In the 1880's the New Madrid fault moved and the Mississippi river changed it's course as a result. In the 1970's there was a very noticible quake, not sure of the numbers, but I watched my aquarium move and wondered if the water was gonna stay in it. (It did) The quake we had the other evening was a 4.5 so there was some serious moving, which I slept thru. One of my clients told me that she thought a large animal had gotten under her bed and was moving it. They say we are up for a pretty good one here. Ok, let me answer this from a whuffo status. Yup, that's me WHUFFO. Only I know whuffo. I have been doing the WFFC every year since 1997. Talked my hubby into learning to skydive (yea, that was hard...) he started jumping for real in 2003. I have spent more hours at the WFFC than everyone here who responded so far, put together. Spent ONE HUNDRED DAYS working on it in 2001, looking for a new home for us. I will spend about 30 to 35 days this year. Some whuffos get it. Maybe yours is one of them. If so, bring her to me, I need LOTS AND LOTS of help. It takes about 180 to 300 volunteers per event to put this on. That's one of the main reasons that no one else does it. I will continue to take my vacation to work at the Convention every year for as long as Don will have me. There is nothing like it, but I am a 'free spirit- flower child' and don't get squeemish when a naked person asks me for directions, or throws her arms around my husband. If he gets to cop a feel, all the better! I like to see him have a good time, and I know that he ALWAYS will at the Convention. Use some judgement. Is she that open? If so BRING HER! 50lbs? Fuck 50lbs! It should be atleast 100lbs! I can carry 80. Had to move 30 bags of concrete mix, 80lbs each. The guy who works with me wimped out. Windwatcher, first thing you gotta do is GET INTO THE CONVENTION. With fewer than fifty jumps there are only two ways to do this. ONE, register as a 'student' skydiver and pay the cost of the student entry. You will get a 'student' band, and be allowed to jump with the instructors til you get to your 50 mark. TWO, register as a 'friend of a skydiver' (which means you gotta have somebody you KNOW when you register) This will NOT give you a 'skydiving' wrist band and you will NOT be allowed to jump. I would suggest that if you are going to use this method, you either arrive with a skydiver, or have a cell phone number on hand, so that you can call someone on the grounds to come and vouch for you. I have seen long delays at registration when people show up at registration and don't know the drill. YES< VOLUNTEER! We need people to greet people in registration, help sign up people in the tandem area, I am in the PR area, and use lots of skydivers for carting around media types. We have shuttles taking skydivers from out landings, and the tandem area back to the manifest and packing areas. We need people to help shuttle folks to the showers! I delivered two cheapy swimming pool floats to Rantoul on Sat. Figured the kids can use them for swimming while we are setting up, and then the skydivers can have for free at registration, if anyone wants them. ok so im a woss i ran to my basement get over it When I was a little kid, my great aunts house was hit, and her barn was leveled. It made quite an impression. I have seen 3 in real life, but I have seen the devastation from several more, including what was left of Xenia, Ohio in 1974.
