  1. In any system you will have two different cutaway handles, so what would preclude someone from pulling the wrong handle in ANY system. The point is, the intentional cutaway main is attached to your actual main risers so that if you pull the wrong cutaway handle, you deploy your actual main as normal and both intentional and actual main go away. Also, now there is a costume involved in the death of a well known jumper using this system. How about any problems with a straight forward system, planned and executed, and then something unforeseen happens, please post as this would be apples to apples, and I would like to have info like that. 2. This sounds like someone that shouldn't have done an intentional cutaway, and hadn't prepared well enough before the jump. I've done 45 intentional cutaways +/- , and 30 years ago I did them with the belly wart and using my reserve as my 2nd main. I've also used the new system with main rings attached to my main risers with a cutaway handle on my chest strap. I would say this system is the safest "I've" used. 3. 1977 30 jump course: $300 then all I had to pay was plane ride @ $1.00 to 3500' $2.50 to 7500' First rig in 1978, a Sierra with slightly used Strato-Star and 24' w/4 line release. $600. Within a week I put belly pouch hand deploy and one shots. BS Irony: "the History and Trivia section hijacked by the D.B. Cooper thread"
  4. Please elaborate, as I have used the attachment to my main risers. Only on direct deployment, but I find this the least likely to interfere with the normal deployment after cutaway. Irony: "the History and Trivia section hijacked by the D.B. Cooper thread"
  5. Hey John, there was an old movie, I think came out in late 70's early eighties that had a hang glider launch from El Cap and two jumpers and a pilot. the two jumpers released together. I can't remember the name of the movie. Irony: "the History and Trivia section hijacked by the D.B. Cooper thread"
  6. Didn't Bill Booth's daughter do a tandem at 17? It seems she was a few days from 18, but in legaleze that's still 17. also, couldn't the local prosecutor file an endangering a minor charge against the parent if something went wrong, or even if it didn't go wrong? 7. What was kinda interesting on the test drops was that the bags left a 6" or so gap around themselves. They opened very uniformly and once I got the weight to bag ratio acceptable, they all spread apart. Apparently they self adjust and keep a small gap between them to spill air out. So no bag really touched another bag. It also had the effect, I think, of giving a larger sq. ft. area. Bruno Irony: "the History and Trivia section hijacked by the D.B. Cooper thread"
  8. I did 50 bags with 20 lbs suspended and it hit the ground at a survivable speed. This was from a 100' building. 400 bags with my suspended weight of 165 should be close. As for when the next jump is, I am just about done with the rigging of 400 bags but because I am going to try and make this into a charity fund raiser at the Lake, it is probably going to be in mid/late May. You never know, I may get a wild hair and throw on a wetsuit and just do it. BS Irony: "the History and Trivia section hijacked by the D.B. Cooper thread"
  9. Yes we found the cut away bags. So, I have finished the first line attachments to 400 bags and will start attaching to risers next week. I've decided not to rush the next jump as I want better video and photography. I will be landing in a lake(lake Norman) so its been kind of a pain in the ass trying to work out the logistics. The area lies underneath Class B airspace so no higher than 3500' exit. So it will be lots of quick decisions. I am also trying to figure out how to make this benefit a charity in the area. But not many organizations want to touch it. More than likely it will be next May. Bruno Irony: "the History and Trivia section hijacked by the D.B. Cooper thread"
  10. So how do we see the full show, in US? Irony: "the History and Trivia section hijacked by the D.B. Cooper thread"
  11. This moderator started the D.B. Cooper post to begin with. So he can start a post and we cant say anything about his post because he is the moderator. That's chicken shit. BS Irony: "the History and Trivia section hijacked by the D.B. Cooper thread"
  12. Did you read the original post, apparently there were more than a few that agreed with me. As for how many clicks it takes to get in and out of a section, not long if you have fast connections but some of our slow connections take more than a few seconds. BS Irony: "the History and Trivia section hijacked by the D.B. Cooper thread"
  13. For you guys that only read the first couple of words and then OVER-REACT. I asked if D.B. Cooper could have it's OWN section. I thought it was clear in my first attempt that what is a "WASTE OF TIME" is to look at the "Skydiving History and Trivia" section, and to the right, it will have a number that shows the new posts. IT DOESN'T SAY IF THE NEW POSTS ARE ONLY ON D.B.COOPER. So now you open it up because there might be something new on an INTERESTING SUBJECT, only to find that D.B. Cooper has ALL the new posts. I'm sorry Quade if this hursts your feelings, not getting all giddy over DB and all, but I seriously thought it might be an ego booster for D.B. Cooper to have its own section. Now it seems like the logical thing is for DB to have it's own section, but apparently a moderator wants us to be forced to see that DB is at the top of the History and Trivia section.......WOW!!! suck one! BS Irony: "the History and Trivia section hijacked by the D.B. Cooper thread"
  14. Could the managers of this site please give D.B. Cooper it's own section. When I look at the overall headings and it shows 45 new posts, only to click on Skydiving history and find that they all are under D.B. Cooper, it's a waste of time. Not to mention that the thread has evolved into "nothing to do with Cooper". Lock it or move it to it's own section PLEASE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 15. So the guy has some insight from a rather hands on point of view, and grammar/presentation is picked apart. Talk about "can't see the forest for the trees". How about someone comment positively/negatively on the merits of what he wrote in the original post. Was the OP incorrect? True, he should not have lumped Stratostar in just because of the signature line. Irony: "the History and Trivia section hijacked by the D.B. Cooper thread"
  16. Well here is the video, it's a bit amateurish but my first attempt. Next jump attempt in about a month. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6VhYtG18j2M BS Irony: "the History and Trivia section hijacked by the D.B. Cooper thread"
  17. Sorry about some of the jerks on the thread. So, welcome to the sport. Enthusiasm, is always greeted with grumpy dudes. I don't know where the attack over the motorcycle reference came from. I understand perfectly what you were referring to. Parachutist mag sucks when it comes to some type of gear comparison. Unlike scuba, motorcycle, golf magazines, etc, etc, parachutist cowers when it thinks it has to possibly bring attention to the bad aspects of one of its ad customers. A huge irritation to me is that Parachutist doesn't have any type of yearly gear comparison. So then you have to rely on forums to get your answers. Maybe your question should have been more specific. Something that other posts didn't address. Sometimes you get a response that you should have done more research, when in fact the last series of posts were a year ago. Gear changes every year, more data becomes available for things such as Skyhook, what was true last year might not be true today. Anyway too bad you have to rely on forums for your answers, even mine. BS Irony: "the History and Trivia section hijacked by the D.B. Cooper thread"
  18. Already planning on 400 bags next month, and possibly landing it. Question I have for all the riggers/engineers: Should I have 5 foot lines off each bag handle going to a 15' line to rapide link or 15' line off each handle coming down to a 5' line to the link. It's which will tangle least? BS Irony: "the History and Trivia section hijacked by the D.B. Cooper thread"
  19. here are a few pics. Irony: "the History and Trivia section hijacked by the D.B. Cooper thread"
  20. Sorry, after re-reading, seemed like I jumped on you, meant it to be a little more light hearted. I'm old. But we have resolved a lot of the problems and will try again in a month. It seems to stress my wife out when we're trying to sell the house and have grocery bags with string hanging all around the living room. Women! go figure!! Also, the reason you don't see rigger in my profile is that I haven't kept it up for over 25 years so don't consider myself up to date. BS Irony: "the History and Trivia section hijacked by the D.B. Cooper thread"
  21. Did you happen to see how long I've been jumping. I was a rigger over 30 years ago. I'm very familiar with rounds. The problem with my jump was a three ring fired and went up and knotted a lot of the bags. The ones that opened had no problem with lines breaking or bags busting. But we were'nt sure how fast many small parachutes would open vs. one big round. We will try this again soon. Irony: "the History and Trivia section hijacked by the D.B. Cooper thread"
  22. So the video will be up in a few days, but the short of it is one riser let go and the bags on the good riser worked very well. Only 2 bags blew off, so the thread and bags seem to be strong enough. The packing technique is the problem, but I have another idea. So, give me a month and will try it again. As far as the poll went, it partially opened and I hauled ass toward Earth. But it was fun. BS Irony: "the History and Trivia section hijacked by the D.B. Cooper thread"

  24. Damn wind has Friday out, so unless there is an earthquake, it will be a Sunday 7am jump. sorry to keep everyone waiting. BS Irony: "the History and Trivia section hijacked by the D.B. Cooper thread"
  25. I'm making the jump this Friday around 5:30pm near the Monroe, NC airport (EQY). As long as the winds and clouds allow it, come on out. Irony: "the History and Trivia section hijacked by the D.B. Cooper thread"
