hundred. I was keeping it pinned at 85 with the occasional 90-95 to pass mohrons... Uhmmm.... Couldn't tell ya Miche. See I was sitting behind the pilot and all I know is that Matt and TOM were just laughing their butts off most of the ride up. Everytime I asked "What?" They told me to never mind. It is a very homey and realxing DZ, nice staff and great atmosphere!!! I promise not to TP Davis under canopy.. Oh NO SH*T!!! I look at my altimeter after we take off and it's still at ZERO. I'm thinking ooookay, so I wait a few more minutes and look again, it's STILL at zero, so nknow I'm worried. I look over at Matt and motion to my altimeter and he shows me his and HIS is on zero too... I still think I coulda have flown the airplane is I had grabbed the exposed tension wires up on top ;) Front flipping off the step and laying back to watch Matt exit was so sweet.. And let's not forget seeing the rainbow. My last jump, Nathan and I pulled outta the tube jump since 12 was to many for the tailgate. We're out at about 9 grand in asit andI look over and there is a giant rainbow maybe about 10 miles from me to the east reaching up and over the mountain range (sleeping indian as per Miche) If only I hada camera ;( Oh, and no probs Scoby. Okay, Okay.... Before we start a mini OUR DZ is better than THAT DZ war, the original plan was to stop in Madera to jump but found out they are only open on the weekends. I then remembered seeing Cal city listed as being 90 miles N of LA so I called them (gotta love 411) who were done for the day, BUT they gave me the names of AirAdventures and Skydive Taft.. Well, Skydiove Taft was very friendly when we called and we re still jumping and AirAdventures didn't have a pilot on Friday. Next trip we'll hit the OTHER places, ok? OOps... 60 was the average # of minutes that I late/later than everyone else..... 60:13: too many to count.... My weekend started Wed nite with a sunset load at Davis. Picked up Matt and TOM (The Other Matt) Friday at Byron and we did a 3 way out of the King air, Matt falls like a ROCK BTW :) Stopped for lunch in the middle of East Bum Fuck only to find that they would NOT serve us beer, can you beleive it? They wouldn't let us buy it from their convenience store and drink it either... MATT was secretly happy about that for some reason. It actually worked out well because called Taft Skydiving and found out that we were only 40 minutes from them. SO, we visited the coolest little Cessna DZ I've been to yet. We hung out and BS'ed with Dave and Corky for awhile then went up on the longest weridest flight to altitude I've ever been on. The best part was being picked up after landing by a converted hearse.. Back on the road, we stopped at Miche's and went right to LAX to get Nate and got into Perris around 11:30 that nite to meet Seb, da BYTCH, and Betsy's crew.... Made 6 jumps on Sat and 4 on Sunday, pretty much ALL zoo loads but fun as hell... The best ones being the 5 way shuttlecock that we held til about 8 grand, the 6 way greased safe that was all over the place and the first Hybrid which went off perfectly until I didn't get my legs down and we ended up flipping... Met a bunch of great people and had a great time... I didn't really get a chance to spend a lot of time with everyone but it was wonderful meeting all of ya.... Huh.. don't remember that one either, must've been the Hybrid.
