So I need 300 African Swallows? @Heavydud...I'm using double F thread, it has a 22lb break strength. Tied 5' line to each handle. Two bags(4 lines) tied to one 12' line. This equals 75 lines to each riser side. I just hope the weather cooperates for Friday afternoon. BS Irony: "the History and Trivia section hijacked by the D.B. Cooper thread"

Does anyone see the error in the Mirage ad just inside the front cover of the new Parachutist? And it doesn't have anything to do with the panties. It is amazing me that someone in charge of advertizing let that get by. Irony: "the History and Trivia section hijacked by the D.B. Cooper thread"

Have any of you gone through this?

Think about what the S/L's are for. They are giving you time to demonstrate that you can do a DRCP. Why? Because once you leave S/L you better be able to pull your ripcord or wait for the AAD. Try to concentrate on the DRCP. If you are thinking about that you shouldn't get overload. To help this just sit in the mockup for as long as it takes to make it second nature. Remember, even if you go head down or back to earth you gotta pull that ripcord. Just so you'll know, I've put out between 5 and 6 thousand s/l's and this is very common. I recall it being the "Ghoulidge crowd" headed by Ma Death. I don't remember her being one of the Snoots team members. But I do remember her sitting in Mr. Douglas and starting the whole airplane to chant, "Death, Death, Death". As I recall she is the one with her son strapped to her in the Skies Call book. In one of the earlier threads that was mentioned by Airtwardo, I recall it being the "Ghoulidge crowd" headed by Ma Death. I don't remember her being one of the Snoots team. But I do remember her sitting in Mr. Douglas and starting the whole airplane to chant, "Death, Death, Death". As I recall she is the one with her son strapped to her in the Skies Call book. I think he was 7 in the picture. Irony: "the History and Trivia section hijacked by the D.B. Cooper thread"

Poor Tracking Skills in Europe ??

Hey Kevin did you get your answer. I had trouble muddling through all the snide remarks and attitude. Apparently it was SIMPLY...coincidence. Great discussion, thanks. BS Irony: "the History and Trivia section hijacked by the D.B. Cooper thread" -
Poor Tracking Skills in Europe ??
rdufokker replied to kkeenan's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Does this happen every weekend in the UK and Italy? When was the last time it happened? You do know that the UK and Italy are two separate countries with different cultures, different languages and separated by a few miles? Coincidence...yes. You asked two questions and then gave a geography lesson. Your definition of clarity is answering questions with questions. Irony: "the History and Trivia section hijacked by the D.B. Poor Tracking Skills in Europe ??
rdufokker replied to kkeenan's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I think he is looking for discussion on different techniques oversees. Like do some pull in place and others stagger openings with less emphasis on tracking techniques. I have not jumped oversees so can't compare. So Timmyfitz, if you have jumped in different areas of the world please enlighten with contrast or comparison, and enough of the 2nd grade geography. Yeah, I had a strato star but I only weighed 130 lbs. I also docked on a PC with that 5 cell, more like flew by and grabbed the pc from the side. It was ugly, but that was the fun we had back in the day. At the 1981 collegiates in a practice jump I flipped upside down in the risers so i was coming down on my belly. Got a dead center with my hand!! I loved that Strato Star. Irony: "the History and Trivia section hijacked by the D.B. Cooper thread"

About 30 some odd years ago at Bill Booths house there was an interesting discussion about things you could use as parachutes. Bill wanted to use the plastic grocery bags with light string tied to each bag handle. I don't think it was ever done. So was it done and if not what are the strangest things (actual) that have been jumped. (with pics)? I've started saving grocery bags. should have enough by the end of summer. But the speed of sound at around 100K with a standard temp of -70F is 660mph and at 120K where the temperature should actually be higher at around -40F is 684mph. So when he leaves the balloon and falls 30 sec. he should actually be falling into cooler air and the speed of sound decreasing. 660mph is 966 ft/sec. 30 seconds of freefall with no drag is 960 ft/sec. We should start a poll. At what time does he hit his highest Mach speed? My guess is 32 seconds. Burke Irony: "the History and Trivia section hijacked by the D.B. Cooper thread"

The problem with these charts is that they are based on standard adiabatic lapse rates in each region, i.e. 59F or 15C at sea level, and a loss of some standard amount (I think 1.7C per thousand) up to the Tropopause. The speed of sound at the earths surface is very different at 32F than it is at 100F. In fact the speed of sound at 32F is 741mph and at 100F is 790mph. Kevin Keenan are you out there? You can help!!! Burke Irony: "the History and Trivia section hijacked by the D.B. Cooper thread"

The speed of sound is not related to altitude or air density at all. It is only affected by temperature. This is why he will be able to break the sound barrier. I'm sure there are some Aeronautical Engineers on here that will give the equations and explanations in further detail. Burke Irony: "the History and Trivia section hijacked by the D.B. Cooper thread"
